Hakuna Matata - April...and we're not foolin' around!

Kim: I completely agree. I just can't keep up with these avid posters!;)

Vicky: Glad you were able to fix your frosting. That's where your expertise comes in. I can't figure out how to fix things when they head south. Hope you're able to get your runs in without pain. I had my first pain free run in a couple of weeks today and it was nice.

Eva: So happy to hear you're on the mend. I hope the pups and Gage can behave long enough for you to heal. ;)

Rick: You're doing so awesome with upping your mileage and lowering your running times! Great job! :thumbsup2 The metronome sounds interesting. I bet you could also find something to download onto an Ipod that had that.

Kimberley: Great job getting your motivation back. I hope everything works out for you and you're able to go in January, but if not, maybe the next year. I know it stinks though, cause I couldn't go this year and I hated it. ;)

Robbie: For marathon weekend last year (2011), I arrived on Wednesday, did parks Thursday with side trip to expo (only spent an hour there), all day Friday, Saturday from noon to close after the half, Sunday from about noon or 1 until 6 or 7, Monday all day and half day on Tuesday since we left that evening. I ended up getting a package because it was free dining, but wouldn't do that again. I just can't eat that much dessert and I like to eat a little bit many times throughout the day. So, next time, we'd get park hoppers through Undercover Tourist, unless Vicky finds that link to those cheap tickets again.

Dave: Great job! :thumbsup2

AFM: Harrison is healed! He's doing great and has his first baseball practice this Thursday, so it's a good thing. He pitched last night in the back yard, and you can tell he's regressed without practice.

My sciatic nerve still hurts, but not like it did. I did a 2 mile run this morning after walking 7, and it was fast. I managed 7:20 miles. Of course, it's just getting harder and harder because of the heat. It's going to be 90 today, and it was too hot to run by 8 this morning. Of course, 65 is too hot for me, so I'm stuck until October. I'm heading to zumba tonight after taking a week off and then getting home for the game. Go Hawks!

I haven't heard anything yet about the nursing program. I still have 2 weeks so who knows. I have an interview for my scholarship tomorrow. It's supposed to be a formality, so basically, it's mine to lose. Everything else is going well.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Hi Team!

Vicky- No pranks for us! How about you? Glad you had mostly pain free runs this past weekend! I hope your workout with the chiro goes well!

Dave- Congrats on the weight loss and your race over the weekend.

Rick- Congrats on your awesome run last week! That’s great and you are super fast! Glad your form class is going well. It sounds really interesting. Great job on your 10 mile run also!

Tandy- Yup, my ankle is fine. I had no issues with it after that run. April 15th?! Why so far away all of the sudden? That’s great Harrison is all healed! Hope Zumba goes well!

Mary- Congrats on the weight loss! That 5k definitely looks interesting!

RadioFanatic- Great job on the awesome run last Friday and getting your motivation going again! I hope it all works out so you can go to marathon weekend like you have been planning.

Eva- I’m glad the surgery went well!!! I don’t like pain pills either so I totally know how you feel. Keep us posted on your recovery!!

AFM, today is a rest day. Ran 8 miles yesterday and then did some core work after. I decided to take a cheat day on Saturday and it really did not go as well as I hoped. The pizza place we ordered pizza from took 60 minutes instead of the 30 minutes they had told us…then Safeway didn’t have the slice of cake that DH and I like and always get when we have a cheat day. So we ended up with a Red Velvet cake. I was starving by the time we got home with the pizza because we had to wait so long, so I might have had 1-2 pieces too many. Lucky for me my DH has a massive sweet tooth so he pretty much finished off the entire cake himself and gave me a small piece as requested, so I didn’t have to worry about overeating too much of the cake! I guess the next time I want a cheat day I will have to think twice about it!

Hope you all are off to a great start this week!

My goal this month is to try and keep up!!!

Regina: Sorry your cheat day didn't go as you expected but Red Velvet cake sounds yummy.

Tandy: Glad to hear that your siatic is on the mend that must be super painful.

No workout for me today, fighting the headache from h*** so just going to sit and read and go to bed early. Been up since 2AMish....just couldn't go back to sleep:scared:

Have a great day all

Kim

Hello all! I know I haven't been around much, work is keeping me busy and it's going to stay that way for awhile.

I took a trip to DC a couple weeks ago. I had a really good time. The cherry blossoms happened to be in bloom while I was there and it was very neat to see them.

I've been getting some short runs in now and then. I have a 5k this weekend. I know it won't be my fastest time, but it should be fun anyways.

It looks like several of you are getting in some good miles. WTG!

Eva - I hope you are feeling better post-surgery!

Have a great night!
Emily

Vicky - can you add these races to the calendar?

Thanks!
Emily

April 7 - Santa Anita Derby 5k
Sept 2 - DL Half

Rick - Congrats on your 34 miles this week! How are you finding walking vs. running. Oh yeah a pocket sized metronome makes sense. Not sure why I'm thinking you're carrying around a giant sized metronome with you  Does more footsteps mean that you're running faster or that your stride is shorter?

Walking is a different feel for sure. I find that I use more of my upper thigh muscles walking than I do running. It is easier on my knees too. Interesting that I burn almost as many calories walking as I do running (going the same distance) -- maybe that's because of spending longer time on your feet.

Actually, the cadence is supposed to stay the same regardless of your speed. What determines speed is your stride. She demonstrated this on a treadmill. She kept her cadence at 90 but could change her speed by adjusting her stride length. It was cool. The shorter the stride, the slower and visa versa. When we went on our run, she had us changing our speed while maintaining the cadence with the metronome. It definitely takes getting used to.

Good morning team.

Eva you are a tough lady!

Rick, walking actually uses more muscle groups than running and so burns more calories if your putting in a hard effort. A 10 min mile walking burns more calories than a 10 min mile running.

Tandy, hope that pesky nerve behaves.

Kim, no headaches allowed, a Princess gives headaches not gets headaches.

Vicky, a runner and a cupcake master, best of both worlds.

How's it going Mike?

Everyone have a magical day and stay out of trouble.

I'm off to the park for a fast walk through the cemeteries. About 4 miles should do it.

Dave:hippie:

Rick I agree with the thigh muscles. When Mike and I walked our half and fulls we would throw in a bit of jogging just to rest up the walking muscles.
I am anxious to do the switch from being a walker to a jogger/walker.

Funny when Mike and I do intervals my stride is longer then his so he works a bit harder than me to keep pace but he is in better shape then I am so easy for him.

Emily: Hi!!!! Good luck on your 5K this weekend.

Kim

Dave: I did not know that. I will have to ramp up the intensity of my walks! But 10:00/mm walking pace? Wow! I don't even know how to begin to get that speedy. My body would revert to running. :rotfl2: I hope your cemetery run was refreshing!

Hockeychic: I noticed that running does feel like a good break after walking a few miles. The running muscles didn't feel at all fatigued. Interesting....

AFM: I did speedwork this morning using the metronome to maintain a cadence of 90 (180 beats per minute). Ran intervals of 3x500m at 9:00/mm pace with 1-minute recovery runs at 10:30/mm pace. Added 5-minute easy runs at 10:00/mm pace between sets. Nice way to wake up and start the day with 4 miles in the books. Tonight is another Natural Running class. Looking forward to that. :goodvibes

Have a magical day!! :thumbsup2

Rick I see you registered for goofy!!!! Yeah!!!!

I just can't decide.

Kim

Maybe subconsiously (sp) I need someone to make the decision for me....grrrrrr I just wonder how long that code will stay open

Here's what's going to happen... If you register for the full, in January you're going to be saying "Why didn't I register for the Goofy?" If you register for the Goofy, in November/December, you're going to be saying "Why did I register for Goofy?"

Either way... you should at least do the full for the anniversary medal ;)

Oh the full is for sure that isn't a option it is just goofy or full?

You're going all the way to FL ... might as well throw in the half ;)

I am pumped...just signed up for my 1st Disney race: Goofy!
Hoping to have lots of Hakuna Matata representation that weekend!

You're going all the way to FL ... might as well throw in the half ;)

This was my thought. I knew I was going to run the Full in 2013. I also know how much it costs to make the trip to WDW. So for an extra early morning wake-up and $150, I should just do the Half as well. So if I am going to do both, save some money and register for Goofy with the discount.

So I say, Go For It! The sense of satisfaction when finishing both races will make it all worth it. And for being in the 1% of the world who have finished a Full Marathon, just think what percentage of that 1% have finished a Goofy. It makes the accomplishment even more unique and special!

Well I did it so you all don't have to listen to me anymore........drumroll please!!!!!

Going for my 2nd Goofy!!!!!!
