Hakuna Matada - Dashing through December!

Hi Team!

Finally checking in here again. I've caught up on everyone's postings so far and it sounds like everyone is doing great with their long runs and staying healthy! Great job everyone!
Lots going on here as chaos still reins in some areas of my life. Last week I only slept in shifts, and was up about 25 hours on Friday by the time we got back from seeing Rick and the Klingons. Great show! Got a really nice LSR done on Saturday with Rick and haven't run since...
The Christmas lights are up on the house, caught up on the laundry, paid the bills, cleaned house, volunteered at Robert's school and am now sitting down with a margarita. I had a cancer doc appointment today after a rough night at work. I was fasting for the blood work and only drinking water last night and for some reason developed horrible stomach pains. I've fasted plenty of times and don't really know what happened. I almost called Liz and told her to meet me at the local hospital. I was doubled over for awhile, and finally gave up on the fasting. It took a couple of hours for the pain to totally subside as the food digested but it worked. Uggg!
At the docs appt. I found out that one of my liver enzymes is elevated a little but the overall numbers look good. I have to go for a CT scan of my chest and abdomen next week to make sure the bloodtests are not missing anything. So, I'M A LITTLE STRESSED AT THE MOMENT...
On the positive side, Robert won a ride to school in our village D.A.R.E. police car. It's a really tricked out squad car for the program to talk to kids about drugs, alcohol, and gangs. I get to ride along! (on Friday)

I want you all to know that I may have just typed a bunch of stuff about myself, but I really do read all of your postings and find tons of inspiriation, smiles, motivation, and kindness going on between everyone here. Right now, I would really rather sit on couch feeling sorry for myself and finding something to binge eat, worrying about cancer, mine and a few others that I know. Instead, knowing that you are all out there training, and that I will be doing the WDW races with a bunch of you, I will avoid that emotional trap, and get my butt moving.
I like the roller coasters at Disney, at least I know they have and ending...

Vicky, thanks for posting the waver link!

Vicky, thanks for the FB post about the Waiver Form! I printed my forms too!

HM: #36,593
5K: #1820

I also got the forms for my wife and son who are also doing the 5K! This is getting REAL now! I am so excited!

Is it possible to tell your corral based upon your Bib #? I was kinda hoping the Waiver Form would show the corral information...

Wait for people to start posting their bib numbers and the times they used when they registered. You'll get an idea of the corals from that. In past years for the half marathon, I have used a 2:10 time and one year was in coral B and another year I was in C. It all depends on how many people are registered for the race.

Mike: You are a great guy and someone that I am blessed to call a friend. You know if you need anything, I will be there. And while many of the people on this board are not close to you distance-wise, I am certain that they all are supporting you and behind you 100%. This is a great community and you are part of us.

Hang in there, my friend! Only positive thoughts! :thumbsup2

Is it me or is it getting harder and harder to get in to post something on WISH. I tried several times yesterday after work and couldn't get in.

I have a race #27362, for the Goofy, that makes it real.

Hi Team!

Dave- Awesome job training in the cold, misting rain, and snow flurries. I haven’t had any problems posting.

Kim- I am sorry for your loss.

Vicky- The arch feels ok. Thanks! I have also been reading some of the posts about Goofy and hitting the wall and find it a little concerning. I hope the weather stays nice for you! I don’t have anything on my list for Santa this year.

Mike- As always you are keeping busy! I’m sorry to hear you had trouble with stomach pains while fasting for your blood work. I’m glad you’re feeling better. Let us know how your CT scan goes. Hope the DARE ride along tomorrow is great! Hang in there Mike. We are thinking of you and hoping everything works out well for you and that you remain cancer free.

AFM, DH and I ran 3 miles this morning on the TM. I think I’m getting tired of all this training though. It’s getting to be a struggle to get some of these runs done and over with. I just keep telling myself 2 more weekends of long runs and then I get to taper! I hope everyone has a great day and your training is going well!

Hi team! Did everyone get their bib #s yesterday? I was so excited yesterday and it just makes everything feel like it is really around the corner! My bib # is 22,542. I'm not sure which coral that will put me in. I'm guessing maybe B or C since I've seen some other Goofy-ers with bib #s very close to 20,000. I've posted the team bib numbers to the first page but if you're not comfortable sharing your number, don't feel you have to :)

Everyone who's Goofy - we're only getting one bib this year so make sure you take care of it during the half and don't throw it away on Saturday!

Dave - I had trouble yesterday too. It might have something to do with the migration of the boards. I'm not sure. Any training walks planned for today?

Rick - You won't know your official coral until you get to the expo and pick up your bib. Watch the thread on the boards where other people are posting their bib numbers. People will start guessing and you'll be able to get an idea of where you'll be. I saw your post on FB... even if you go back on Friday to exchange your shirt, make sure you go on Thursday morning if you want race souveniers.

Mike - What Rick said! And no worries about posting about yourself! We want to know how you're doing too! Lots of pixiedust: and good thoughts for your upcoming tests! You keep me inspired too! All of your back to back races this year ... and you manage to do that all with an incredibly busy schedule! That's so awesome! And can I just say that I think you're more excited about the police car ride than Robert LOL

AFM - I'm going to the gym tonight, working out and then going to try and squeeze in a 3-4 miler on the TM. I'm going to ask my trainer for a list of stretching exercises I can take with me to Disney and then I'll share them with everyone. I hate stretching but am resigned to the fact that I'll have to do them myself since I can't bring him with me.

I was talking to someone at our work Christmas party last week about my trip. He goes to Disney too and we usually swap stories/tips etc. He asked where I was staying and I told him Pop Century. He looked at me funny and said "Pop? Are you going to make it?" I'm not that much of a princess sheesh!

Tonight, I'm trying out a recipe for tuile cookie. They're really thin cookies that are curved and usually used as garnishes on ice cream or mousse desserts. If mine work out, I'll post a picture. It has me a little nervous because you have to work with them right out of the oven. If the dough cools down too much and you try to fold them, they'll crumble. I'm a little sensitive after burning my hand last month

This weekend is a cutback weekend - a 12 and a 6 miler. I'm going for a haircut on Saturday so I'll be doing my 12 on Sunday and hopefully the 6 at the gym after my fitness assessment. I've been trying to keep my eating clean this week but I did sneak a peppermint hot chocolate from Starbucks yesterday (it was a non fat and half sweet - so good!)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Regina - I think we were posting at the same time! I am tired of the training too! It's hard going to sleep early on the weekends when everyone else is going out etc. But I'm doing the same and I keep telling myself it's just two more weeks. I am so looking forward to tapering too!

Good job on the 3 miler! I think early morning is the best time to get them out of the way! How's DH feeling about Goofy?

Vicky, that's why I don't do very much distance work. My workout schedule takes nothing from the rest of my life. My theory, proved many times that if your in overall good condition then doing an occasional half or full marathon is fine without having to do workouts that last for hours.

Mon: 5 miles of speed intervals and recovery laps
Tues: 4 to 5 mile time trial various routes
Wed: 6.5 mile group training walk, tempo paced (sometimes 9.5 miles)
Thurs: Rest
Fri: Various distances, hard effort (4 to 8 miles)
Sat: 3 to 4 miles easy
Sun: 3 to 4 miles easy

That is pretty much my schedule each week. That works for me and the last half I did in Sept I had a PR.

So today is rest and work.

Yes Mike, we are as Rick said concerned.

Rick, what pace are you planning for that first half?

Dave:hippie:

Dave: I have been doing my Long Runs at 11:00 pace. I ran my last 15K race at 10:24 pace. So I was thinking of running the Half at 11:00 pace for the first 5K to warm-up and then slowly increase to 10:30 or better for the remainder of the race.

My goal finish time is between 2:20 and 2:30. My push goal is 2:10 but as long as I finish by 2:30, I will be more than satisfied.

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - I have issues with eating hard food (as opposed to gu’s and gel’s and sport beans), but I find it really necessary on longer walks and bike rides. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are popular rest stop food at bike rides. I have also made some home made energy bars which I will eat on bike rides. Scott likes eating Snickers bars.

Dave - Sorry your weather is so bad that you need to train in the mall, for us it is the basement. While I agree with you that you do not need to do distance training, I think it is good for those who have not done any or many distance races to prove to themselves that they CAN do the distance before the race, I know I felt better after I had done my longest distance training walk before a race.

Kim - Sorry to hear about your DSIL’s mother.

Tandy - Good luck on your finals.

Mike - Hope your tests come out good. Have fun in the DARE car. Try to get some sleep! :grouphug:'s and pixiedust:

Rick - Good job on the training! Pics were great!

Emily - Sorry to hear about DH’s cousin.

Regina - Good job on the 13 miles!

AFM - We are back from DL, had a great trip, saw some old friends and made some new friends! DL really dresses itself up for Christmas! We ate too much, I gained a few pounds. Now I really have to quit eating all the sugar! Got up this morning and ran out to pick up dogs at the kennel - we got in too late last night to pick them up. Snowing here this morning, wind is supposed to pick up later, should get dogs out for walk this morning.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Vicky, my trainer gave me a whole ton of leg and dynamic stretching for mobility in the hip flexors and IT bands, etc. I'll see if I can post those for ya since maybe it'll help you too (I'm loving some of them, and love/hating others lol).

I'm getting to the point where the doubts are starting to settle in. Can I do it, should I do it, will I do it... It's hard to remember the rush you feel when you actually do it when it was so long ago! But my parents will be there this time so I'm excited they'll see me finish. Well my Mom will, I bought her a ChEAR package for her birthday! :cheer2:

Mike: Lots of thoughts and wishes for you. I'm sure things will be much better than they might seem now.

Hi team.

Mike: I really hope everything comes out okay for you. You have been through so much. I'm sure the tests will come out just fine. Sorry you had such a hard time with the fasting. It sounds like your life is super crazy still. Try to take it a little easy if you can (I know, easier said than done).

Kim: I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

Vicky: Yes, I hit a big old wall in the full, around mile 21-22, or whenever it was that we had that big turnaround with the video screen. I was almost done at that point. Then, we saw Galloway pass us. ;) I didn't hit any kind of wall in the half. My only issue there was that my hip felt like it was out of the socket. You'll do great, I'm sure. You're more prepared this year than last. You are mentally ready because you know you've done a full. I just tried last year to separate the two races. I can run a half marathon. I can run a full marathon. (Just don't tell yourself that they're back to back). ;)

Regina: Yes, just 2 more weeks. It will end soon, I promise. :thumbsup2

Lynn: I'm glad you had such a good time. I have never been to DL. I can imagine the decorations were beautiful though.

Rick: It's wonderful that your wife and son are doing the 5k. I wish I could get my hubby to run. Harrison wants to run the half with me as soon as he's old enough.

AFM: I have had a rough 2 days. I had to take Frank to the emergency room Wednesday morning. He had atrial fibrillation. Basically his electronics in his heart went nuts, and his atrium (top part of the heart) had a HR of 300 (200 above normal). His ventricle (bottom of heart), was working super hard to try to keep up, because the rates among the 4 chambers are supposed to be the same. He was a mess. They got him stable and managed to get his heart working normally. He was released last night. He's now got to watch out for this to happen again. If it does, they'll get him stable again, but put him on a lifetime medication to try to prevent it. So, so much for studying and running right now. :) I'm just so happy that he's home and okay. It was a little scary for me. I keep telling him that his unhealthy lifestyle is going to kill him, but I didn't mean for it to. ;) Actually, this is one of the few heart conditions that aren't affected by lifestyle, just a fluke (unless he was an alcoholic, which he's not).

So, I'm hoping, now that he's home, to get out for a nice run today. I'm behind on my schedule, but I figure a few days of no running won't be that big a deal.

Oh, I forgot to add, I'm so excited for all of you guys heading down next month. Once bib #s come out, it's so real. I'm hoping you will all represent, since I can't make it this year. ;)

Good Morning Team!

Tandy - Pixie Dust for Frank (and you - that must have been very scary)!

Saylan - You will do just fine! We all question why we signed up for a race just before the race, but the excitement of race day overcomes it.

AFM - Got out for dog walk yesterday, and did keep my eating better than it has been. Then I got caught up with wrapping Christmas presents and did not get on the spin bike. Yesterday was actually a very nice day, and we probably would have gotten out on bikes if Scott were not suffering with a cold (the same one he had, seemed to have left, but now has hit him hard again)

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Friday everyone! It's snowing today! :scared1: Lots of big flakes but it doesn't look like anything's sticking. I hope it clears up by rush hour otherwise traffic will be a nightmare.

Lynn - I love wrapping presents! Do you get stuff for your pups too? Hope Scott is feeling better soon! I hadn't thought of Snickers before. I knew I should have stocked up on Halloween candy in November! LOL

Tandy - OMG! I hope everything is okay! Do the doctors know how it happened? Was there a trigger like a cold or an allergy? I wouldn't be focused on much either. I'm glad that Frank's home! Make sure you guys are taking things easy.

Saylan - You will do fine! The thing I love about Disney races is that there's so much going on around you, it never feels quite like 13.1 or 26.2 miles. You're running with DBF? Is the CHEAR package a surprise for your mom or does she know about it already? Definitely post the list of stretches if you can :)

Mike - How was the ride in the police car? How are you doing today :)

Dave - I'm kind of at the point now where I can do a half distance without too much training and feel okay afterward. I'd definitely need to do the speedwork for a PB. I do like your training schedule and I'm going to look into incorporating some tempo and speedwork back in next year. Is Sally looking forward to January? Is she doing any of the races?

AFM - I'm down another two pounds! Yay! Unfortunately, I stalled last week and didn't have a loss so it equals out to 1 lb/week. Slowly but surely I'm getting there  I'm getting myself a workout jacket as a reward. I'm getting it now because I'm almost positive that it will be sold out if I wait until after Christmas. If I don't make my goal, I'll return it. Kind of like buying stuff at the marathon expo LOL

Last night I went to the gym and worked out with my trainer. The first thing he said when he saw me was "Hey! You're looking lean and mean!" I thought that was a nice compliment. We did a lot of leg work and plyo stuff. I watched one of the other trainers do ladder exercises. He was going so fast, it made me dizzy!

Last night I made my tuile cookies and they came out pretty good! I shaped them into fortune cookies and they looked cute! I also spiced them with ginger so they wouldn't taste like the cookies you get from restaurants. The problem was that the papers absorbed the grease from the cookies and turned see through. My baking instructor suggested I could use less butter but then they wouldn't be as easy to shape. I'll have to work on them some more.

Tomorrow is my fitness reassessment which means I still have to be good for one more day :cutie: I'm meeting someone I've worked with for a few years for the first time today. I've only ever talked to her on the phone. She missed our team Christmas lunch last week so I suggested we go this week and meet up. Should be fun!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Good Afternoon Team!

Work has kicked into highgear, again. No time for posting.

Tandy, PD to you and Frank. His ordeal sounded very scary.

Mike, How was the ride? Who had more fun Robert or you?

Vicky, The commute home tonight should be good. It's seems we have avoided the snow. You should have snowless roads/sidewalks for your weekend long run.

Lynn, Do you do any Christmas baking? or Does Scott?

Kim, Sorry to hear about your SIL's mother.

Have a great weekend everyone.........Sue

Rick - You won't know your official coral until you get to the expo and pick up your bib. Watch the thread on the boards where other people are posting their bib numbers. People will start guessing and you'll be able to get an idea of where you'll be. I saw your post on FB... even if you go back on Friday to exchange your shirt, make sure you go on Thursday morning if you want race souveniers.

It looks like there will be several WISHers in my corral for the Half (whichever that corral will end up being). That is encouraging! Do we all wear our WISH racing shirts to WDW so we can find one another?

I sent an email to trackshack.com the other day and I got a response, saying that there will be a t-shirt exchange area at the Expo so I can bring my shirt there to get the smaller size. Yay!

I will take your advice and be there on Thursday so I can pick up some good stuff at the Expo. Much to the chagrin of my budget, which would prefer I get my race packet and leave immediately! :rotfl:

I'm off work today so I waited till the temperture made it to 35 degrees and drive to the track. I did 2 brisk miles and then race walked 3 miles. My 'get after it' walking pace is still 11:20 per mile, I need to be smooching around the sub 11 min per mile pace soon, hopefully, maybe after the Goofy is over I can concentrate on more speed work.

Yesterday I ordered a couple on packable windbreaker jackets from Cabelas had for 15 bucks a piece and I was going to show Sally what our new jackets would look like and they were already off the website, guess I got them just in time. They have a mesh linning, zipper pockets and a hood that zips into the collar. Of course they are black.

I'm watching the news as I write this and they had a story about a guy who was shop lifting in a store and they caught him, there were 50 police officers also in the store for the "Shop with a cop" event for under priviliaged children. That was like dinner and a show for the kids.:thumbsup2

I'm making supper for Sally tonight since she is working and I'm off. I got a rotissery turkey breast, crandberry sauce with the whole berries, asperagus, mashed potatoes and a fruit and nut bread.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Rick - Try to meet up with some of those WISHers on Friday at the Pop meet so you'll remember their faces for Saturday morning. It's pretty dark at the start of the race. Wearing the WISH shirt definitely makes it easier to identify yourself :) Make sure you do a test run in it before wearing it for the race just to make sure it's comfortable.

If it makes you feel any better ... I didn't like most of the race merchandise from 2011. So I only ended up getting the "I did it!" shirt :)

Dave - That's hilarious! Why would that guy shoplift with a bunch of police officers around? Good lesson for the kiddos I think! That's a great deal on the windbreakers!

Sue - Work has been pretty quiet over on my side. Seems like some people are leaving for Christmas early!
