Hakuna Matada - Chilly November

Yikes sorry gang been a crazy busy week. I will really try to catch up this weekend.

Hope you are all doing great!!!!

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Good luck on the 16 miler! We do not “put up” bikes, they live in garage - they have their own space (the space of a car) - we have enough nice days in winter here that it is possible to get out all year - we usually get 1 - 2 days of plus 50 degree weather a month that we use to water the trees and get in a bike ride.

Dave - Glad you enjoyed your rest day!

Mike - Good luck on your race! (Is there a weekend when you are NOT racing?)

Tandy - Good luck with the herd this weekend! Happy Birthday to Harrison!

Sue - Yes, we saw Mary Poppins a while ago - loved it!

AFM - The wind died down yesterday afternoon, so we jumped on the bikes - did not go far - 5.8 miles in about 25 min. - but it was faster than our last trip out. The dogs also got their walk in. Today is supposed to be warm - 55 degrees - but very windy - 30-45 mph - but we will see if there is a break to get out again.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi team. I'm hiding in my room with the laptop. :laughing:I'm supposed to be studying, but I need a break.

Lynn: Glad you had a good time at Fiddler. How was the concert last night? Great job getting your bike ride in. Hope you can get out and enjoy the nice weather.

Dave: Breaks are so important. Sounds like a super busy weekend, as usual. I must like it a littler chillier than you because I wore shorts both days this year at Goofy. I was a little chilly when I started, but they were perfect for the races.

Kim: Sounds like life is crazy. It's always that way for me when I get back from vacation.

Vicky: I hope your run is great today. I dislike the whole running out and back and then doing it again, but I'm going to have to do that now too. If I have to run 30ish miles, I will need more water and food than I can carry, so I'll run half, go to my car, and then run half again. Yucky, but it gets the job done.

Sue: Great, now you've really got me wanting roasted squash! ;)

Regina: Nothing really planned, except the party. How about you? Any big plans?

Mike: Good luck this weekend!!!!!

Rick: My absolute favorite runs are while it's snowing, as long as it's at the beginning of the snow. We get some snow here, but we get a lot of ice. It's horrible to run during or after an ice storm.

Mary: Happy belated birthday!

AFM: I have no run scheduled today. Needed a break. We are going shopping, then to McDonalds (yuck) and then to the park today. I will only have 5 boys because 1 ended up with a soccer touney. Then, we have a campfire cookout this evening (6th boy will join us) and video game marathon tonight. Oh boy! Harrison and I are going for a 3 mile run tomorrow after the boys leave. He will fight me on this, but he was supposed to do it today, and I gave him a break. Plus, he's eaten so much junk food already, he needs it!

I am seriously putting off all my studying. I need to write a paper and have at least 6 hours of studying to do, but I just don't feel like it! Nothing happens until Tuesday, but I have a long run on Monday, plus lots of appointments, and the family is coming over tomorrow, so I don't know when I'm going to find time. Ugh!!!! I finally got my spring schedule worked out and am taking 15 credit hours, which I'm hoping is manageable. Then, hopefully, 2 online classes next summer (don't want to be tied down to classes in case I go to Europe). I am applying to the RN program Tuesday, but won't find out until April. If I get in, it starts in August. I ordered all my books yesterday for the spring semester. See, I'm stalling.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend.

Hi Team!

Lynn- LOL Hope the recovering from a busy week is going well! Even I would not be used to 3 nights out in a row! Nice you were able to get out on the bikes yesterday. Hope the wind dies down a bit for you today to get out.

Sue- I think labs are so much fun. They have great personalities. The air was a little colder yes. It was also raining and the weather over here has been so nice we haven’t run in the rain in awhile. I may not be taking deep enough breaths. We ran today and I tried to focus more on my breathing. That seemed to help.

Tandy- Hope Harrison’s birthday weekend goes well! I agree on the “Yuck” to McDonalds! Are they doing smores for the campfire cookout? Good luck getting your studying and paper done and finding the motivation for it! Glad your spring schedule is figured out.

Vicky- I hope your 16 mile run today went well. Which route did you decide on? It is very exciting you’re so close to 20 miles.

Dave- Good to hear your training is still going well.

AFM, DH and I ran 4 miles this morning. Aside from lacking the motivation to want to go out today, it was a good run. I started out slower than normal because my muscles still felt tight from my last long run. We also took Sydney with us today and she had a great time. The weather is still holding up over here and I am surprised. I keep waiting for the rain to kick in for the winter. We saw Immortals yesterday. We liked it well enough but did have a few storyline questions at the end of the movie. We are watching the BSU vs TCU football game and BSU is disappointing…hopefully they will pull it together in the 2nd half. Other than that we have an 8 mile run tomorrow, but no other plans.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

Good Sunday morning Team. Hope everyone is feeling strong and happy this morning. It's going to be warm and windy here today but it's a work day so I won't get to enjoy training in the wind, maybe tomorrow the wind will still be blowing. I like training in the wind it's like training with weights or hill training.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Dave - If you like training in the wind, come out and visit us!!!:lmao:

Regina - I am mainly dealing with lack of sleep after 3 late nights, because we still get up at the same time, even when we got to bed late. (that means 6am for me and 5am for Scott).

Tandy - When I was training for the one marathon I did, I did 2 laps of a very large circle, both because I needed to restock water and food, and the dogs decided after 1 lap that they were done, so I had to leave them home for the second (wimps). Good luck with your studying! How old is this group of boys?

AFM - Windy all day yesterday - 35-45 mph most of the time, so far, it is still windy this morning. Last night about 8pm, I looked outside and saw a blizzard - it did not last long, on only a dusting of new snow this morning. I never even got outside yesterday - we got involved with reading travel books on South Africa (Feb. trip). Last night we got an invite to DL and decided to make a last minute (for us) trip there. So we lied when we said we would be home for 2 months straight, and will be headed to DL for a few days the first week of Dec.:santa:

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Lynn I think the time change is affecting all of our body clocks. I don't have a lick of energy today and I think that has a lot to do with it. That and coming off vacation doesn't help either.

I like training in the wind but you guys don't have wind you guys have something else up there, some sort of freakish wind from from outer space or something.

Dave:hippie:

Hi team! Hope everyone is having a great weekend! We had some unseasonably warm temps so it was nice to be able to get out and run without a jacket. I even saw a few people running in shorts and tees but I'm not that brave LOL

Dave - I don't mind doing my shorter runs with some wind. It makes me push harder. I don't care for it as much on the longer runs because it just zaps my energy. I don't think I'd like running in the wind where Lynn and Scott are LOL

Lynn - A last minute trip to DL sounds like fun! Do they have a Christmas party like they do in WDW? You guys are racking up the FF miles though! Any interesting travel tidbits on South Africa? Glad to hear that the snow didn't stick around!

Regina - I did two laps of my five mile route and then one lap of my 6 mile route. It was slow because it was quite windy but I got it done! To be honest, I was lacking a bit of motivation myself. I would have rather been sitting at home with a hot chocolate and a book or watching a movie. Hope your 8 miler went well!

Tandy - How did the party go? The thought of McDonald's always makes my mouth water. I think it brings back childhood memories. The actual taste and then having the food sit in my stomach... I'll agree is yuck! Good luck with your studying!!

AFM - In my baking class on Friday, we made chocolate crackle cookies and split second cookies. The split second cookies remind me of biscotti with jam. I'm not sure why they're called split second cookies because they're not any faster to make than other cookies. The chocolate crackle cookies looked really pretty (but I still like my own cookies better LOL  )

I did an 8 miler and a 16 miler this weekend. Both went fairly well but were s-l-o-w! It's kind of funny to think that I did a 30K last year in 3:05 but my 16 miler today took over 3:30. I'm still getting use to the idea of getting the miles in and not being too concerned with time. I took a really long nap after the 16 miler. Next week will be a cutback week. Yay for a LR of 12 miles! Never thought I'd say that

I found this article on marathon running. It has 26.2 tips on running a marathon from the elite runner who won the Scotiabank Waterfront marathon this year. I thought it was interesting that he says he doesn't use any gels. I wonder if he eats anything at all during the race. Also interesting that he says to run with shoes and not barefoot.

Hope everyone is having a great night :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - There does not seem to be a MVMCP, but there is the Candlelight Processional show, and a daily Christmas Parade, Christmas fireworks, Haunted Mansion is changed to include Jack Skellington, and apparently they change Its a Small World also - have not seen that one yet. Yes, we are racking up the frequent flyer miles, saving them to use them later in retirement when we have less money to spend on travel. Saw your chocolate crackle cookies on FB - they looked really good.

Dave - LOL yes, we do have freakish winds here! Last night it was blowing at 50mph when I went to bed, when I checked the weather station today, our max gust was at 60 mph about midnight. Todays forecast call for wind 30-40mph sustained and 50 mph gusts.

AFM - Still windy out - no dog walk - did not even get downstairs to the spin bike - again! It will continue to be windy until Wed (maybe a bit lighter tomorrow). We did get out of the house to go shopping yesterday, but otherwise we holed up again. I do have errands to run today or tomorrow, will see which day I get out.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Monday, everyone!

Had a great run on the treadmill this morning. Actually, I wasn't running but walking! I can finally walk the faster pace on my interval training so I guess that means that I need to increase the pace again....

Tandy: Hope that party went well.

Mike: How did the race go?

Don't think I can make our HM meets in January. My daughters are running the Mickey Mile Friday morning and we may be heading home on Sunday evening. Who is planning to go to the POP meet?

Hello Team mates.

I had a teriffic workout this morning. I watched the Owls of Ga'Hoole over the weekend and in that movie the wise old hedgehog told them that to find the Guardians that they were seeking that, "You must fly till you can't fly any more and you have nothing left, then you will be half way". That was my mantra for todays mean interval workout. 5 miles total with 4 X 800m walk sprints at a 10:50 to 11:18 mpm pace. We were working out in a have inclosed statium so we were bucking a wind on have the track. When we were done with the strongest interval so far, I looked up on the big statium lights and I told my partner, those look like owls, on the top of the banks of lights, three in all. They were owls. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

I will probably stop by the Pop meet and greet with Sally. It's fun seeing some of the gang. Speaking of the gang does anyone know what ever happened to our wheelchair Warrior Princess, Phyco?

Having a day off and getting errands done.

Dave:hippie:

Hi team! Happy Monday!

Dave - I haven't spoken to Kirstie in a while so I'm not sure what she's up to. I know she mentioned that she does read the boards so she'll probably see that you're asking about her. WTG on your workouts! You're walking faster than I'm running most days!

Elizabeth - Aww that's too bad :( If you do have time, pop Kona by and say hi! I'll be at the team meet on Friday for a bit. Has your spider bite healed up? Good job on your TM workout!

Lynn - Thanks for the compliment! You've got to get Scott to post pictures of all the yummy treats he's making. I'm still thinking about the pumpkin pancakes! With the LRs being as long as they are on the weekend - they're a bit tricky for me to make. I love It's a Small World - something about it reminds me of when I use to visit WDW as a kid! It look pretty cool decked out for Christmas!

AFM - I had the most difficult time going to sleep last night. No idea why... You'd think after running 16 miles, I'd be out like a light. Nope. I wasn't able to fall asleep until 5AM  At which point, I wasn't in much shape to go to work. So I stayed home and made some (more) cookies for my mom to her group get together tomorrow. I tried not to nap for very long today so hopefully I'll be tired for tomorrow.

I still went to the gym in the evening and worked out. I did some single leg exercises, hamstring stretches and some metabolic exercises. My trainer said he thought I was leaning out. Yay! So I went home and had a cookie after dinner :cutie: The scale didn't move at all last Friday but my clothes feel like they're looser so maybe it's a week for losing inches.

Vicky: Ooh, playing hooky is fun. I am starting to reach that mental exhaustion point where I'd love to just stay home in bed. Maybe this weekend. :thumbsup2 Fantastic job on your runs this weekend. You are doing awesome with your training. You'll be ready for Goofy with no problem.

Dave: I have read all of those Guardians of Ga'hoole books, and love the messages in them. Great job on the training.

Elizabeth: Great job getting your pace up there. The party was great (more later).

Lynn: Your wind sounds tough. We are very windy here (Kansas is flat), but we do get breaks on occasion. I just try to start my runs into the wind so they end with the wind at my back. I have always wanted to go to Disney during the Christmas season, but never seem to make it. That will be a fun trip. The boys were all 11 and 12.

Regina: Immortals looked pretty interesting from the previews. I VERY rarely go to movies (I'm too much of a cheapskate), but have got to go see the Muppets. How was the 8 miles?

AFM: I am alive and well. Ready for my tests. Got my paper done, and hope it's good. It's about how the dwindling of PE class time is contributing to the childhood obesity epidemic, which is something I'm kind of passionate about.

The party was so much fun. The boys had a great time. We did marathon video gaming, Nerf wars at the park, hot dogs and smores over a fire, and a lot of wrestling (I just don't understand boys). I then managed to get the house clean by Sunday evening when my parents showed up to celebrate. :thumbsup2

Harrison and I got a 3 mile run in on Sunday, then I did 8 yesterday along with my zumba class. I bought some funky new running shoes yesterday. They are Asics (can't remember which ones), but they are bright neon yellow and hot pink swirls mixed with black. They actually glow in the dark and are almost blinding tacky. I love them! They were on clearance for $39 and are normally $120, so I think I got a deal. They'll be great for my running in the dark. I also bought a handheld water bottle, since I'll need more water for these ridiculously long runs. It's got a little pouch, so I can carry another gel. I think I can work out up to a 12-15 mile out and back if I can carry 2 gels, so the most I'll have is 3 loops during my longest 36 mile run.

I need to try to get back to sleep (nerve plexuses are running through my head waking me up). Hope everyone has a great day.

Tandy the shoes sound very fun. I wear racing flats for my race walking and most of the flats are in bright colors. I've had electric blue, bright orange, frog green and signal yellow, fortunately this year my favorite shoes come in black with a little orange trim.

I to want to see the imortals and the Sally wants to see Twilight. Muppets are always a fun watch.

Training today will be a strong walk at the mall since it's raining out. I don't leave for an hour though so if it quits I'll go to the hills at the park instead. I think my training is going along better than ever even though I haven't had any LSD, lots of intensity though.

Can't believe we are as close as we are to the big event.

Have a magical day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - We usually do not think about taking pictures of “food porn” until after we have either started eating or eaten it all.

Dave - Good workout!

Tandy - We are flat also, that is why we get the winds - and it is still blowing - usually the really strong winds do not last this long. Glad you survived the weekend! Glad you got your studying done!

Elizabeth - Good Morning!

AFM - Still windy here - sustained winds 30-40mph with gusting to 60mph. I did get downstairs yesterday on the spin bike for about 45 min. Wind is predicted to subside tonight, down to “breezy” but breezy is manageable!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Tuesday, everyone,

Well the treadmill kicked my butt this morning. I increased my intervals to 1:3. I didn't know I could sweat that much! ;) Legs are tired but I'm happy to have done it.

Tandy: Congrats on getting Harrison out for a run. I'm running with my DD10 (Rachel) who has grown so much over the past year that she now wears my shoe size and is my height (5'3"). I worry about the weight that she has gained during this crazy growth spurt so she and I are training for the Expedition Everest 5K in May. Tell me more about the water bottle because I'm looking for one now.

Vicky: The spider bite is healed but I have a scar that appears to be permanent. I don't hesitate to kill any spider now. Gone are the days when I would catch them so that I could relocate them outside.

Lynn: Ahh the return of the winds! I imagine that riding a bike in the wind must be great strength training. Your 'breezy day' would probably make the weather news here in NC. We briefly have winds in April for about a week.

Glad to hear that I might get to see Vicky and Panda at the POP meet. Anyone else?

Where is Saylan?

Yes Sally and I will make an appearance at the WISH meet, the group picture is lot's of fun and it's the only time except for during the race that I get to see some of the other WISHers.

Dave:hippie:

Not going for a run this morning; I had some shin pain in my right leg yesterday. It is the same spot that hurts when I overdo it. I'll do some XT this afternoon at the gym.

My new Asics are bothering my right heel. After a run it feels as though my foot is resting on the side of the shoe and not in the foot bed. Wonder if that is causing the shin pain?

Good Morning Team!

Elizabeth - Yes, bike riding in the wind is very challenging - it is much easier to walk in the wind. Hope your leg feels better!

AFM - Wind has slacked slightly, in fact, last night was so quiet that I had trouble sleeping LOL, but it has picked up again this morning, but I am still hoping to get dogs out today for a walk. It is much colder today - high of 32 - apparently, the wind also brings warmer temps. I have finally caught Scott’s cold - it hit me last night - today I am very stuffed up and feel rather blah. Yesterday I did make it to the basement again for 55 min on the spin bike - but not at much effort.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi team!

Lynn - You and Scott should start up a food truck :) I love all the tasty ideas you guys come up with. The weather up here is still relatively warm - about 51F I think. Lots of pixiedust: for you and Scott! Feel better soon!

Elizabeth - Sometimes a slight change in your running form can cause aches and pains. Maybe the new shoes are causing you to adjust your gait or form just enough to cause the pain. Did you take the new shoes on a short run or a longer run? Ice your shins and they'll feel better ... if you're brave, you can try massaging them slightly.

I kill all creepy, crawly, buzzing things in my house. Unless they're ladybugs or butterflies. Otherwise, they can go! If your scar is still red, you could try using scar cream and it might lessen in colour. But that must have been quite the bite yikes!

Dave - Do you get a flu shot? One tip someone gave me to prevent colds and other winter illnesses was to gargle with salt water every night. It kills harmful bacteria (and is good for your gums). And keep washing your hands but I think everyone knows about that one already :) Hope you have a great training walk!

Tandy - Your new Asics sound awesome! I think all running shoes should glow in the dark :) You are going to have to email me the next time there's a sale on shoes... OTOH it's probably better that you don't  Your weekend sounds crazy busy but that's amazing that you got everything done! The party sounds like it was a real blast! I nearly :faint: when you said 36 mile run! I have to go and Google what nerve plexus means :cutie:

AFM - I went out for a quick 3 miler last night. It was still relatively warm so I saw one runner who was out in shorts and a tee. Meanwhile, I was bundled up in my jacket, tights, gloves and long sleeved shirt. I tend to dress warmer than needed because I sometimes end up walking. I felt really good last night and was able to finish my run in just over 31 minutes. Much faster than I've done lately. I even did the last split at 9:40 m/m.

Tonight's a rest night so I'm probably going to run a few errands and just veg in front of the TV or read a book :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:
