Hakuna Matada - Chilly November

Hi Team!

Lynn- A trip to DL sounds like fun! Is it windy year round? Hope the pups get out for their walk and you feel better soon.

Vicky- Great job getting your 16 miles done! LOL, I think it is okay to like your own cookies better. :thumbsup2 Wow, that is a bummer you were up until 5am. I always hated nights like that when I had to work the next day…made for a grumpy day. Looser clothes is great news! Yay for your faster 3 mile run last night! Enjoy your rest day!

Tandy- We rarely go to the movies anymore. The theater here just isn’t as nice as the theaters we had before we moved, and it makes me sad. (Yes I am spoiled.) If I’m going to pay the expensive price for a movie ticket, I’d rather spend it knowing I’m going to like the stadium seating, comfy chairs, extra space etc. LOL, on the bright side we are definitely saving more money from it. We liked Immortals. We both had a few questions about the storylines at the end, but it was still interesting. How long do the kids get for PE these days? I guess I didn’t realize the time had been shortened? Glad to hear you’re ready for tests and your paper is finished. Great deal on the shoes!! Great to hear the party went well and all had a good time!

Dave- So which movie will you see first? Immortals or Twilight? I would also like to see the Muppets.

Elizabeth- I am still undecided if I will stop by the POP meet or not. I’m glad your spider bite has healed even though you have a permanent scar. I hate spiders, so unfortunately whenever one is inside my home it quickly dies. I think it could be the shoes.

AFM, I did not make it out for my 8 mile run Sunday. I can’t remember if I mentioned this or not, but I was having pain in my right leg (quad area) last week. I didn’t know if it was a sore muscle, but it seemed to be localized to one spot. It didn't feel like my normal muscle soreness? Anyway, it was still hurting on Saturday, but I went out for a 4 mile run anyway thinking maybe it just needed to be loosened up or something and I could run through it. That didn’t help. It was still hurting after my 4 mile run and when I got up on Sunday to go run the 8 miles there was no change. The pain was not excruciating or anything, but I did not want to push it, so I decided not to run Sun. Don’t know if that was the right choice or not because I know I need to get the miles in and I hated the idea of missing a run. It was still hurting yesterday, but I didn’t notice anything this morning (that’s not saying much though because at 4:45 in the morning I’m not exactly observant) so I went ahead and went out for my scheduled 4 mile run. So far it seems to be ok but I’m going to keep an eye on it. I have no idea what I did to it. :confused3

Vicky, no I don't get the flu shot. In 1974 the government gave it's military members the experimental swine flu vacine. Several troops died from it, lots of others got very sick. I was sick for a couple of months after. I don't take anything unless it's a vacine that has been proven safe over years like the vacines that are commonly given to children and for stuff like yellow fever, plague ect...

I would like to see the Imortals first, Sally the Twilight movie, muppets are for both of us.

It was pouring rain so my group went to the mall and we played 5 miles of hare and hound. It was an awesome effort. The many turns made it more difficult.

I'm walking an hours with Sally this afternoon at the mall. that will give me a total of about 8.5 miles for the day.

Dave:hippie:

Dave: Dang, one walk isn't enough for you anymore? I still get myself a flu shot every year. I have an autoimmune disease and don't need to be getting sick (although I feel something coming on). :sad1:
I really don't think I could sit through Twilight. I have friends that are just ga ga for it, but I can't get into it at all. I'm excited for Hunter Games, but don't know when exactly that ones coming out.

Vicky: Yeah, I don't think I'll let you know when there's a shoe sale. You're too much like me! ;) Good job getting your time down a bit. 51 is still toasty warm. I'd be that nut in shorts and a tee.

Regina: I'm sorry your leg is hurting bad enough to keep you from running. It's good you were able to get out there today. The good news is that there's still plenty of training time. I hurt myself at this time last year and couldn't run at all for about 4 weeks. I still made it through Goofy just fine. Yes, I like the nice movie theaters too. We have the Fork and Screen here and the Cinema Suites where you can order a meal and alcoholic drinks while you watch in your LazyBoy type recliner. Very nice.

Lynn: I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. Is Scott well enough to take care of you now?;)

Elizabeth: Hope you can work out all the nagging little pains. I hope the shoe situation can get worked out, because you don't want that to continue for sure.
You and your daughter should have a lot of fun doing that race. I would love to do it with Harrison, but who knows if I'll ever get back to Disney during the school year now that I'm in school. The bottle is an Amphipod. It's a 20 oz bottle and the handle can hold a key or small Ipod. We used it yesterday and it's great.

AFM: I think my stress has finally caught up to me. I am sick. I was supposed to run 5 today, and go to zumba, but I have no energy. Of course, instead of that, I emptied Harrison's room, painted it, shampooed his carpet, put together his new desk and hung his new mini blinds. :confused3 I was hoping to get started putting it back together, because his toys and piles of junk are now filling the hall, the guest room and the family room, but I am completely out of steam. We promised to take Harrison out to dinner tonight, and then, I think I'm going to bed. I can't miss school tomorrow, so I better get some rest.

Wow Tandy that's quite a room project for someone with no energy. That movie theater experience sounds awesome, what does dinner and a movie like that cost?

One of the things I've discovered over the years, through trial and error of course, is that you injure yourself in sport when you are feeling the best. It's when you feel really strong and you push just a wee bit over the edge and whack something. So in honor of how good I'm feeling after 3 hard workouts in a row I'm taking a rest day.

Sally and I will be staying at the Old Key West Resort at Disney this trip, where is everyone else staying?

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

It's been a crazy work week. Just a quick flyby to say hi!

PD to all who are not feeling 100%.
Have a great day..............Sue

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - I feel much better after sleeping 11 hours last night! Congrats on your fast run!

Dave - We get flu shots every year, but I understand your hesitation. Sounds like a great workout!

Regina - There is often wind here, but often it is just a mild breeze - especially in the morning, but it is not usual to have such high wind for so long. We rarely go to a movie theatre, usually just wait for the movie we want to see to come out on DVD. Take care of the sore leg!

Tandy - Scott and I disagree on care - yes, he is feeling better, but when I am sick, I just want to be left alone (my 11 hour sleep last night really helped), whereas Scott needs to be taken care of when he is sick - fortunately, neither of us get sick very often. Hope you feel better soon!

Sue - You have a great day also!

AFM - Although the wind diminished a bit yesterday, it was cold, I was getting ready to go out with the dogs, checked our weather station which said the wind chill was 7 degrees:scared1:and decided to skip the walk. I did throw a dog toy in the back yard for the dogs (they will not retrieve - they will just chase something that is moving - so it is difficult to really play for any length of time) for a bit. After that, I had no energy for the spin bike, so I just skipped exercise all together. Today is warmer - 50 degrees instead of 30 degrees, but the “warming” wind is back - gusting to 60mph today. Not much wind right now, but too cold to go out, will see what the afternoon holds.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Thursday, everyone,

Today my office smells like Thanksgiving. More specifically, ham, chicken, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, apples, you get the idea. I work with the biggest eaters I have ever known. I'm counting on y'all to keep me straight. Otherwise, I'm going to gain at least 10 pounds before Christmas.;)

Sue: Hi!

Lynn: Feel better!

Tandy: Get some rest. Don't worry about Harrison's stuff in the hallway; you need a break.

Vicky: I took the shoes on a short run and loosened the laces quite a bit thinking that they might be the problem. The whole shoe just feels wrong. I'm going back to the store this afternoon to see what their solution will be.

Regina: Hope the leg is better.

Dave: We are staying at All-Star Sports, although I may change to POFQ if I can get a good rate.

Hi team!

Elizabeth - Sounds like your office is doing a potluck and it sounds yummy! I don't have many words of wisdoms when it comes to eating in the office only because I'm not that great myself. I would say to have a small snack before lunch - maybe a small soup, a fruit cup or maybe some yogurt. Then make sure you fill your plate with mostly veggies like a salad and try to have fruit for a dessert.

Good luck with your shoes! I hope they're able to do an exchange for you. If not, you could try posting on the WISH FB page and maybe someone else would want to buy them.

Lynn - You must have been tired! But I had a long night's sleep last weekend and it's amazing how refreshed your body feels after a good night's sleep! I'm glad you're feeling better. I put myself in the like to be looked after camp when I'm sick. Mostly because it feels like it takes 100x more effort to cook when I'm under the weather! I think we got some of your wind in Toronto today - it is blustery and chilly! Brr! Looks like I spoke too soon yesterday!

Sue - Don't work too hard! Chilly morning today! Any plans to go running tonight?

Dave - I'm at Pop! I did exactly what you posted about last year. I had an awesome 30K and ignored the advice of taking a break after a race. I jumped right back into running and injured my knee  But it's very true that we push harder when we're feeling good! It's very good advice you've given.

I had no idea about the history of the flu shot! Yikes! I have never gotten one mostly due to the fact that I'm terrified of needles!

Tandy - pixiedust: Sounds like you might be stretching yourself a bit thin in between school, running, working out, organizing Harrison's party, entertaining your parents... and now interior design! It sounds like Harrison's room will look awesome when you're done! Did you take before and after pictures? Is it part of his birthday present?

I'm going to try and stay off the computer on Black Friday and Cyber Monday :) Even though Black Friday is a US thing, a lot of the Canadian retailers have started to have Black Friday sales as well. Do you have any shopping trips planned?

Regina - Do you have a foam roller? It might help with loosening a tight muscle. You're right not to push - it's better to take things easy now, rather than later. You are an early bird! The only way I could get up for a 4:45 AM run is if I stayed up that late  What's your neighbourhood like that early in the morning? Are there other people up and about? Any other runners?

AFM - I have a sports massage scheduled for this evening. Everything's been feeling good lately so I want to try and keep my muscles loose and relaxed. I think I will be scheduling another one or two before January. Luckily, they're mostly covered by work.

I have this recipe I want to try for chicken posole but can't seem to find hominy at any of the regular grocery stores. But I think that's more to do with area that I live in - mostly Caucasian than anything else. I'm going to check out another few stores on the weekend and hopefully I'll find something there. I also have a recipe for Grand Marnier cupcakes that I'm going to try making but that's more of a time permitting project than anything else.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Just got back from the shoe store with a larger pair of shoes. Hope this works. I'm taking tonight off and will run tomorrow.

Yes, Vicky, it was a yummy potluck. I managed to stay away from the dessert table but not all the casseroles and other starchy dishes. I love chicken posole. Happy to ship you some hominy as it is very common here!

Wishing everyone a good weekend!

Elizabeth: I hope the bigger shoes work. I've moved up from my normal size by a full size and sometimes a size and a half. I already have huge feet, so you can imagine my clown shoes. We stayed at POFQ this year and it was so relaxing after my Goofy running, not that other resorts wouldn't be. I just appreciated the calm quiet of the place.

Vicky: Hominy is everywhere here, but I think it's just the fact that we have everything everywhere here. I hope the massages help. I know that at this time in training, you want to keep up whatever works. I don't have any shopping planned except Nebraska Furniture Mart (huge furniture store). We need to buy Harrison a dresser and some sort of futon/couch. None of this is really part of his birthday, it was just time.

Lynn: I'm the same way when I'm sick. Just leave me alone and let me sleep. Glad the dogs got a little exercise, but it sounds like you did too, if they don't retrieve. Because my dog is a terrier, he could retrieve all day long and be a complete spaz about it.

Sue: Thanks. Hope work slows down soon.

Dave: The movie tickets are $12 each and then, dinner is whatever you order, but somewhere around $15 each plus drinks. Frank thinks it's too expensive, but he's the biggest cheapskate that ever lived. :)

AFM: Well, I made it through school yesterday, but it was hard to concentrate since I have a fever (I stayed away from everyone). The good news is that my paper was used as an example in class. The professor said that it was great and that I really knew how to connect to my audience. Then, an A on algebra test and an A on anatomy test. Of course, it was a 90.00, but I'll take it.

I did take a break from working on Harrison's bedroom, but made him work on it a little. We're going shopping today to get him sort sort of couch that makes into a bed in a pinch. Since he's now got 2 of our bedrooms, his bedroom has to be the guest bedroom. So, we figure he can bunk in his gaming room when we have guests.

No running yesterday, so I made Harrison run on the treadmill. I am itching to get back out there, yet I have no energy at all. I am supposed to run today, but we'll see how I feel. I think I have 6 scheduled, and that just sounds like a lot.

I went to bed early and just woke up at midnight for some reason. So, I'm heading back to bed. Have a great Friday everyone.

Good morning team. It's 23 degrees here, brrrrrrrrrr, but I woke very at peace with my world. I'll be headed to the mall for my training since I let my gym membership expire I don't have the treadmill to use any more. Not a problem I'll shoot for a 4 mile personal best at the mall route. I use the track and the hills to build strength so don't really need the gym anyway. Miss the hot whirlpool tub though.

Have a great TGIF y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - We once went out shopping on Black Friday - never again! Unless you need a large ticket item (like big screen TV), the savings are not worth the aggravation! Now I have never gotten into Black Friday on the internet - did not even realize internet followed - but it makes sense. If you are unable to find hominy, could you use corn instead? Grand Marnier cupcakes sound good!

Dave - We do not use a gym, we have lots of exercise equipment in our basement - not that we use it as much as we should! The advantage of a gym for me was the aerobics classes - I have aerobic tapes but it is easier to skip them at home than it was for a paid for class!

Tandy - Great job on the grades and having your paper used as an example in class!

Elizabeth - Thanks, I feel much better. Glad the store exchanged the shoes for you!

AFM - Still windy here - although it is supposed to calm down later today - we are hoping for a bike ride, and I am hoping to get dogs out for a walk. It will turn cold again tomorrow, so will get the trees watered today - they will especially need it after all the wind we have had! I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies last night with some cherry chips we found at the store yesterday (half choco, half cherry chips), but so I would not eat them all in one sitting - I froze most of them in 4 cookie packages, Scott really liked them, I thought they were just OK. I did get on the spin bike yesterday for about 45 min.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi team! Just a quick fly by for me today! The massage last night was good but I think I prefer the MT I've been seeing at the other clinic. He's really good at getting the knots out but the MT I saw last night is better at doing a relaxing massage.

Dave - How many laps in the mall do you have to do to get 4 miles? Have a great training walk today!

Tandy - Take it easy today! Better to save the 6 miles for a day when you'll feel good running, rather than slogging through them with a fever. Congrats on your 90%! That's awesome! And really great that the prof used your paper as a good example for the class!!

Elizabeth- Good job on the potluck yesterday! You'll burn off the carby food on a run this weekend. No worries :) I may take you up on your offer if I can't find any here. I'm going to try a bulk food store downtown that supposedly has it - canned and dried. I saw your post on the expo, if you need help picking anything up, let me know.

AFM - Looks like the scale was pretty good to me this week. I'm down 1.4 lbs! Yay! If I can keep going at a rate of 1lb/week, I'll have lost all of weight by January. Of course with Christmas around the corner that's a bit tricky.

And speaking of sweets, I made some Grand Marnier buttercream frosting last night. I think I got high from the fumes :faint: It was quite yummy after everything was mixed in. I plan to use them on some double chocolate cupcakes this weekend. Tonight, we're making choco-mint pinwheels in class. I've never had those kinds of cookies before so it should be interesting!

I will be running this weekend 13 miles and 6 miles. Thank goodness for cutback weeks!

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

I have been looking for those cherry chips everywhere in Toronto (that and these mint Andes chips)! You'd think for such a big city we live in some kind of culinary wasteland  I may have to go on a grocery shopping trip in January. Or maybe I'll open my own grocery store! Sheesh!

I put my best Grrrrrrrrr!! on, headed out for my 4 mile training walk and lowered my PR for that route by a minute and 10 seconds. I'm feeling stronger all the time and I could have keep going at the 11:33 per mile pace for a lot longer. I think there is hope for racing at a sub 11:00 min per mile pace by early next year. I will not slack off, I will not lose faith, I will not seek the easy, I will keep moving forward!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

Vicky it's .8 miles around the mall so 5 laps. I do a lap to warm up then slip into race walking technique for the next 5 laps. It's acctually a tough route because of all the hard turns.

Lynn I once had weights and a treadmill in the house, never used the stuff in the house anyway though. I would like to get a hot tub eventually.

Dave:hippie:

Hello team!

Tandy - Good luck on getting a laptop. I usually wait until mid-morning or afternoon to go out on Black Friday since I'm not trying to get doorbuster deals. Glad Harrison's party went well. Your new shoes sound awesome. Hope you are feeling better! Congrats on your paper and test grades!

Regina - My motivation is about the same, maybe a bit better. I feel like I'm doing the minimum I need to do for this race and I haven't pushed myself to do any cross training. Hope your leg is feeling better!

Lynn - Christmas at DL is fun. They don't have a seperate party, but I think the decorations on Small World are amazing and I like the parade.

Elizabeth - Too bad you can't make the team meets. We're staying at Pop but don't know if I'm going to the meet there. If we're around the hotel, I will probably stop by.

Vicky - I hate needles, too. I just look away when I get a shot. Blood draws are much worse for me, I almost passed out the last time I had to do it.

Dave - WTG on your training walk!

AFM - I had a busy week, I'm glad it's the weekend. Though I have lot to do this weekend. I need to go gorcery shopping and clean the house for Thanksgiving. We also have an 11 mile run this weekend.

Last weekend, I met up with a friend form college to watch our school's football game. I had a good time and we won our game. Also, we did a magic mile as part of Galloway's training plan. We did it in 9:29. This was my fastest mile ever :)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Emily

Good Afternoon Team! Yeah for Friday!!

Dave, Sounds like your training is going well. You must be very pleased!

Tandy, Congrats on your paper and great test scores.

Vicky, Have fun baking tonight.
I will say part of me is enjoying not having to do long weekend runs. This is the first time 5 yrs the house is already decorated for Christmas.

Lynn, I would so love to partake in Black Friday but the waits at the border crossings are crazy 2-3 hr. waits just to get into the US and then back again.

Elizabeth Hope the new shoes work out.

Nothing exciting to report. Have an appointment tomorrow to get the snowtires put on the car. I'm so not ready to have snow!!

Saturday is our city's Santa Claus parade. All the floats are decorated with lights. Hoping the weather is good so we can attend.

Happy training and have a great weekend...............Sue

Hi Team!

Vicky- I have a stick I have been using on my legs and such, but not a foam roller. When I run early, it is usually on a TM at DH’s work. The area where we live does not have a neighborhood and is mainly road and not well lit, so I am hesitant to run on the road before the sun starts to rise. The direction I would run on the road does not have many cars since I would run toward the beaches, as opposed to into town. I don’t mind running on the TM though as long as at least half my other runs get to be outside. Plus, it helps keep me consistent with my running when I can run in AM. That is awesome your sports massage is mostly covered by work! How did it go? Good luck finding hominy. Congrats on the weight loss! That’s great!

Tandy- I just don’t know what I did to my leg? It’s a nice reminder I still have plenty of training time! I’m sorry you’re sick. I hope you feel better soon! LOL, I laughed when you said Frank is the biggest cheapskate that ever lived. Wow Harrison has a gaming room and a bedroom? He’s a lucky guy! Are you going to share pics of the finished room?

Lynn- A mild breeze is not bad…much better than long lasting high winds. Glad you’re feeling better! Great idea to freeze some of your cookies so you wouldn’t eat them all! Hope you made it out for your bike ride and walk.

Elizabeth- My advice on the holiday work food would be to stay away from the main kitchen area where all the food is during the day after the potluck so you don’t continue snacking and overeat. How did the larger shoes work out?

Dave- Congrats on your awesome training run Friday!!

Emily- Hope the grocery shopping and house cleaning go well. Congrats on your speedy mile!! Good luck on your 11 mile run this weekend.

Sue- Hope you are able to attend the Santa Claus parade Saturday. Sounds like fun! Yikes, snow tires…makes winter seem a little more official.

AFM, I had a 5 mile run today. It went well and I enjoyed it. I didn’t notice any issues in my quad area so that was also a plus. My LRs are Sunday and Monday at 7 and 14 miles. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Good morning team.

I'm up and ready to head out for a training walk, not sure what I'll do yet or where, I'll figure it out when I get going. I often don't have a mission in mind when I head out, I'll just start and see how it goes. Most of the time I have a route in mind or a perticular track session but sometimes I just go till I feel like quiting.

I have everything prepared for January, shoes for the race will be ordered in a month or so and I'll wear them the first time on the half, that way I get the maximum padding. I wear racing flats so not as much padding as a trainer has. I have 2 cold weather outfits ready to take as well as 2 medium condition outfits and a couple of hot weather sets ready. After that horrid 2010 race I prepare for extreme conditions. I have everything I need except money, anyone else have trouble finding that besides me?

I need to get in a couple of 8 milers in the next couple of weeks, I'm off on black friday so maybe I'll do a long training walk that day since I won't be partaking of the sales. I work in the mall so going there during that maddness would not be fun.

Have a great weekend y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Congrats on the weight loss! The frosting sounds yummy! We do not usually have cherry chips, but they were on a display of Thanksgiving food in our regular grocery store.

Dave - We had an outdoor hot tub in Jackson, that we would use maybe once a month, and every month I had to put chemicals in the water. Now we have one inside that we have to fill whenever we use it, easier to maintain - still do not use it often, but it is really nice to have when you are sore. What was nice about the outside one was watching the night sky while soaking.

Regina - Good to hear the leg is better!

Emily - Great job on the “magic mile”!

Sue - Our Christmas Parade is next Saturday, at 5pm, also lots of lights. We will see what the weather is like before we decide whether or not to go.

AFM - Well, the wind that was supposed to stop at 10AM did not quit until 5PM - it was suddenly very nice out as the sun was setting - I was just finishing up watering the trees so I was outside for it. We did ride the bikes out to the mailbox via the loop (same as my dog walk - 1.27 miles), but it was not fun coming back from mailboxes against the wind. Today we did wake up to the dusting of promised snow, it is supposed to be cold today - high of 29 - but no wind, so I may go out with the dogs today anyway - I have to get used to the cold weather sometime - might as well be today!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!
