Hakuna Matada - Chilly November

We are back, we had a great time except for the traffic ticket. Tired now and doing the laundry and putting stuf away.

We didn't do any training but lots of walking, I feel tired but good. I have a hard interval workout in the morning so I'm curious how that will go.

Anyway hope y'all had a great weekend to.

Dave:hippie:

Hi everyone! Did you guys enjoy the extra hour today? I thought I would use it for sleep but I ended up going out for a run early and then going to brunch. I also made some carrot cupcakes and lemon cream cheese frosting! A little too yummy so I hope my family eats them all (so that I won't  )

Dave - Sorry to hear about the ticket :( Was it a speed trap? They hide in really sneaky places sometimes. Are you going to try and fight it or just pay the fine? Sounds like you and Sally had a great weekend! Did you find any deals at the outlet mall?

Lynn - I'm the same way. I eat pretty much anything and everything while on vacation but sometimes do the same when I get home. I got the same comments at the Disney races in 2010. What I tried to explain was that when I go running at home, it might be -15C (5F) but I certainly don't stand around for 1.5 hours waiting doing nothing before I start running. For me that was one of the biggest problems at Disney that year. Oh yeah and the rain didn't help either  Hope you enjoyed the Lion King! And lots of pixiedust: for Scott and his cold!

Kim - Welcome back! Not gaining weight while on vacation is a huge success! That's awesome that you only had one day of rain :) Were you on a Disney cruise?

Eva - How was your 10 miler? Kudos to you for getting up so early to get it done! Do you get overtime for working on Thanksgiving? If you want to do the team Turkey Trot, no worries about doing it exactly on Thursday. I think anytime that weekend is fine :) I do hope that you get the day off! No fair having to work on Thanksgiving.

Sue - I'm glad you liked the cookies! I like the flatter cookies too :) And I can't say I noticed you being fat! Aren't we about the same size LOL

Tandy - Oh I've wanted that style for a while. Last year, I bought a teal pair of Bailey Button Triplet. I like that I can roll them down to make a shorter boot. Do you wear your Uggs with socks? I only ask because someone said you're not suppose to because the fleece inside is moisture wicking. I know how you feel about your running pace. Same here - I'm usually doing training runs at about 10-10:30 m/m and now I'm slowing down to 11:30-12 m/m. But I think the speed drops off after you're coming back from an injury. It will pick up soon enough! I'm probably going to see The Muppet movie on Thanksgiving weekend ... unfortunately we don't get US Thanksgiving off.

Emily - Ah I missed the part about your ILs visit. Is there anyway they could stay with another relative or sibling? The holidays are so close to marathon weekend this year, it's going to be really hectic!

AFM - I ran 14 miles on Saturday and did 6.75 this morning. I was late for brunch so I figured I'll add the 0.25 miles onto another run this week. Both were kind of slow but I'm trying to feel good about just being able to get out and run. Much better than sitting on the sidelines right?

I didn't get a chance to go to my friend's house for the cookie decorating. She had double booked so I told her not to worry about it. We're just going to go for lunch tomorrow at work. I did decorate the sugar cookies I made in class on Friday. I made a few Mickey heads and my friend also lent me a squirrel cookie cutter which was super cute!

Tomorrow, I'm going to the gym in the evening and that's about it. No running until Tuesday. I'm trying to take a day of rest in between my running (except for the weekend b2b LRs) so that I do re-injure myself.

Have a great night everyone! :wave2:

Hey Dave welcome back!!!!

Vicky no not a disney cruise this time it was Carnival. We did disney from Monday to Friday, drove to Miami got on the ship Saturday and off and home the other day.

Just checking in before I go work out. Going to be tough although we walked alot no real cardio and except for suitcases and pina colada's no heavy lifting;)

Have a great day all

Good Morning Team!

Dave - good luck with your workout - it might be better after the couple day break from training!

Vicky - Lion King was great!

Kim - Good luck going back to work, hope it is not too crazy after being off.

AFM - I did get the dogs out for a walk before heading to Denver - it was cool (29 degrees) and a bit windy, but I did a better pace than I have been doing (16:25 m/m instead of 18:30 m/m). Maybe that means I am getting adjusted to the altitude again!

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Good Morning Team!

Vicky, I had the last 2 cookies for breakfast on Sat.:thumbsup2
I didn't feel any benefit to the extra hour but sure could have used some.
What beautiful weather we had! It was a great weekend for running.

Kim, Welcome back. Glad to hear you had a great trip.

Lynn, When are you booked for Aulani? I didn't think I was in any rush to go there until I started ready trip reports & seeing pics.
Have you been to Hawaii before?

Happy training everyone...........Sue

:bday: :cake: :cake: :bday:

party: Happy Birthday Elizabeth!! party:

:bday:

Hope you're having a wonderful day!

Happy Birthday Elizabeth!!!

I'm happy to say that my first workout after a 4 day rest break went great. I did 6 miles total, 2 mile brisk warm up then 4 X 800m repeats with 400m rest intervals then a one mile cool down. Normally this workout drains me, today I felt like I could do a couple more.

I didn't gain any weight at Gatlinburg but didn't lose any either. I still want to drop another 26 lbs.

Have a magical day y'all.

Happy Monday morning team.

Sue: Lucky you, getting some of Vicky's cookies. I just get to drool over her creation descriptions! At least you have lots of time to train for your half ironman. I think I'd rather do a duathalon just because I am not a strong swimmer. Oh, and the thought of having to either race is a bathing suit or change just sounds challenging to me.

Elizabeth: Happy birthday!!!!!

Dave: Great job on the weight maintenance and glad you had such a nice trip. You'll get that 26 off, I'm sure. It's good to take a little off and then, take a break for awhile and come back. At least, that's been my theory with my husband. He just gets bored with super healthy eating and needs a break sometimes.

Lynn: Glad you enjoyed Lion King. Great job getting out there everyday. I bet the dogs are happy to have you home and taking them out. :thumbsup2How's Scott feeling?

Kim: Welcome back and glad to hear you had a good vacation. Unfortunately, it's back to reality now.

Vicky: Awesome mileage this weekend! :thumbsup2 I am a firm believer in socks with my Uggs. I didn't wear any with my first pair and they are nasty! Never again. I just wear little short socks so I don't sweat in them.
I want to go see the Muppet movie too. I'm going to attempt to talk the guys into the Thanksgiving day movie thing, which we've never done. I'm worried that seeing the movie will make me miss WDW even more though. I'm having major withdrawals. I'm trying to talk Frank into letting me skip Europe and just meeting him and Carsten and new wife on the east coast, just so I can get a Disney trip in there. How sad is that?

AFM: I ran 10 miles today and feel great!!!! I feel like I could do it again, although that's probably not very realistic. I have to run with Harrison this afternoon, but it's only 1.5 miles (I'm building his mileage up VERY slowly).

I have a friend coming over in a few and we're going out to lunch. I haven't seen her in a few months, so this should be fun. Then, tons of errands and getting ready for the week ahead. Another HUGE test in anatomy/physiology next Tuesday, so it's crunch time for studying. Plus, Harrison's big party is this weekend. I still need to figure out what to buy the child for his birthday. We got him a funny zombie shirt off of Woot, but I don't know what big present this year. He wants a laptop, but I'm not that generous.

Hi Team!

Vicky~ I'm all for a TT and a medal! I don't know if I am working or not, but I will find sometime to run that weekend. Thanks for contacting me on FB and now I'm looking forward to the trip even more!
Robert dressed as the blue Power Ranger named Dax. He was proud of his sewn in "muscles" that the costume provided!

Dave~ Glad that you had fun on your weekend get away! What about the Chi Town half interests you?

Sue~ A HALF IRONMAN!!??? Holy cow, very impressive! Liz wants to work her way up to one by 2014. I can barely swim...

Lynn~ I'm so glad that you and Scott had a great time on your trip and loved your postings on FB! How far away from Denver are you- timewise?

Emily~ Running in the cold isn't really that bad for me. The hard part is waiting around for a race to begin. Even if I warm up, I cool off and tighten up. The key to it, for me, is layering up. If you can, go to a resale store and find some clothes that you won't mind peeling off and leaving behind during the race as you warm up. In 2010 WDW collected over 26,000 pounds of clothes from the runners that were disgarded during the weekend race. All were washed and donated.

Tandy~ You are a Packers fan? We have to talk about this. I live in Bears country, and am also a huge Patriots fan! Liz is from the East coast.

AFM~ I decided to turn some music on while typing this, something I haven't done in a long time. I have a Sony cd player with several hundred discs in it~ what comes on but the Official WDW music. :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

I had a great time on Saturday at the Chicago Hot Chocolate 15k. It was great to have someone to travel with for a change. Rick went, along with Liz's friends Nancy and Yvonne. Liz had to work, but met us for lunch as we traveled home. I struggled during the race but finished in under a ten minute per mile pace, which is always my ultimate goal. I'll try and post a RR soon, maybe this weekend.
Stereo is now playing the older music from Illuminations...memories!

-Mike :cool2:

Happy Monday everyone!

Sue - I *occasionally* eat cookies for breakfast myself  Actually, I sometimes eat them before I run a short distance like a 5K. I guess that might explain the cramping LOL To be honest, I'm not all for the hour change. The extra hour of daylight in the morning is short lived ... I don't like going home in the dark at all.

Tandy - I wear socks too! Mostly because I wear them to work and it would be weird taking off the boots and having bare feet in the middle of winter! Sounds like you're going to have your hands full between the party and studying. Have you looked into netbooks? They're like mini laptops. I bought about a year and a half ago for less than $200. They're light and portable but don't have a lot of storage space - you'll need to get an external HD.

Tell Frank you'll be saving money on airfare because flying to Disney has to be cheaper than flying to Europe. Or... maybe you could do a side trip to Disneyland Paris while you're there :thumbsup2

Good job on the 10 miler! And that's awesome that you felt like you could keep going after that! Have fun on your afternoon run with Harrison! You'll probably be running a 10 miler with him sometime next year!

Dave - 26lbs! You're going to be a bean pole! Glad to hear you didn't gain any weight on vacation! That's a victory for sure!

Kim - Pina coladas could be considered heavy lifting! LOL My PT use to have me do an exercise where I walked back and forth across the gym carrying weights. He called it the suitcase lift I think  So I'll bet you got in mini workouts here and there. Welcome back to the real world! Hope you don't have too much work to catch up on.

Mike - Congrats on your 15K! Did you get any hot chocolate powder in your goody bag or just hot chocolate at the end of the race! Can't wait to hear more about the race :) I remember the Power Rangers! Very cute!

Lynn - Glad you enjoyed the show! And WTG on the speedier pace during your walk! Do you have to be a DVC member to stay at Aulani?

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good morning y'all. I'm feeling like a new panda after that week of rest. Today is going to be a 4 mile tempo walk and then a day of work.

Hard to believe it's less than 2 months now till the Disney trip, I look at that as the real start to my year. I've been starting my year with the Mouse since 2006

How is everyone else doing? Mike and Eva I know you guys are ready to kick some Goofy butt. Vicky with your busy schedule are you feeling ready?

I'm loving this time change because it's warmer now training after the sun comes up than it was before it comes up.

It's election day here and time to elect a new governor.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - No, you do not have to be a DVC member to stay at Aulani, however, like all DVC properties, if you are paying cash, the rooms are very pricey!

Dave - Glad your workout went well - What did I tell you about doing better after a short break?

Mike - We are about 1 1/2 hours from the Denver airport, and 2 hours from downtown Denver (where we go for shows). As long as the roads are good, it is not a bad ride - interstate the whole way.

Tandy - Scott is still feeling his cold. Good luck coming up with a birthday present for Harrison and good luck on your anatomy/physiology test.

Elizabeth - Happy Belated Birthday, hope you had a great day!

Sue - We will be at Aulani the 2nd week of Jan.

AFM - Did not get outside yesterday, so dogs missed their walk - snow was forecast but never happened, but it was still cold. I did get on the spin bike for 45 min. It is supposed to warm up throughout the week - back to seasonal temps by Friday, then cooling off again. If this keeps up, it will be a very cold fall season!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

This morning's 4 mile tempo walk was wonderful, the God that watches over us adult athletes decided I shouldn't time my training walk so I was blessed with a senior moment and forgot my watch. It was an awesome effort, there's something powerful about being the first car in the lot at the park and walking as the sun is coming up. I felt strong and concentrated on hip and arm balance as well as foot placement. Then later in the walk as I got into the hills I just went with the joy of being in motion.

Yep Lynn, you were wise as usual.

Dave:hippie:

Hi team!

Lynn - I went to the Aulani site and yikes! :scared1: Is that just general Hawaii prices or because it's the newest Disney resort? Honolulu is on my to-do marathon list so I think I'd better start saving now! When you don't get to walk the dogs because of the weather, do you just let them out in the backyard?

Dave - My schedule is better now that all the work craziness is done with. I got in a LR of 14 miles last weekend so this weekend will be 15-16 on Saturday and 7-8 on Sunday. I was thinking about doing a 16 miler this morning and was thinking how close I am to a 20 mile training run. Much different than training for January this year where I was only able to run 14 miles last year. Glad your 4 miler went well this morning!

AFM - I booked a mani/pedi after work because I just wanted some me time :cutie: I meant to get out this morning for a 3 miler but the little voice inside my head said I should get more sleep. It's not completely wrong because I usually do get about 6 hours of sleep a night and I should be getting more. Wednesday is usually a rest day for me but I'll do the miles then.

I'm also debating staying an extra day in January but haven't decided yet ... how long is everyone staying for?

Good Afternoon Team!

Just get signed on and now I need to do work.

Elizabeth, Happy Birthday! Hope you had a fantastic day.

Have a great evening............Sue

Hello team!

Sue - Yes, this is my 1st year running DW. I'm planning on wearing throwaways. I'm concerned about during the race, too. I don't want to be over or underdressed and be miserable for 13 miles. I guess layers will be the way to go.

Lynn - Thanks for the tips. Since it doesn't get really cold here it's hard to try out winter gear. So, I'm trying to figure out what layers do I need to add at what temps. I did a run this weekend when the temps were in the mid-to-upper forties which was a good test. I added a windbreaker-type jacket and gloves to my usual short-sleeved shirt and capris. I felt pretty good but would have liked to have a headband to cover my ears. Aulani and a cruise on the Dream sound fun. I hope to do both someday.

Vicky - Nope, we are the only family in SoCal. I get along with my in-laws pretty well, it's just that I know I'm already going to be stressed about the race. This is the first time they have visited us since we moved to SoCal, so my DH is exicted they are coming out. Your cupcakes sound yummy. I love lemon flavored treats. WTG on your 14 miler!

Tandy - We're having some friends over for Thanksgiving. I'll probably go out on Black Friday. I'm not a big shopper, but it's fun if I can find good deals.

Kim - Welcome back. Glad you had a great trip.

Elizabeth - Happy Birthday!

AFM - We did a 9.5 mile run on Saturday morning. Left the house at 530am so we could run at our usual spot before it got closed for an event. It was in the forties during our run and while I had a runny nose I didn't feel congested so I was happy about that. For me the run went well. DH's knee started to hurt about two-thirds through so he mostly walked the rest.

His knee has been bothering him off and on. He finally went to the doctor a few weeks ago and the doctor prescribed physical therapy. He's at his third session right now.

We did a short run last night. My stomach was hurting so we didn't do go as far as planned.

We went to a friends' place for dinner on Sunday. They just had a baby a few months ago and he is really cute.

Have a great night!
Emily

This morning is my group training walk, that has been the cornerstone of my training program. The 6.5 mile hilly course done at close to race pace is great for building stronger pandas. That fills the bill for keeping me sane the rest of the week as well. Today will be sporty since I get to work 11 hours at the store as soon as I get done.

The Wednesday morning training mentioned above, a couple of 4 mile tempo walks and an interval training on Monday are the main part of my training plan. I usually add a few miles easy on a fifth training day to complete the week. That gives me about 20 to 25 miles a week, every week.

Next week I'm doing a 9 miler in there some where and the next week a 10 miler.

Dave:hippie:

Happy Wednesday, everyone,

Sorry to drop back out after 1 message last week. My mom experienced more heart issues so I was caring for her. She is back to normal and so I am back to the boards :)

Thanks for the birthday wishes! I celebrated with a new pair of running shoes. I really have to step up my training. With my mother sick, my training dropped down to quick 30-minute runs just to stay in the habit. Hope to do a longer run tonight and then get back to normal this weekend.

I did a quick scan and it looks as though everyone is doing okay. :thumbsup2

Good morning team. I hope everyone is having a great week so far.

Elizabeth: Don't worry about that training. Taking care of your mom is important. I'm glad she's doing better. One of my favorite presents is new running shoes! What kind did you get?

Dave: Sounds like a nice, steady training plan you have going. Hope today's walk goes well.

Emily: I hope your hubby can get that knee better soon. Don't worry about the weather in DW. You'll get it figured out. I obsessed for a month or two before. This year, it was perfect weather at around 50-55 degrees. I wore shorts one day and a runninig skirt the other, singlet, arm warmers, throw away jacket/long sleeved shirt and a cap. I was fine and out of my long sleeved shirt within a mile or two. I am a person that hates the cold, but I like it a little cold when I run. I ran with Vicky and she kept her jacket on a bit longer, but eventually tossed it.
I think I may brave black Friday this year. I need to get my hubby a new laptop, and that may make it worth it. But I'm scared!

Sue: Don't work too hard! :)

Lynn: I hope you don't get that snow for awhile. While I love the snow, it makes it hard to train. And being indoors gets really boring. I am sure Aulani will be AMAZING! How long will you be staying? That is my favorite time of year to travel, because nothing's crowded. Because of my silly school, I have to travel during busy season now. But, at least I can still travel, right?

Vicky: How's your training going? I hope you enjoyed that mani/pedi. I got a pedi the day before Halloween and got spiders put on my toes. I can't take them off because it seems like a waste of a good pedicure. But, they're kind of ugly now. I think you should definitely stay an extra day in January. Once you're there, and have paid the big expense of airfare, it's just another day at the resort. Another day added to your ticket is about $4, so that's nothing. :thumbsup2 In case you didn't know, I'm a Disney pusher.

Mike: Glad you had such a nice time at your race. It's cool that you and Rick live so close to each other. Yes, I am a die hard Packer's fan. I have been since before Favre. My dad is from Chicago and a huge Bears fan, so it's a fun family rivalry. I do have to admit that, when it's not the Packers, I secretly root for the Bears. Shhhh! But, your other team, not so much. I dislike the Patriots a lot. Something about a dynasty team and all the hoopla that goes with it. How bout those Lions this year? Where did they come from?

AFM: I have 4 miles scheduled today and am just waiting for all the moms to finish driving their kids to school before I head out (we have some crazy traffic issues in my neighborhood). I went to zumba Monday, after the 10 miles, and am hoping to go again tonight. I am kind of worried that that might push it, but I'm learning how to take it easy when I need to. I just got back from the grocery store. Had to stock up for Harrison's party. I am not a fan of junk food, but they are having hot dogs and smores one night, pizza the other, chips, cake and ice cream, punch, pancakes and cereal. How horrible is that? :scared1: It's just that it's not easy to feed 6 kids for 2 full days, so I'm going the cheap route. :thumbsup2

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.
