Hakuna Matada - Chilly November

Your just perfectly Goofy Robert.

Mike, I'm working on our tour director to do the Chi Town half.

Vicky, not sure where Kim is hiding out I haven't seen her on facebook either.

Lynn, you let Scott travel in that goofy hat? Or did you wear a button that said I'm not with him? I saw the picture he posted.

I'm headed to Gatlinburg tonight after work and will not return till Sunday, not sure if we will have internet service at the hotel there.

Have a great weekend and y'all stay out of trouble.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Work & life have been crazy busy. Finished a major work project last week.
Hoping for a little quite time before the next project starts and being able to get back to posting more often.

Dave, Happy Anniversary. Enjoy your weekend getaway.

Tandy, Nice grades/ test scores!

Regina, I also have a friend who swears by Oil of Oreg. Just be careful.
She thought more was better than less and burnt the underside of her tongue.

Lynn, Glad to hear you had a great trip. Did you have much snow to shovel?

Vicky, I had come to terms with not running in January until you posted the program. Now I'm jealous.

Nothing exciting to report but did make a huge commitment to next year.
DH and I have signed up for a 1/2 Ironman. It will be his 2nd and my 1st.

It sounds like everyones training is going well.
PD to all with colds/ sore throats...............Sue

Yay for Thursday - mostly because the weekend is almost here but also because it's pay day

Sue - That's awesome that you're doing an Ironman half! Will you be together with DH during the race or are you each going for time? Where is the race?

Dave - We'll have to send out a search party for Kim! I don't race too well on a stomach of meat so I will have to look at the menu for 'Ohana. Thanks so much for thinking of me  Have a safe trip this weekend and happy anniversary to you and Sally!

Robert - :wave2:

Eva - You mean you don't run sub 9 m/m all the time? ;) I once ran through a couple Red Rover style  I was thinking they were going to move instead they just stopped where they were on the sidewalk and I was going a bit fast to stop. I yelled a sorry over my shoulder but I'm sure they weren't very happy.

Mike - Yay! I sent you a PM on FB so we can work out the details. I love The Yachtsman! Ok, I just love steak :) I have eaten a few too many Halloween treats this week myself. Not as much as I usually would but enough to get that "ugh!" feeling. What did Robert dress up as this year?

AFM - I was suppose to go for a massage after work this evening but the RMT just called a few minutes ago to say he couldn't make it. D'oh! :( Kind of sucks because I cancelled a training session to go. Oh well, I suppose I have no excuse to go out for my run after work now. I'm also planning on making some butter pecan cookies as well. I'm missing one ingredient but I think (hope  ) They'll turn out anyway.

This weekend, I have a LR of 13-14 miles which I'll need to get done on Saturday. Sunday I'm meeting my chiro for brunch and then I'm going to a friend's house and she's going to show me how to decorate cookies with royal icing! I'm excited!

Don't forget about the time change on Sunday! Enjoy the extra hour of sleep :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hey team. Hope everyone's doing well.

Vicky: What's royal icing? It's so cool how much you enjoy baking. I'm really glad the classes are going so well. Sorry about the massage. I'm sure it was very much needed. Good luck on that LR this weekend.
I agree with Sue. I was fine about not doing Goofy until you posted the link!
I hate sidewalk hogs. In fact, a few times I have held my line even knowing we would hit. I've only done this when I was alone and people would walk 2 or 3 across. I am supposed to have half the sidewalk, but will just take enough room to run please. Of course, I divert at the last second, but it's kind of fun to see the fear on their faces. ;)

Sue: Congrats on signing for your first 1/2 Ironman. Have you ever done tris? I have this image in my head of someday doing the Ironman in Hawaii, but it'll probably never happen.

Dave: Have a fantastic time on your anniversary trip. I find that area of the country to be amazingly beautiful. If I hadn't been raised in the Rockies, I'd say that those mountains are the prettiest. But, I have to be loyal to my home state.

Eva: Unless I run super early in the a.m., I have to deal with people pulling up over the crosswalk all the time. I never know if I should trust them to run in front of them, or run behind them between them and the other car. It's frustrating. I wasn't a good student either when I was of college age. Now that I'm in my 40s, I'm settled down a bit. ;)

Mike: Arkansas is really beautiful. I think you'll enjoy running there. Of course, Little rock isn't pretty, but most cities aren't. I looked at it for a second, just because I'd like to go to Hot Springs afterward, and might be able to justify the trip if I ran, but no. I have my ultra 3 weeks later, and should be starting my taper then.

AFM: I am mentally drained. School is getting super tough. Luckily, we only have 5 weeks left of this semester, which means only 10 classes left. I get a whole month off between semesters, and then, my toughest one yet is next semester. I didn't get to run since Monday and can't wait to get out there tomorrow. I'm going to try for 4-6. Then, Harrison and I have 2.5 on Saturday. I will take Sunday off and try for my 10 on Monday.
My new boots came in yesterday, so I got to wear those to school today. So, even though I can't think anymore, at least I was warm and comfy.

Yo! It's a hot chocolate kinda night in my office... :surfweb:

Sue - OMG you are doing a half Ironman?!?! Now you can get one of those stickers for your car that says 70.3!!!! So fricken awesome!!!

Vivky - Royal icing...is that the stuff that is on the wedding cakes? Will you learn to make those pretty flowers? And no I have a hard time sub-9. Today I ran tempo/mile repeats and my first was 8:45 and I was pushing it! I did manage an 8:14 for my last one, but I about lost my breakfast! How's the ankle doing?? I thought of you on Saturday while I was watching the "skycam" thing of MCM. Are you glad you deferred?

Tandy - New boots are always fun! They are snow type boots? My mom loves her Uggs, but I just can't fork over that kind of money for boots. Target boots are good for me :thumbsup2

Dave - I agree that Scott's yeti hat was goofy, but it's also AWESOME!!

Alright folks...nothing new my way. Gonna take a day off tomorrow and just do core. I have a 10 miler on Saturday and a 20 miler on Sunday :scared1: After this long run I only have 3 more on the plan...22, 24 and hopefully a 26 before I taper. Seems like it's so long to run for training, but I like the thought of having that under my belt too. I won't be too upset if I cut those long ones back though. How's everyone else doing with LR's?

Eva: Yes, I got Uggs. But, I got them on a very serious sale. I would NEVER pay full price for those puppies. I also got a pair of fake Uggs. I like them both. Yikes, 30 miles this weekend. I remember those long run back to backs. By Sunday afternoon, you'll feel like you can accomplish anything. I had planned a back to back high of 10/24 before Goofy, but only managed a 10/21. I felt very ill prepared, but managed just fine. Of course on race day, at mile 22, I thought I was going to die, but by mile 23, I got that runner's high 2nd wind, and got it done. It's pretty amazing that you guys only have 2 months left.

Hi Team!

Dave- I hope you’re having a great time in Gatlinburg!!!

Tandy- Hope Zumba went well yesterday. Glad you like your boots! Where did you find Uggs on sale?! Have a great run tomorrow. Hang in there- those 10 classes will fly by and be over before you know it!

Vicky- If we do a Turkey Trot I would be up for a 5k or 10k. I haven’t tried Oil of Oregano before. What is it supposed to do? I can’t stand sidewalk hogs. They drive me crazy. I find it rude they can’t share the space. Did you go for a pedi? Have fun at lunch with Sue tomorrow! I can’t believe the weekend program is already up!! Hope your cookies turned out yummy. Bummer your massage got cancelled. Let me know how the royal icing goes! Sounds like a lot of fun!

Mike- Have fun planning your trip to Little Rock in March! How long will you be staying? Great job getting out for 2 miles today.

Eva- I hope the neti pot and gargling work for you. I’ve heard good things about the neti pot. I also take Zicam when I start getting sick. Yum to the hot chocolate! Good luck on your long runs this weekend.

Robert- Glad you’re keeping busy!

Sue- Wow, thanks for the heads up on the Oil or Oreg! That is definitely good to know. Congrats on signing up for the Ironman half. That is awesome!! When is it?

AFM, I’m feeling much better today than I was yesterday. I ran 3 miles and it went pretty well. Hopefully I’ll be feeling even better tomorrow and good to go for my runs this weekend!

Have a great weekend team!

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - If you make the Turkey Trot a 5K then Scott and I might be able to join in - or we could just substitute a long bike ride? (wishing the weather would warm up a bit so we could get back out on the bikes - inside on the spin bike is just not the same!) Yes, we do get annoyed with sidewalk hogs!!!

Kim - Hi!

Dave - Hope your sore throat does not develop into a cold, Scott and I both came back with sore throats, his has gotten worse, mine has stayed dormant. Malamutes are very people friendly in most cases, yes, they often look like they are smiling. Have fun in the mountains! I am immune to Scott’s crazyness! Actually, he did not put on the hat until we got outside the Denver airport - but he has a whole collection of that kind of hat!

Eva - Smart dogs, that is sometimes scary!!! Our youngest - the problem child that I neglected to socialize as a puppy - is the smartest malamute we have had - as I said - scary!

Mike - You might try a little cross training, you have been running so much you might be burning out on it, usually, all it takes is a short break from it to put you back into form!

Regina - Glad to hear you are feeling better!

Tandy - Malamutes and Huskys do have temperments that do not relate to everyone. (As do most of the “cold climate” breeds). You said you were raised in the Rockies, so what is your “home state”? Pixie Dust for getting thru your last 10 classes!

Sue - We did not have to shovel much snow, there was one drift across the driveway, but our jeep could easily plow thru it. We did clean off the walks and the back porch so the dogs would not track as much snow into the house. After the heat wave (50 degrees) today, most of the snow should be gone except the deeper drifts. Good luck with the Ironman!

AFM - It is good to be back to my regular computer and having Pages to write in before posting! The trip back from Denver was not bad, roads open by the time we landed. Gained 2 pounds on the trip (not bad for all the Halloween candy we ate after the MNSSHP). So, I think that is another week of no points, with weight gain cancelling out the points I would have gotten for exercise and water and vitamins. Yesterday, I got the dogs out for their walk, then spent 30 min on the spin bike and 30 min doing weights. Now that we will be home for 2 months, I need to get back on a regular schedule.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

:cheer2: Weekend Racers :cheer2:

Good luck to Mike and Rick this weekend! Can't wait to hear about the race :)

November
5 - Chicago Hot Chocolate 15k, Chicago, IL - Mike & Rick

Argh! I just did a post and I think it's been eaten by IE - I'm waiting for a bit to see if it comes back up ...

In the meantime ... Happy Friday! :thumbsup2

I'll start a head count for the Turkey Trot. I'm going to say it can be any distance you want and it can be whatever you want - biking, walking, running, swimming ... anything you like :) So far we have:

Regina
Scott
Lynn
Vicky
Emily
Rick
Eva
Mike
Tandy & Harrison

Let me know ASAP so I can see about getting us medals. I want to try and find a place that doesn't have minimum orders.

Hello team!

Dave - My name Pudge The Fish comes from the Disney movie Lilo and Stitch. On sandwich day, Lilo always brings Pudge the Fish a peanut butter sandwich. I love the movie and the sandwich story is one of my favorite parts, hence my team name. Happy Anniversary!

Tandy - Good luck on your class, you can do it!

Vicky - We have to deal with sidewalk hogs all the time and it's so annoying. The only way to get around them is to run into the road. So, it can be a challenge sometimes to dodge the bikes, cars, and other pedestrians.

I'm up for a turkey trot, a 5k is fine with me. Thursday is usually a run day of us, so I'll probably just work it into our training run.

Also, we signed up for a 5k. Please add the Holiday 5k on December 10 to the list. Thanks!

Elizabeth - Pixie dust for your mom!

Lynn - Glad you had a great trip!

Regina - I have had my phone for at least 2 years, so I could upgrade if I want. I have an iPod Touch which has been good for travelling and playing Angry Birds :) The drawback to it is that you can't get free WiFi everywhere. Hope you are feeling better!

AFM - Not too much going on here. My training has been going ok. I've been in a funk lately. I'm not really motivated to go running and just want to get the WDW half over with.

We still need to figure out our plans for January and buy our airfare. Mini vent - My inlaws decided they're coming out for New Year's and their trip is overlapping our plans to leave for WDW. I usualy get anxoius leading up to a trip/race so I'm not looking forward to the added stress of having houseguests.

How does every deal with running in the cold? The coldest weather I might run in over the next 2 months is temps in the 50s. So, I'm worried about it being much colder for the WDW half. When I run in the cold I tend to get a runny nose and congested. Does this happen to anyone else? Any tips?

Have a great day!

Emily

I'll start a head count for the Turkey Trot. I'm going to say it can be any distance you want and it can be whatever you want - biking, walking, running, swimming ... anything you like :)

So I have a 5K race scheduled for Thanksgiving Day. Can I count that race for this too? :woohoo:

Happy Friday team! Phew I got my post back! I had a 'not responding' pop up from IE but I figured if I left it long enough, it would resolve :)

Regina - I didn't have time to refrigerate the cookies so there was a lot of "spread". Basically that means the cookie is flatter and crispier instead of taller and chewier. I prefer flat cookies but I know a lot of people like it the other way around so next time I'll make 'em ahead of time. WTG on your 3 miler! Oil of Oregano is suppose to kill bacteria so it's supposedly good as cold prevention. It has a peppery taste to it so I usually put a drop into orange juice and take it that way. Good luck on your LR this weekend!

Tandy - I was going to ask if the new boots were Ugg replacements. And why didn't you tell us about this sale LOL Which pair did you end up getting? I bought a pair of Hunter boots because my Ugg boots got waterlogged last year. You can buy fleece liners for the Hunters and they're supposedly warm. You're not suppose to take them out in weather cooler than 23F but I've seen people do it last winter. Is it cold in KS already? This morning we had a bit of frost on the ground but it's still sunny.

I'll bet you get in an Ironman sometime! I asked my buddy about Ironman Kona. I asked if he was ever going to do that one. He said Kona was a serious competition. Meaning that in order to compete there, you had to have placed in the top three in your age category. I'll bet you can do it :) Have fun running with Harrison this weekend!

Eva - I have tried to make those flowers a few times. Let's just say they don't look like flowers  ... yet! - I need to make some frosting and sit down on weekend and just practice making different shapes. Royal icing is a frosting that hardens - the stuff on wedding cakes is usually fondant or buttercream. I think you can use royal icing to make flowers that sit on top of the buttercream or fondant. But you can also make them from sugar or gum paste. My LR this weekend is most likely a 14 miler. I sort of have a 30K from back in August  I asked Coach Charles last year and he said that was fine for finishing the marathon. LOL Seriously, I do plan on a 20 miler but probably not for another few weeks. I don't think I'm going to get up to 26... I'm just going to try and keep the ankle and knees healthy. And yes, after reading about the snow last weekend, I was quite glad I deferred MCM!

And WTG on the tempo runs! I can only go that fast on an all out sprint and not for very long either! Good luck on the 20 miler!! Let us know how it goes!

Emily - I didn't know that the fish from Lilo and Stitch had a name! I use to have a squirrel that came by my back yard. I fed him PB sandwiches :rolleyes1 (I know you're not suppose to feed wildlife). He'd only come by before a snowstorm so I called him the weather squirrel. I run on the road too - well residential roads. The drivers here are use to runners on the road so they're pretty good for the most part.

Lynn - Sounds like you and Scott got quite the haul from MNSSHP! I like those coconut/peanut butter candies they give out - I can't remember the name for the life of me. I read somewhere that you can gain water weight from flying (I forget the reason why). With all the exercise you and Scott do, it will be gone in no time at all :thumbsup2

Rick - Absolutely it counts! I will add your name to the list! Good luck on your race this weekend!

AFM - Ok, royal icing is a hard icing made from egg whites, sugar, meringue, glyercin and some other stuff I can't think of right now :) It's basically used for cookies ... They look like this:

http://www.cakejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/mosaic6758393.jpg

I have my class tonight and we're suppose to make rugelach (a Jewish cookie) and sugar cookies. I brought some of my Mickey themed cookie cutters - so I have a Mickey head and a glove and some other cute ones my co-worker lent me (squirrel, leaf, gingerbread man).

Last night I went out for a 5 miler. I thought I was going "fast" but it turns out I was quite slow. I finished in just over 59 minutes  But I was happy the rain held off and the run was pain free.

And I have even more good news! The scale finally moved down another 2.4 lbs and I'm back in the 130s... just barely but I'm there and seeing the 139 on the scale will keep me motivated. I was even quite good at lunch I think - I got a grilled chicken sandwich on whole wheat with avocado salsa and a side salad. I got to have lunch with Sue near her office. Yay! It's always fun to catch up!

Ok I have to get back to work! Everyone have a great weekend in case I don't have a chance to post again :wave2:

Vicky: I'm in for a 10k. I may make it a 5k and take Harrison with me. Just what he wants to do on Thanksgiving!
They are the Classic Cardies. I wanted purple boots, and they looked warm, yet not too warm, so why not? I think the Hunter's will be great if you get the liner. Yes, it's cold enough for me to feel the need for boots. Only because I'm a big wussy when it comes to the cold. Something about growing up in the mountains, I guess.
Congrats on getting back into the 130s!!!! Great job. I am struggling, but will get there. Now I know what that icing is. I love soft, whipped creamy type icings, but also love that kind. How did the lesson go?

Emily: Sorry about the inlaws and the lack of motivation. Running motivation goes in waves for me. I get excited when I make the decision for a race and then, at the beginning of the training. Then, it just becomes drudgery. Then, as it gets close to the race, I get excited again. So, I hope that's the case for you. I always get a runny nose when I run. Really bad. I carry an old fashioned hankie with me, made out of cloth, instead of tissues. I just literally carry it in one hand every single time I run. My lungs can sometimes feel like they're burning if it's really cold, but otherwise, I actually prefer 50 or below. I run better.

Lynn: Thanks for the pixiedust:. I'm going to need it.
I grew up in Crested Butte and Gunnison Colorado. Don't know if you've ever heard of them. Crested Butte is just south of Aspen. It was a great place to grow up, and if I could ever afford to live there, I'd think of moving back. I only ended up in Kansas because I came to visit my dad after I graduated high school and I fell in love. I'm happy to be married to my midwest loving husband, but don't enjoy this area at all. A 2 pound gain while at WDW is like a loss. I'm impressed!

Regina: I got the boots at Zappos.com. Didn't even know any place ever sold Uggs on sale. I went shopping again today. Gonna have to watch myself. I'm glad you're feeling better. Hope your runs this weekend go well.

AFM: I got a 4 miler in this morning. Am still really unhappy with my time. I am averaging 8:15s and, while I know that's fast, I'm used to being in the 7s for short runs of 5 miles or less. I just don't feel like my calf is going to loosen up. I just have to keep reminding myself that at least I'm running.

Went shopping after my run and bought the cutest dress and a couple of sweaters. I was supposed to be picking up Harrison's new desk and a sweater for Frank, but couldn't help myself. :confused3 I have a slight addiction, what can I say?

I've been rearranging my schedule for next semester. I still need to do some tweaking. A part of me wants to take it a little easy since I'm starting to feel that burnout. Another part of me wants to hit it super hard and get it done. I guess I'll see how the family feels about it. They're the ones most affected by me going back to school.

So, what's everyone doing for Thanksgiving (besides running)? We are probably just having a small get together. I mostly just want to watch my Packers beat the Lions, and eat some dessert. The others in my family seem to need actual food though. I'll cook something turkey related, I'm sure.

Good Afternoon Team!

I always have such a hard time posting from work.
Trying something new by cutting and pasting from Notes.

Met up with Vicky for lunch. She is trying to make me fat(ter).
She brought me some of her delicious cookies (toffee/ pecan)

Vicky, I’m a flatter crunchier type. Loved them. I’m enjoying them at my
desk with a tea.

Mike/ Rick, Enjoy your race this weekend!

Emily, Is this the 1st year for running DW? Are you concerned about staying warm the morning of the race? Stay warm before the race by wearing throwaways like an old sweatshirt/ fleece over your running gear. Just take them off and throwaway while waiting in the starting corral. Old sock over the hands work great and just toss when you have warmed up.

Tandy, Never done a tri before only a couple of dus. My race isn't until next Sept. Will do a couple of shorter training tris in late spring.
The closest I will ever come to Kona is watching it on tv.

Lynn, What is your next travel adventure? Do you have a cruise booked for January? We just got back from RC's Allure of the Seas.

Regina, Glad to hear you are feeling better.

Have a great weekend and hope everyone's training runs go well.......Sue

Just a quick pop in before I do my 10 miles....

I also want in for the Turkey Trot. IF I get the day off from work I'll be doing our Cleveland trot that is 5 miles. I won't register until I know if I'm working or not and I won't know that until about 4 days out. I trying to get Jordan to do it too...lol! Good luck with that, huh?!?

OK folks...off to get dressed and eat....off into the very cold darkness for an slow and easy 10 walk/run!!

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - I usually gain more weight when I get home, because I do not stop eating right away, and I am not doing as much activity. I have to force myself to stop eating so much when I get home! So far, I have not gained any more, but I have not lost it either. Good job on getting into the 130’s!

Eva - Hope you had a good 10 miles!

Mike - Good luck on your race!

Tandy - I was guessing Colorado. Yes, I have heard of both, I have been in Wyoming long enough to be familiar with at least northern Colorado.

Emily - I do like how you picked your screen name! Running in cold weather - we have “winter running gear” which includes fleece lined tights, fleece lined shirts, layer, layer, layer!!!! I switch to wool socks, and my “winter walking shoes” are a size larger so that I can wear thicker socks with them. Don’t forget hat and gloves! I do remember at WDW when it was 27 degrees and snowing before the 1/2, folks gave us a hard time because we “should be used to this weather”, our response was “we did not bring our winter running gear, we did not expect snow in Florida!”

Sue - Next travel adventure is in Jan, a cruise on the Dream and a short stay at Aulani in Hawaii. We will actually be home for 2 months straight!

Rick - Good luck on your race!

AFM - It was finally nice enough to take the bikes out yesterday, we just did a short ride - 5.8 miles, as Scott was still suffering from his cold. I did have problems being out of breath, might have been I have not adjusted to high altitude yet - it usually takes me several days to a week to become comfortable with the altitude after a trip to sea level. Dogs got their walk also.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hey guys, just a quick hi from my phone. We are having a good time in the smoky mountains. Got to see bears yesterday. Eating to much good food but doing a lot of walking. We are off to visit the outlet stores now.

Dave

Hi everyone I am back. Sorry no time to catch up on the posts but hope everyone is doing great!!!

We had a great trip, only rainned the Friday morning I was leaving disney to go to Miami and it wasn't raining once we left disney.

Lynn: Sorry we didn't manage to hook up, I got your last text message and my phone died and couldn't find my charger until we where packing up Friday morning to head to Miami.

Time to get serious about trainning Mike and I did a lot of walking while away took the stairs on the ship all the time and I checked the scale this morning and no weight gain on a 2 week vacation I was quite happy with that.

Hope to catch up with everyone today but off to pay bills and do laundry.

Kim

Good Morning Team!

Kim - great on no weight gain!

Dave - glad you are enjoying the mountains!

AFM - another nice day yesterday and got out on bikes again for about 30 min, then dog walk for 23 min. Today we are headed to Denver for the Lion King - we have had the tickets for over a year! It was Scott's BD present last year! So, no exercise today.

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!
