:simba: Hakuna Matata Team Bios :simba:

Windwalker, aka Dave aka Panda- I'm 60 and live in a small town in Kentucky. I don't run I walk, race walk actually. I have qualified for another shot at the National Senior Olympics. Married to Sally.

es45 aka Elizabeth- I'm 42 and married with 2 young daughters. I ran my first 13.1 in the 2011 Princess Half.

Pudge The Fish, aka Emily- My DH and I will be doing the DL half in Sept. This will be our first half marathon. I still consider myself new to running, though I've done 2 5k (including the 2009 DL 5k) and one 10k.

Villians_Rock, aka Eva – I am 31 years old, married to Jordan (proud WISH supporter) and have just recently had our first baby, Gage. We currently live near Cleveland, OH. I'm a full time staffing coordinator for Continental Airlines and my hubby sells Harley Davidsons. I ran my first race in 2007 and have since ran 5Ks, 10Ks, one half marathon and completed the Disney Full Marathon in 2009. Before the baby, I was most comfortable running and training at a half marathon distance.

GirltheGecko aka Hope- I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. When I was a teenager, I was heavily into martial arts, unfortunately due to school and time, I had to quit. I met Nick, moved to NH, and I gained some weight. I watched my mother struggle with obesity all her life, so Nick's family and I decided to work at trying for a half marathon at WDW.

flipflopmom, aka Taryn – I will be 35 on Sept. 5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher, working on my master's degree in my "spare” time. Married for 12 years, have 2 girls. Oldest is 10, and a competitive gymnast. Her gym is 45 minutes away, so I spend a lot of time on the road. Youngest is 3, and a tons of fun! I haven't run a race yet, but looking for a 5K.

LynnG, aka Lynn, (of Lynn and Scott)- 60 years old, retired, we are both Disneyholics. We have been members of DVC since it started. I am a walker, I used to try to run, but knee surgery last August which I am still trying to recover from, I only walk now. I have done several half marathons, mostly Disney ones. I have 2 malamutes that are my walking companions at home.

MaryJ aka Mary- I am 53 years old, and live in a small town in Southwestern Indiana. I will be married to DH (Ken) for 34 years in July. We have 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. I walk/run my races. I did my first big race (WDW Half) when I was 52. Before that I had done only a few 5K's, mostly walking.

Motomiker, aka Mike – I have lived in and around Lake in the Hills Illinois. I have worked in the grocery business for almost 20 years. Married in 2008 to my wife (Liz). One son (Robert), working on baby number two. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2009 and had surgery. I am still cancer free! My other interests are varied: Disney nut, Disney pins collector, love movies (mostly Sci-fi), scrapbooking, travel, a New England Patriots fan, and 5ks . I did my first adventure race recently, and am planning some more.

Nikkilala, aka Nikki- Married to Ryan at WDW in 2007. Currently a Physical Therapist Assistant student graduating in 2012. Is a wogger (walker with a little jogging mixed in) Lives in South West Michigan where she was born and raised! Loves Disney and will do anything for an excuse to travel there, including a half marathon

Saylan – I'm from the frosty north of Canada. I'm very new to running (officially started October 14, 2010). I'm training for the Disney Princess 1/2 and it'll be my first official marathon of any length. I'm a Disney addict (been 16 times). I figured if anything can motivate me to run it would be Disney. I live with my partner (and Disney virgin) and a demon of a cat.

piglet24, aka Regina- I grew up in Idaho and married my “birthday buddy”, Kyle, in 2006. I started running to help manage some stress about a year and a half ago, and have continued because I enjoy it. Of course, I love Disney and am always happy to have another reason to go!

DisneyGerry, aka Gerry - Lives in Celebration, FL, transplant from MD after numerous vacations to visit central FLA. Trying to kick up my race schedule this year starting with the Disney Half in January. Play and work in the theme park corridor

bunnyfoo, aka Vicky - My name is Vicky and I live in Toronto, Canada. I started running back in 2008 so I could lose weight become more active. I wasn't into low carb diets but it seemed like a lot of runners had great abs AND they ate carbs. I thought "Hey I can do that!" :goodvibes I started as an indoor treadmill runner and eventually worked my way outside and signed up for my first race - the Minnie 15K. As they say, the rest is history! I have had my share of bumps, bruises and sprains but have had a lot of fun along the way and have met a lot of great people including everyone on Hakuna Matada! Three years later, running, working out and healthy eating have all become a part of my lifestyle. My other interests are movies, reading, road trips and baking!

I get to be the first to post, cool.

Hard to believe it's already November, where has this year gone. I'm so glad we are having some team stuff this time. I didn't get a chance to spend nearly enough time last January with Vicky and Kim. I also didn't get a chance to visit with Mike. I must admit though that last year was pretty much a blurrrrr. I was sick and untrained for the races and not really much into anything as much as just getting well and getting through it. This time is gonna be awesome, I will be able to talk, I will get to hug awesome ladies and I will be able to rock them races. Life is good.:cloud9:

I'm being very caucious about training safely so I don't get injured but still get back to where I was before the injuries, the emotional roller coster of divorce and sickness and start improving. I'm currently back to where I was in 2007 which was my best race walking year.

Vicky:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug: You have been wonderful keeping our team thread going and being the perfect leader and just being totally awesome.

Mike, :cool1:, you the man! You have been inspiring us all with your amazing improvement over the last year.

Tandy, so glad you have joined us.

Kim, you haven't been on for a while, I hope things are going good for you.

Lynn, I miss you awesome lady and your wild man hubby.

Piglet, can't wait to meet you.

Eva,:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:, I have enjoyed keeping up with you on here and facebook. You are a warrior and I know you will just rock that Goofy.

Elimy, what is the story behind your team name: Pudge the Fish?

Mary, Sally and I looking forward to seeing you again.

Elizabeth, I can't remember are you doing the Goofy this time?

Have an awesome day y'all I'm going to go upstairs now and pack for Gatlinburg.

Dave:hippie:

Happy November team. I can't believe it's here already. My baby will be 12 years old in less than 2 weeks! :sad1:

Dave: I'm wishing I could make it in January. It sounds like you guys are going to have a very nice time. What happened, if you don't mind my asking, between 07 and now (please feel free to say mind your own business)? Did you gain weight, stop running, personal stuff? I just assumed you have always been this super fast, super committed race walker, because I've only been on here a few months.

Regina: Wine weight doesn't count. Didn't you know that? ;) Mine is wine and beer, but I'm getting it back off as soon as possible. I'm glad you had so much fun on the wine tours. My hubby doesn't drink wine, so he wouldn't be interested, but I think it'd be fun to talk some friends into it. We have quite a few hidden here in the midwest.

Lynn: I'm so glad your vacation was great, but then, how could it not be? Disney and a birthday for Scott, come on. :)

So, I second Regina's vote for a team turkey trot. I'm assuming, since I wasn't on the team last year, that it's a run on Thanksgiving. I have one scheduled anyway, so would love to put an official title on it!

AFM: I am soooo close to an A in my anatomy/physiology class. I finally got my muscle test scores. I got a 99% on the lab part, but only an 80 on the written. We took a nerves test today and I only got 84. So, I have a month and a half left and need to kick some booty!
No run today, but we discussed the running addiction in anatomy and discussed the endorphin rush after hitting the wall. I'm the only runner, so I was their example. They were all shocked at the fact that I ran 39.3 miles. Kind of funny, since almost everyone on here has either done it or is planning it. I thought I was normal. :confused3

/
Tandy, some of the long time team members know all about it since I really don't have much family I've had to lean on them. 2007 was my best race year because I was training for the National Senior Olympics so I was training hard and well. Then in 2008 I just cruised through with a Goofy and a few halfs and a bunch of 5Ks but nothing serious. Then in 2009 I would have been training for the Senior games again but discovered that my wife of 25 years was having an online affair and left me and moved to New Jersery to be close to the married man she was having the affair with. Then in 2010 I had that horrid freezing Goofy and shortly after that had a bad planter faciouts injury that stopped by training all together for several months. I finally got better and trained enough for a 3rd place finish at state level and then caught the flu just before Disney and the Goofy. I did the Goofy with the flu and trashed my body real good doing that. It was April of this year before I was recovered enough to train again. I married again last November and bought a new house and car and all the other stuff you need when starting from scratch. Through it all I've tried to keep looking at the positive side of things and that has at times been a challenge. Well you asked!

Dave:hippie:

Hi Team!

Dave- It’s great to hear you’re feeling good about Goofy and looking forward to hanging out with us all in January! I think you have done an awesome job at being positive and making things happen this year!

Tandy- LOL, that is exactly what I told myself on Saturday! Good luck getting an A over the next month and a half! You can do it! If memory serves me correctly our Turkey Trot last year was a 5k run and could have been an actual race or part of a training run. It also needed to happen over the long Thanksgiving weekend. Vicky, if that is incorrect please correct me!

AFM, I woke up about 3 am this morning with a really sore throat. It feels like I could be getting the runny/stuffy nose and everything else that goes with a cold but so far the only other symptom I really have with the sore throat is being overly tired and not having a lot of energy. I still ran 4 miles on the TM today, but we will see how I am feeling tomorrow. I have a 13 mile run on Sunday and I really do not want to be too sick to run that. So I am going to think positive and refuse to let a virus take hold of me. :goodvibes

I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!

Good morning Team!

We are sitting at the airport in Orlando waiting for our flight to Denver - Scott is checking the road info, and right now we cannot drive to Cheyenne, hopefully the roads will be open by the time we get there.

Dave - malamutes are not famous for their friendliness to other dogs, but I had managed to socialize them to behave most of the time. With our last puppy, the daughter of our older dog, I neglected to socialize, so she is the problem child.

Have a great day all!

Lynn, that does surprise me. They are very pretty dogs and look like happy ones to. I bet they are spoiled rotten. Yes you and Scott move to Florida and invite Sally and I down. Can't wait for the next 8 years to pass so I can retire and we can do a trip or two together. You can teach us to be vagabonds to.

Group training today, it's cold so I'll be bundled up. We do 6.5 miles along the river and over the hills so it's an awesome training walk. I will have a couple of brothers who will be feeling their inner Rabbit today so it will be a fast one I'm sure.

I have a bit of a sore throat also but hoping it doesn't devbelop into more.

All packed and ready to leave for the Smokies on Thursday.

Dave:hippie:

Morning team.

Lynn: Malamutes are, indeed beautiful. I once owned a husky, but her temperament and mine didn't work well together. Sorry you have to head home to yuck after being in sunny Florida, but we all have to come back to reality some time, right? ;)

Dave: I'm sorry for your last marriage and your bad year of races. I read about that horrible marathon weekend in 2010. No thanks. Running Goofy with the flu is CRAZY!!!! I barely made it through healthy. I'm so happy that you found Sally and are getting a new start with everything. Sounds like you're in a really great place now. Have a fun, fast walk today!

Regina: Hope you're feeling okay. Take it easy on yourself. With the changing season and the training, it's easy to get sick.

AFM: No exercise yesterday, which was nice. I need to remember to take rest days. I have a 1.5 miler with Harrison and am going to add 2 for myself. Then, zumba class this evening!!! I love zumba and am so happy to be back at it. No homework, so it'll be a relaxing day today. Frank is off, but I'm volunteering at Harrison's school, so probably won't even see him.

I had an awesome 6.5 with my walkers this morning. It was a crisp 34 degrees so I bundled up. It's amazing how much easier it is to keep a fast pace when your having a good discussion with friends.

2 more work days then off to the mountains. If you have never been to Gatlinburg you can't imagine how hilly the town is and how great for walking and sight seeing. It's a good way to stay loose just wandering the city. I'm going to be excited to see if my pace increases after this break.

Have a magical day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Hi team!

I must have missed the post on the Turkey Trot. Sorry about that. Last year, it was organized by Connie and Margie but I'm definitely open to doing one this year! US Thanksgiving is on November 24? I'm not good at graphics but I can make arrangements for medals if anyone is interested. What kind of distance does everyone want to do? 5K, 10K, 15K or just make it part of a training run?

Dave - Thanks! What a year it has been indeed! I'm so glad everything is working out for you and you're back on track with training and you've had a wonderful year with Sally! Stay warm on your group walk this morning! pixiedust: for your sore throat! Hope it goes away in time for your getaway!

Tandy - Congrats on the 99%! That's awesome!! I remember watching this show on "strange" addictions and one of the people they featured was addicted to running. He'd run 20-30 miles a day but he'd split it into two runs a day and that was pretty much his whole life - running and racing. I can't imagine doing that - mostly because my knee would probably give out at some point  Did you bring your Disney medals into class? Have fun at zumba tonight!

Regina - pixiedust: Hope you're feeling better in time for your LR. Have you tried Oil of Oregano before? I know some people who swear by it. If you do try it, take it with orange juice because it's a little ... "peppery". Like Tandy says - make sure you're getting lots of rest!

Lynn - Safe travels! I'll bet your pups will be happy to see you and Scott and the snow too! Can't wait to hear about your adventures in WDW.

Kim - Are you back from your cruise?

AFM - I went out for a 3 miler last night and it was nice and cool but still warm enough to go without a jacket. Does anyone else get annoyed with sidewalk hogs? You know when you have two people who are walking on the sidewalk but seem to expect you to run on the grass around them. I find it annoying especially when I'm running toward the other group and they're walking toward me. I mean, they can see me coming so it's not going to kill them to walk single file or move over a little so we can both use the sidewalk. And I'm especially not running on the grass in the dark and risk rolling my ankle again. Sheesh! :cutie:

Tonight is suppose to be a rest night. I'm thinking about going for a pedi but thought maybe I should be saving money. Just being lazy but if I can get out of work early enough, I guess I could go.

It's suppose to be a rest day for me but I found a jump rope this morning so I'm kind of tempted to do a bit of weights and jump rope before Survivor tonight.

Friday I'm going to try and meet up with Sue for lunch! I'm looking forward to that!

Have a great day everyone and don't forget to let me know about the Turkey Trot. I need to know approximately how many people so I can order some medals for us!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi Team!

Checking in while dinner is cooking. Chicken on the grill tonight.

Vicky~ I think it would be fun to swap places for dinner. Whichever you would like to do first is okay by me. I usually sit in the balcony for the HDD if it is open. It's a little cheaper that way, and I have never eaten at the Yachtsman before! It will be a new experience!

AFM~ I ran two miles today after prying myself out of bed. I did the second mile with a negative split, a minute faster. I'm glad that I got out today, as I was getting into a sort of depressive funk. Too much hallloween candy!

Also, I signed up for the Little Rock Marathon on March 4th. I've never been "down South" before!

-Mike :cool2:

Okay Vicky, I just looked up the Yachtsman Steakhouse. I'm starving now! Looking forward to it...!

-Mike :cool2:

Hello Team!! :flower3:

Mike - Great to hear you have your spring marathon planned! I am contemplating the Flying Pig. I missed the $75 cut off on Halloween and the next one isn't until 1/31 so I can wait to see how I make it out of the Goofy to decide. Martian Marathon in MI looks fun too...hmmm....

Vivky - I hate sidewalk hogs also... especially if I am doing a hard tempo and I don't want to slow down even the slightest. Reminds me of my last tempo I ran...I came up to a 4 way stop and a truck was at the sign. I didn't want to wait for him to decide if he was going to let me go so I started to zip behind him. Well in the interim he had started to go, but freaked out I think because I was running right towards his bed of his truck...lol. I was running sub-9...that doesn't happen easily...and I was not going to wait for him!!

Dave - I too have enjoyed keeping up with you on here and FB. Crazy to think that we have "known" each other for at least 3 years but have never met in person!! I agree with Regina...you are doing such great things this year..your positive attitude has really turned things round for you!!

Lynn - I've had a husky before so I know about the socializing issues with pack dogs. Mine was horrible with others, but man or man...the smartest dog I've ever known in my life!!!

Regina - I hope you feel better!! I have has sniffles today and the person I follow at my desk is sick so I'm hoping I used enough purell wipes to kill her cooties! I'll also be using the neti pot and gargling with warm salt water tonight...I've heard that can nip things in the bud (I hope).

Tandy - WTG on the great score and doing well in classes in general (I was a horrible student). I love learning about running though so that is something that would have been super fun for me. The wall and how to prevent it is always a fun subject!

Well folks...I'm off in an hour and I have to get my reports done. Hope you are all having a great week!!

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. I learned a long time ago that you have to believe in yourself before you can accomplish much of anything. That belief has carried me through some tough times.
