My dh and ds want to get haircuts on Main Street. We have never done this and I know nothing about it. Is it on a strictly walk in basis? Do you put your name on a list or something? Anything else I should know in advance?
Thanks!

We did three years ago. At that time it was strictly walk in. We didn't get in the first day, and just managed to squeeze in a Baby's First Hair Cut on our second try. The other boys who wanted cuts didn't get them.

My advice is - go early!

Two chairs. Nice folks.

First-come, first-served.

No ressies.

Hi ...

This is something that we have done several times (and are looking forward to it again). My DS and I got really nice haircuts and opted for some color and pixie dust. I ended up with green and blue "highlights" complete with a mickey on the back of my head. My son opted for yellow and pink. My DD also opted to have her hair braided and got some color also (for a nominal charge). Everything washes out easily and it's a terrific haircut. We did get some interesting looks the rest of the day! As far as wait time ... it's hit or miss. We've gone up at different times and seen varying crowds.
Have a great time!
We're almost in single digits!!!! :woohoo:

Here's some photos from 2003. We went in as soon as it opened, but it was way too crowded. So we went back a few hours later and waited about twenty minutes. It's a nice respite after chugging around all day. Like another poster said, it's small and gets crowded, but my DH's going to do it again on our next trip. He got his hair buzzed, and then Michael said, do you want the works?!?! And my kids and me yelled, Yeah! So how could Ed refuse? We didn't even know there was anything called The Works. What a happy surprise....

I think the barber's name is Michael, I see him in Everyone's photos! Look at the back of Michaels arm in the mirror and the back of Ed's head - you can see the Mickey head

This picture shows (but not too clearly) Ed's head with blue spikes and tons of Pixie Dust

We have had great luck going during the afternoon parade. We've not had to wait long and as a bonus the parade goes right past the windows!

My boys have done this and they loved it. They got tons of attention and it made them feel so special. We went first thing in the morning and were 2nd in line.

Ask for Micheal. He is so nice with the little ones. I told him he was famous on the Dis boards & he replied, "I've heard infamous too!"

We tried on our 1st trip with DD & never got in. On the next trip, I headed there right as the parks opened & we were still third in line. Definatly go early. Sbella

I was going to suggest 3 o'clock as well. Everyone is waiting for the parade - only you can see it from the comfort of an air conditioned barber shop!

We have gone when it opened and not had any problems. Another thing you can try is getting early ADR's at Crystal Palace or CRT and after breakfast go and stand outside the door until it opens. We have seen people do this as well and there is no wait.

My wife and I both got our ears lowered here during a trip last December. The waits were never that long and the cut is professional and not much more expensive if any than what you would get where you live.

HOWEVER,

Be sure you have cash. We had our room cards (with credit privileges) and debit cards. But no cash. There we were, pixie dust everywhere and couldn't pay! They don't have a computer line. I had to go to City Hall and purchase Disney dollars. No big deal but the line at City Hall took about 20 extra minutes. Just wanted you to know!

My DD had her 1st haircut here in May and they were able to charge it on my room card, including a tip, with no problem. I believe the people in front of us paid by credit card as well.

This is really a great thing to do, if you can get in. It's so cute & they did a great job amusing my squirmy crabby toddler and her big sis who wasnt even getting her hair cut!

We had DD's hair cut in March (Thank you Penny!!) and we were able to charge it to the room without any trouble.

Here's a picture of DD and Penny from March.

We had a great time. We did wait awhile, we had wanted to get there right as the gate opened but we were a little late that morning.

My DS gets his dome everytime we go and thinks it is one of the best things.
Who would of thunk a 10yr old would look forward to getting his hair cut??? :confused3

My 20 year old son still has a preference to get his hair cut by Michal or Penny, who have been cutting it for years. I've taken him to Supercuts, Sportscuts, whereever, and he just doesn't like the job they do.

It's $17+ tip for a MK haircut, and they are VERY good stylists.

We were there in May and Michael was on break. The family before us was getting their haircut and did not have any cash. The other stylist was new and told them to get Disney cash at City Hall. Michael came back and ran out to City Hall to bring the guy back. Apparently, even though they don't have a machine, they can get information and charge the room now.

nkjzmom, where did you get those cool shirts???

The photos are great :goodvibes There's no better place to get a haircut, especially a first one

We love the barbershop. Both my boys had their first haircuts there. It has become a family tradition. This time my youngest was getting his first haircut and our oldest was a little jealous so Jackie had him sit in the seat and sprinkled him with "pixie dust". (By the way, I see someone else on this board has a picture of Jackie too!) We arrived about an hour after opening and there was only one little girl in front of us getting a "princess 'do". Having two boys I never knew about the "princess 'do". My mom looked at me and said "Oh, a princess 'do!!! I want a princess 'do!!!" :) I laughed at her.... but secretly I wanted one too!
