Ok gals I had a disagreement with DH today. I pay £80 for my hair and tip £ 5. Is this ok ? He reckons I am overtipping. I have my hair colored and cut every 8 weeks at a top stylist. Am I paying too much for long hair ???

if i paid £80 to have my hair done i would not give a tip.
but then i would rather spend £80 on something other than my hair anyway. :confused3

Scary Magicmouse - that's what I pay to have my hair cut and coloured too and I also leave £5 tip. Are we twins and we never knew? :teeth:

£80 :scared1: Wow !!!

I think my mobile hairdresser charges £15 for the four of us to have a trim and she also has a £5 tip, and my hair colour is a fiver from Wilko

Well I paid £84 when I had my hair cut & coloured at Christmas, but came away disappointed as the colour was virtually the same as my normal hair. next time I will stick to just a cut and colour it myself! As for tips, the last few times I have been and paid with my card, I never tipped. it was only on the last visit that I asked if ppl add tips onto their card payment and they said yes, But I always say about £2 to £3 is plenty.
:wave2:

My regular wash, cut and colour costs £95. I usually pay by CC and unless the service is exceptional, I don't tip.

You've all got more money than sense if you ask me!!!

:sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

I usually pay around 30 - 40 pounds to have my hair cut and styled and I usually leave a tip of around 3 or 4 pounds. Just depends really how much change I have. :)

I pay £80 for my hair to be cut and coloured and i never tip. I think my hair dressers great and he does a fab job every time but i think thats a huge amount to pay anyway so as for tipping???

You are a very generous person :cheer2:

I normally pay around £70.00 for my cut and colour and I too leave a tip. The shop might charge a lot, but the poor hairdresser is normally on a really low wage. Unless of course it happens to be their shop!!! If you went to a fancy restaurant and paid top whack for your dinner, would you not tip the server because the food was expensive?

I pay £60 for my cut & colour. I leave £10 and the receptionist divis it up between those who have 'serviced' me (ooh er missus). I buy them all presents at Christmas too (it's only a small salon!)

Can there really be such a thing as too much (or too little)? Surely it's all about the amount you want to leave.

I pay £6 for my hair cuts about every 8 weeks :)

Don't usualy leave a tip though :)

DH offered me the use of his shears too!!!

Every time I go for my hair done he's like "how much? It doesnt cost me anything blah blah"

Is there anything men spend a lot of money on that women dont ????:confused3 Considering we women buy, cosmetics perfumes, costly hairdos, shoes to match every outfit, handbags. I think women should get paid more than men. IT COSTS MORE TO BE A WOMEN!!!

I don't think you're overtipping - £5 sounds fine. But I couldn't bring myself to pay £80 in the first place!!! My "hair do" costs £11 - and I think that's extravagant. It used to cost £7, but they keep putting their prices up!! :teeth:

I pay around £30 for a wash, cut and blowdry every 6-7 weeks - and leave around £3 tip for the stylist and 50p for the junior who washes. If I have highlights it's around an extra £40 on top of that and I leave about £5 tip to the stylist.

I always think that hairdressers are one of the 'tipped' positions, like restaurant staff.

WOW - there must be some seriously rich types on this board!!! I'm always amazed at how many people stay Castle Club at the DLH whereas we stay at the Santa Fe!!!! My friend and neighbour cuts our hair (she was a professional) for £2 and I colour it myself (usually purple  !!!!!). I'm just about to show this to DH to show him how much money he saves by being married to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2:

I just had mine done on Thursday, highlights and tint regrowth £90 no cut next time I go it will be tint regrowth and cut which will be about £75 so generally every 4 weeks I'm paying between £90 and £75 and I always tip, usually about £5 too more at Christmas and my hairdressers birthday. Hairdressers don't earn a lot of money and as someone said I would never go to a restaurant and not tip to me hairdressing is the same principle.

DH pays £10 every 5 weeks for a cut.

No I'm not made of money and no believe me I'm not rich but I work hard, earn my own money most of which is spent on the kids, the house or holidays so spending on my hair is one of the few luxurious I get for myself. As the advert says "because I'm worth it ;) "
