Hair Braiding on Ship - Advice & Photos?

IMG_9096.jpg

Abigail loved her hair - I would recommend bringing kids tylonol with you as it can be uncomfortable for a few hours. And don't forget the sunscreen. I recommend the spray style sunscreen so you don't have to rub it in.

Well, this makes me feel better that some adults do this. I am older than 22, but my work environment is fairly laid back (we wear jeans to work for example) and do not have to deal with seeing anyone from the outside (other than who we work with), so I think it will be ok. Don't know how my DH will react however. Don't think he will want me to do it. But I have real long hair (almost to my pants line) and I always wear the front part back or up to keep the length out of my face, so i think it would be perfect to get the front part in braids. Similiar to ones I've see here....I wonder....:upsidedow

I have similar hair, and I enjoy getting the "headband" done.

I did have my whole head done once...3.5 hours!! Looked great and loved it. Long story short, unfortunately I had to take it all out a couple days after we got back. The process took place over the course of a day, with people popping in here and there to undo a braid!

We had our DD4's hair braided at Little Divi Beach resort in St. Maarten. The woman was right on the beach and had pictures to chose from. I had decided that no way I was going to get the girls' hair braided anywhere else but the ship, but this lady was so sweet and gentle with the other customers, so we decided to go for it. She really was so good with my DD. I regret not getting her name. She charged $2 a braid and I told her to stop at 10. She gave DD 2 extra braids and braided her hair wet from the ocean. DD got to pick out her beads and looked aborable with her cornrows on the top of her head. It was great because I didn't have to do her hair the rest of the cruise. We sprayed her scalp with sunscreen for the rest of the trip. They have been in her hair for almost 2 weeks. We were boating today and I had to spray her scalp again. I want to find someone to redo them for her because they were not done very tight (which was a good thing...they never bothered her). They look adorable.

We had our other DD's hairbraided at CC in 2001. There were tears and more tears. That is when we learned our lesson to ALWAYS travel with conditioner for their hair. At that time, conditioner was not in the cabins and could not be bought on the ship. Lesson learned.

I had mine done and I was 24 at the time. i got corn rows lfway back and left the rest of my hair out. They didn't hurt at all to go in and I have pretty sensitive head. i loved it and can't wit for september to do it again.

We will be on the wonder. Where to you get this done and do you make reservations ahead?

The pics all look great. So many cutie pies!!!

My daughter and my granddaughter had their hair braided on our Wonder cruise in February. They had it done on the ship. I did not think my granddaughter would like it at all because she is pretty sensitive but she said it didn't bother her and is looking forward to having it done again when we go in December. I did not see any kids crying. There were 2 ladies doing braids and they had a book to look through. I think they were set up on deck 9 near the forward elevators. My granddaughter got her braids the first day and had a very short wait. My daughter waited till the day before we left and she had to come back 3 hours later. They both left them in for over a week after they came home.

BUMP - any new photos or advice? When are reservations available on embarkation day and are they really necessary? I'd like to get them done the first night.

Here's a pic of my daughter. She has a very sensitive scalp and this didn't bother her too much to have done. She loved it and it looked good throughout the cruise and for about 3 weeks after we got home. She said she would defiinitely do it again, but not get the beads just the braids

We had it done on the ship (by Juanita ... she was awesome!) and I liked it much better than my nieces, who had theirs done on CC.

That looks great, I love how its angled...your DD is beautiful!

Did anyone else notice the comb sticking out of the woman's black tank top a the top of this page? As a licensed cosmetologist, is this a major no no. I'm sure the CM isn't licensed, but who thinks this is okay?

I've been staring at the photos after reading your post and I don't see a comb...I see her CM nametag (white), but not a comb.

In the woman getting her hair braided, the black "rat tail" comb blends in with her black tank top. It sticks out from the top of her tank in her chest!

I would assume that the lady doing the braids didnt stick it in there, that just seems weird of someone to stick something into someone elses shirt, lol.

Perhaps the lady getting her hair braided brought her own comb with her for whatever reason and then stuck it in there herself?

I think it is a bra strap.?

That is odd. It's a comb. You can see the strap on the other shoulder and it is not black.

Hey, everyone! OP here back from my trip. I did get cornrows done. I got the "curved" style instead of the straight back kind. 11 cornrows = $22 plus tip. It was totally worth it - I loved the way they came out, and they worked great to keep my hair out of my face in the wind! I had to make an appointment, so I chose 8:30 AM the first full day since the Port Canaveral day times were very limited. They hurt a bit going in and here and there the first day, but after that they were fine. I just took them out last night - they were in for 11 days. They were pretty easy to remove, but holy moly did a lot of hair come out! :scared1: I had read here that that would probably happen, but wow! I can't notice a difference, but still, I was beginning to panic. It seems to be back to normal (or almost) today, though. The only complaint I have (besides the hair loss) was the personality (or lack of) of the woman who did the braiding. Even making my appointment the previous day she was, let's just say, less than magical. When I showed up the next morning, she said, "Oh, it's for you? I thought it was for a child." OK... Anyway, all of the other CMs on board were awesome, from food servers to custodial staff, etc., so one out of so many isn't bad.

Here's a picture of the finished product the first night - sorry about the camera in my face - I utilized the mirror to get a better pic.

Wow the curved style is so cute! DD had hers done on CC last time and she will not do it again. Said it hurt too much. It looked great though. And I loved not having to tell her to push her hair out of her face. I am looking for pictures with just the braids, not the cornrows. I might be able to get her to do that.

Page 1, post #7 you will see pics of my DD's braids. Had them done on the ship 2½ years ago and each braid was $1.00.
