Wow! It seems like no network is safe from hackers these days! This article was posted to the Orange County Register www.ocregister.com this evening:
Hackers Change Software at Disneyland "Toy Story" Ride
Anaheim, California - Disneyland guests on the Toy Story Midway Mania ride at Disney's California Adventure received quite a surprise today. Thinking they were playing video games with Woody, Buzz and Jessie, guests were surprised when character images transformed into Shrek, Fiona and Puss & Boots.
Disney spokesman Michael Myers said that Russian hackers gained access to the Disney network when an employee inadvertently downloaded a trojan virus file. The file allowed hackers to obtain passwords of developers who program the Toy Story Midway Mania ride. From there the hackers changed the resource files which contained images of the Toy Story characters. Further, audio source files were also changed which resulted in Shrek's Scottish brogue voice being substituted for Woody's western drawl.
Guests on the ride saw pies hitting the face of the Shrek and Donkey characters among other things. Cast Members were confused by the guest reports of Shrek characters and it took a full 30 minutes to shut the ride down.
Disney Imagineer Ed Murphy arrived shortly thereafter to load a backup file and reboot the system. Cast Member leads Anton Banderas and Cam Diaz were the first to test the software fix and verify that the ride was again operating properly.
Imagineer Ed Murphy was available for comment later in the day. He said Disney network experts traced the trojan virus to the Russian city of Farfara Way. The virus was purged from the Disney network using a new software product from security expert Norton called Happily Ever After.
