My DD (6) loves this song and my niece said that she can't believe that I let her sing it.

OK, so I'm an un-hip Mom...what is wrong with this song? I just heard it on the radio and didn't notice anything overly offensive, but it could have been a cleaned up version.

What am I missing? :confused3

That's because you are listening to the censored version. The actual song says the "S" word at least 50 times.

Its just talking about her not being a call back girl ;) A 6 year old would never understand that anyways :earboy2:

I think it is hysterical that people call it the Banana Song...It's "Hollaback Girl". I think there may be a lot of mommies and daddies surprised at what their little girls are singing about.

Edtied to add: I am surprised I haven't worn out my L.A.M.B CD yet. ;)

The song is called "Hollaback Girl." Other than using the S word, it is a lot tamer than the humpy disco 70's music or 60's drug taking music. I do not find the "clean" version offensive.

Ok, this proves it...I am so uncool!

It was definately the clean version!

And, I thought she was singing "There ain't no harm in that, girl" :rotfl:

I really need to get out once and awhile... :rolleyes1

A Hollaback girl is a girl who makes herself "available" to a guy at any given moment. He calls her, she "hollas back" that she'll be there to you know what asap.

Of course, little girls aren't going to know that - I hope. ;)

I must be really un-hip. I've heard the song, obviously only on the radio (didn't know there was another version!) and I had/have no idea what the song is even about.

ETA: I just read a reply on here about what the song is about. Oh boy....I didn't have a clue lol. :earseek:

Don't feel bad. My DD's best friend's mother thought Gwen Stefani was saying "I ain't no Harlem black girl."

Yep, she did. She was really embarrassed as she was singing it and the girls had to correct her. And then there was the long explanation of what a Hollaback Girl was....

"I ain't no Harlem black girl."

This is hysterical! DIL was just telling me last night that she just found out what the real words were--she thought they were the same as above! She'll feel better that she's not the only one!

Oh, the 70's were out of control!

There was that "Push, push, in the bush" song.....remember "The Brothers Johnson?" Talk about vague references! :rotfl:

Don't forget "Afternoon Delight!"

Yeah, I guess it was out there but it seemed that you had to have a certain level of sophistication to "get" it. When those songs were out, I was probably about 12 and I really thought that they were talking about "disco dances in the bushes or shrubs." Didn't figure out what a Johnson was until I was probably 20!

Now, I've been listening to some questionable music driving around and the kids have been in the car. Most recently we have been hearing (over and over again) the song "Sugar" by Ludacris. My son wants to know what what Lil Kim means by "lick my Tootsie Roll." He says "what does she mean by that Mom?" :guilty: We've changed radio stations.

My 8 year old DD and 11 year old DN think its I Ain't No Holla That Girl - I don't think I will correct them.

Found this online:

Uh huh, this my sh*t
All the girls stomp your feet like this

A few times I've been around that track
So it's not just gonna happen like that
Cause I ain't no hollaback girl
I ain't no hollaback girl
[2x]

Oooh, smash it,smash it[4x]

I heard that you were talking sh*t
And you didn't think that I would hear it
People hear you talking like that, getting everybody fired up
So I'm ready to attack, gonna lead the pack
Gonna get a touchdown, gonna take you out
That's right, put your pom-poms down, getting everybody fired up

A few times I've been around that track
So it's not just gonna happen like that
Cause I ain't no hollaback girl
I ain't no hollaback girl
[2x]

Oooh, smash it, smash it[4x]

So that's right dude, meet me at the bleachers
No principals, no student-teachers
Both of us want to be the winner, but there can only be one
So I'm gonna fight, gonna give it my all
Gonna make you fall, gonna sock it to you
That's right, I'm the last one standing, another one bites the dust

A few times I've been around that track
So it's not just gonna happen like that
Cause I ain't no hollaback girl
I ain't no hollaback girl
[2x]

Oooh, smash it, smash it[4x]

Let me hear you say, this sh*t is bananas
B-A-N-A-N-A-S
This sh*t is bananas
B-A-N-A-N-A-S
Again, the sh*t is bananas
B-A-N-A-N-A-S
This sh*t is bananas
B-A-N-A-N-A-S

A few times I've been around that track
So it's not just gonna happen like that
Cause I ain't no hollaback girl
I ain't no hollaback girl
[2x]

Oooh, smash it,smash it [4x]
