I'm in the planning stages of a renovation and I'm wondering if we should get one of those gutter guard systems. You know the ones ~ they supposedly keep leaves and debris from clogging the gutters. We lived in a pretty treed area and I thought these might be good to have. Any input??

If you have a steep roof or a lot of valleys, the water can overshoot the guard. Also, if you ever lean a ladder against your gutters for any reason, they will dent, which will ruin them (functionally).

I wish that I could use them, but I have a steep roof, lots of valleys, and I hang Christmas lights from my gutters every year. Would not work with gutter guards. I would rather clean my gutters 3 times per year than not be able to hang my lights... :goodvibes

Our neighbor has gutter guards and we enjoy watching the birds fly under them to nest in the gutter.:lmao:

I've had them for about 4-5 years. No problems at all. I haven't cleaned gutters in decades - but it is nice not to have to pay someone to do it.

I used a local guy not the one that advertises all the time. I have a one story home that is just under 3000 sq. ft. I think it was about $1000 - but that also included some gutter repair work.

The last time I cleaned gutters was in the early 80s. I spent a day on a ladder hauling the most disgusting muck out of the gutters. I was filthy. Literally just a mud ball. It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had.

About a week later my yard man told me that he would clean the gutters for $15. I could not believe what I'd been thru to save FIFTEEN DOLLARS.
