Guns In Liberty Square Windows

There are guns in some of the windows in Liberty Square.When I recently took the KTTK tour the CM told us the history behind this,but I have forgotten.Does anyone know?Thanks.

I took the tour too and I vaguely remember (the heat was getting to me and it was right before breaking for lunch, LOL) - it had something to do with in Colonial days, it would signify if the husband or man of the house was home or away at war, but that's about all I remember, sorry...
