Gum Chewing - What's Oprah's problem??

I'm not a big gum fan either. I think it's kind of gross to be talking to someone who is steady chewing a piece of gum.

I thought it was a bit weird that Oprah thought everyone wears nylons to the GYN. Who does that unless they are coming from work??? If I have a choice, I wear something that is easy to get in and out of - definitely not nylons.

Watching someone chew gum, especially a big wad of it (think Britney Spears), makes me gag. I had a teacher who used to say that people chewing gum look like cows chewing their cud. The older I get, the more I agree with that. I think it's a solitary activity.

Oh totally! That was so weird. I can't remember the last time I wore nylons, why would I wear them to the ob/gyn?????? I thought the segment about "ob/gyn" ettiquette would be about "personal" grooming, not to wear socks or not. How is wearing socks a question of etiquette? I didn't get that one at all.

I have to say I fall on the side of NOT liking to see people chew gum. I think it is rude to be talking to someone in public with your mouth chewing constantly. I do not chew gum nor does my DD. If we have a breath problem as one poster mentioned there are plenty of mints, etc. that will quickly go away rather than a long constant chew. Just my opinion.

Here at work I sit next to someone who chews bubblegum all day long. Talk about rude... there are days I really want to say give it a break. She's loud and gross when she chews it. But she's also the one that grunts and sighs loudly all day long.

Well, when I gave up smoking, I took up gum chewing with a vengeance. I'll eventually give it up but for now--I don't care if it offends other people.

For the record, chewing nicotine gum taught me to be a world class gum parker. Anytime I'm on the phone or talking with someone, I just park the gum.

I HATE when I see people chewing gum. Yes, just chewing.I don't chew gum, and I don't allow my kids to chew gum on a regular basis.

As for bad breath, they do make mints for that.

I hate gum chewing....nasty

I hate gum chewing too. Of course my kids think it's the bomb! Blech! I hardly ever let them have gum. I only chew it on planes for relieving the pressure in my ears.

I remember when Oprah talked about how she hated people chewing gum. I see no problem. I sometimes chew gum. I couldn't believe when she said she threw theplate away, because every time she'd see the china she'd think which plate did she stick the gum on. :confused3 I would never go to that extreme, but I hate it when people let their pet eat the leftovers off their plate. That would freck me out more then anything wondering if I ever ate at their home again about how many times did their pet eat off this dish... :paw:

I love gum. And the reason? It's easy entertainment for the kids. I can get my groceries in peace and the little ones get to poke their fingers in my bubbles and giggle. :rotfl2: The kids are quiet and not screaming throughout the store or chunking things out of the basket.

Oh just for the record my grandmother taught me that women shouldn't chew gum because "it looked like cows eating grass." I will chew gum in the house or in the car but not in public.

My mom says the same thing. I hardly ever chew gum in public.

Around age 9 or 10, when I started being aware of how I looked and how everyone else looked, I noticed that NO ONE looks good chewing gum - even the cute boys. :p I haven't had a piece in at least 30 years.

Not a gum chewer but I can't imagine caring whether someone chews it in public or not.

I know I feel the same way... Gum chewers don't bother me, unless they snap the gum, blow bubbles or chew their gum with a open mouth.

Well I can't stand Oprah but I also can't stand seeing someone chew gum. I think it is a nasty little habit and don't want to see it. I don't care if you aren't popping, blowing, or cracking it. If you're chewing it then I think it's disgusting.

None of my kids ever chewed gum. I have no idea why I got lucky in that department!
