We recently bought a re-sale at VWL. On our last visit to WDW, we looked into the DVC for the first time. Our salesperson was Linda, who was very nice and very informative. Naturally, she was trying to get us to buy into SSR. After we returned home, we decided we really wanted WL and decided on a resale. She called us several days later and we told her we were going with a resale. Now that we are members, she is our guide. I hope this wont be awkward if we have questions or problems. Has this happened to anyone else?

We did the same thing. My guide was more than happy to hear from us though when we wanted to add on to BWV last month. I wouldn't worry about it because they are probably used to it. Besides, I don't think you really need them unless you want to add on anyway, so they will be happy to hear from you.

BTW - Welcome Home!!!!!!:wave2:

2 years ago we toured DVC and our guide was Mark Webb. At that time we decided not to buy.

Well...we now have a BWV resale contract and when I got my new member books from DVC I saw Mark's info on the back of the book. I guess once you speak to someone, thats the guide you get even if you buy resale.

I don't think it will be uncomfortable at all.

In the Fall of 2002 I began discussions with guide Betty Prykl (sp?). Spoke to her at least 3x...once for nearly an hour. She was selling BCV, which we weren't interested in due to points higher than OKW and BWV.

Ended up with a BWV resale. I think she did contact us once after we bought to let us know she was our guide...can't remember if it was phone or snailmail.

BTW, I found Betty to be one of the lowest-pressure salespeople I ever came across. She practically told us not to join because we hadn't visited WDW frequently enough. I kinda resented that a bit because she was jumping to conclusions...DVC was the right purchase for us for several personal reasons at the time. Because of that, I don't think we'll ever add-on through DVC...just go resale again.

Guides are just a WDW word for "salesman". Do not concern yourself about so called guides.

We've only bought resale and have had a number of guides as they came and went. None have ever made us feel second class because we bought resale, unlike at another resort we own where they even told us we didn't get the member discounts. While they are mostly sales people, DVC uses them a little beyond that. If you have any disputes about the rules, etc, DVC frequently gets the guids involved. Once you have a guide, that is your guide. You can ask to change or if they leave, DVC will assign you a new one.

Disney tries to make sure the DVC guides are better trained in customer service than the average timeshare salesperson. They should be helpful no matter how you bought your points. They will refer you to member services if that's the right place to seek help. But they'll also help you understand the rules and settle disputes. Don't hesitate to call your guide if you think you have a question that member services can't answer.

In the unlikely (but not impossible) event that your guide is less than friendly or helpful, let DVC management know about it. And if your guide goes out of his or her way to help you, let DVC management know about that, too!
