Guide Problems?

I didn't even notice that the OP had won their points. No jealousy, just realism. Why tell the OP something which isn't true? They have NO reason to call their guide unless they want to add on points. Too often on this website I see people being mislead by other posters who want to offer 'pixie dust' instead of reality and fact. It isn't helpful.

They are upset because their guide isn't helping them, but their guide SHOULDN'T be helping them for the reasons they listed.

My guide OFFERED TO SEND ME HATS since I could not purchase them. I simply called back a few times and said if you cannot let me know so I can go another route. I also called back about points for THV, booking, and how I can maybe add on points.

Maybe my guide should not OFFER HELP if he cannot do it.

Thanks for the kind responses, I simply asked about other peoples guides. I appreciate the attacks which were uneccessary.

When folks come on the boards here and ask for opinions, one cannot expect to receive all answers coming with one voice. You will receive a wide spectrum of responses, not all of them what you want to hear. But that is to be expected at times. You can pick and choose what advice you want to heed, and just ignore what you do not agree with.

Myself, well I can assure you my reply (which I thought was quite informative) did not come from jealousy. I was the Grand Prize Winner at Doorway to Dreams this summer and I am quite satisfied with my own winnings myself.

As far as the guide not calling back, well it sounds like there was back and forth communications initially. The OP, being a new DVC owner, was not informed with what expectation to seek out the Guides for. So the Guide may not have called back continuing on, if it was not under his realm of responsibility. Now, if he had no communication at all with them, well then I would be concerned. But it sounds like the Guide was doing what he could.

I do not see the need here to complain (which is what you basically have to do) to be assigned a new Guide. If the OP was seeking to add on at this time, and was unable to contact, then i would call the supervisors. Also, there are times when Guides may be out sick, on a leave of absence, have emergency situations, etc. I always try to give the benefit of the doubt whenever possible. Since they earn their living from sales, I am sure they would do what they could to complete a sale. But sometimes real life does throw us some curves.

My whole point was, at first, he was there on the drop of a dime. When we visited, he met with us, told me ANYTHING I NEEDED, or ANY QUESTIONS, call him. He even gave us his CELL PHONE. I asked questions as a new DVC member, one was about merchandise, as SSR was pretty limited. He asked what I was looking for, I said hats. HE OFFERED TO SEND US 2. Thats all. I called a couple of times asking about that, then leaving messages that if he cannot do it, just let me know, and ill find them elsewhere. I called about adding points. I called about the THV points and booking that. MS TOLD ME to call my guide. Thats what I did.

Simple courtesy would be, one return call. I made the first in June. 4 months and 6-8 messages later, not one return call.

I simply posted asking what others would do. Am I ungrateful? No. In fact, I am probably the happiest disney winner in the world. I just was curious if others had problems.

If some of you read my note and thought it was just about a hat, I suggest re-reading or understanding more what I said.

Thanks to all.

Nobody attacked you - in fact one of the first people to reply is a moderator, and you seem unhappy with her responses as well.

Again, you should NOT be calling your guide about THV as you already own points. MS can help you with that.

You asked for input in your very first post from longtime owners yet you seem to refuse to accept the facts we have given you. I don't understand why you posted this if all you were looking for was validation. I refuse to tell you that you are correct in expecting your guide to call you about THV or hats or anything else not directly related to sales.

I also suspect that your guide will see this thread. I feel badly for them.

Like Jessica just said, after reading some of the "comments."

My guide is a good guy, and was very nice to us. Took time out to meet us personally. This is not a complaint, just a question about contact with them. I understand more now. Maybe our expectations were too high?:confused3

Our guide told us, ANYTHING, ANY questions, concerns or anything we need, CALL. Thats why i guess I expected more? He told us to call about anything and everything. I took it to be he was like our OWN personal vacation consultant.

In fact, we are the only ones listed with him on the WHO IS YOUR GUIDE thread. SO maybe he is more than just a guide?

Again, thanks to the kind posters, and to the rude ones, get to know me before passing judgement. Thanks again all!!

you're right. Who cares if you won your ownership or not, you still should be treated as anyone else and your calls should be returned. Even if to say "hey, call someone else."
My most recent call to my guide (to see about purchasing more points) wasn't returned for 3 days and I was a little upset. Most would just assume a quick response. They're kind of like a realtor to me. I'm not ready to buy another house yet, but when I call up my realtor for some reason (ex: last time was to get a recommendation for a flooring guy), she calls me back right away.
Hope you're enjoying the winnings. I'm not embarrassed to say that I'm jealous! :)

Silly and ungrateful is attacking.

Well, I can only go by what MS told me when I asked about THV. They said, "CALL YOUR GUIDE FOR ANY THV QUESTIONS"

I can accept the facts. And appreciate them without the "silly" and "ungrateful" comments.

Part of the problem is my guide told me to call him for ANYTHING. Apparently thats not the case with guides. I can only go by what HE told me back in May, when he said I will mail you 2 hats, no problem. He offered. My assumption was your guide assists you with things.

I also suspect that your guide will see this thread. I feel badly for them.

Why? As I posted above, maybe my expectations were too high, however, he lead me to believe I call him for anything.

Anyone else have problems with their guide not returning calls? I met my guide in May, really good guy, nice to us after we won. Spoke with him a few times. I had asked him about hats, and he said he would mail us 2. Well, thats the last I have heard from him, even after about a half dozen phone calls. I have called about our vacations, and other questions, left voice mail, and not one returned phone call. I realize guides are busy, but, we are starting to think that because we won instead of buying he did not get a commission? He was really good to us in May, I hate to complain, but, I think ignoring my calls and questions is not right. Any suggestions from veteran DVC'rs?
There were 2 or 3 of these prizes allocated, I believe, with a 'value' of $80,000. The only people who are in your situation are the other winners. Frankly, I had no idea that you were a 'winner' as I don't know you other than from this one thread. I don't read much on the DVC section here.

But I did initially respond to the sections of your post I bolded above, and I think that several others did as well.

Are your expectations too high? Yes, I still think so. Unless your prize came with some sort of personal assistant to help you with each and every DVC related question/issue/booking you may have for the duration of your contract, I think that you will be sorely disappointed, and it may tarnish the pleasure you should really have from having won this prize.

My suggestion is that you take a few days to calm down, and then call your guide again. If you have communicated to him as you have communicated to us here, then I think that your guide would at this point prefer as well that you switch guides as I don't think that your relationship is as you had hoped, whatever the reason. And again, I do think that your guide will see this thread at some point. Frankly, I don't see the situation being resolved to make you feel any better at this point with your current guide, and I sense that it will only serve to frustrate you and diminish the value of your prize.

I only 'know' you OP from the words that you have posted on this thread. You may be the most kind, sweet person around, but the words you used and the way you used them are what people responded to here. I'm sorry if your feelings were hurt. I am German, English is not my first language, and I post in a straight forward, factual fashion. I know that many here don't like that, but I don't take it personally. I would rather give out facts than mislead people.

Best of luck. And I mean that sincerely. Whether or not OP agrees with me, my intentions have always been to help them with their question, and I still refute that I have attacked him/her in this thread. I realize that continuing to debate is futile on my part at this point, so my recommendation stands as I outlined a few times, and I will leave it at that.

1: I am calm
2: My guide told us ANYTHING we need, call. HE offered to send us hats, I am not asking him.
3: From HIS words and actions, I did not think I was expecting too much. My belief, until reading from others, was that he is more than a "realtor" selling something. Not only did he say call for ANYTHING, he gave us his CELL PHONE to call during off hours if we needed anything. I guess I expected that meant what he said
4: I am not silly or selfish or ungrateful, esp when I thought, per his words, that what I was asking for was normal.
5: I did not ask for others advice after he did not return one call. I have called SINCE MAY, and left numerous messages. One call was about the hats, I left a message, if you cannot send them as you said you could, no problem, just let me know, so I can do something else for them. The next calls were point/winning related. My last call was about THV points, details and add ons, something MS told me to call him about.

If it came across that I was whining or not happy, then I apologize. Go read my previous posts, about our excitement and happiness and appreciation at winning this incredible prize. Read my trip report. Listen to one of our 3 podcast interviews. I am sure you will see how grateful and happy we are.

Have a magical week.

I like our guide. He is a good guy. Just wish I could get a return call. He was very accomodating to us, and very helpful. This thread was not to bash or attack him at all. I just wish he would call back. Even if my issues are not something he handles.

Anyways. Have a magical week everyone!

Congratulations on being a Grand Prize Winner! There is no excuse for your guide not calling you back...(you may even want to add on someday!) We have a very friendly relationship with our guide, we stop in and ask for her at least once a year and she always has time to sit with us even if it is just 10 minutes! Our original guide has been promoted and he even has time to say hello. I wear my pink DVC hat all the time here in NJ, I'm happy to talk about DVC for anyone that asks me, but I wear it because it makes me feel closer "to Home". I'm glad you were able to get hats off ebay! I haven't made it to "welcome home wednesdays" yet but I see people with hat give aways on the elevator all the time.

Our guide is Theresa Seitz, she's great!

Unfortunately, this thread was difficult to keep civil and therefore, it is now closed. Thank you.
