Soon-to-be (hopefully) DVC owner. We are planning our first DVC stay in November with extended family. The family will be staying at another non-Disney, Orlando-area timeshare. Will Disney allow us to have our family come to our resort to enjoy the pool and/or dine with us? Will they be allowed to park for free?

If you have occupancy space on your room (such as there's 4 of you in a 2BR and occupancy is 8 or 9) you can add them to your reservation and they can use the pool etc. even though they aren't sleeping there. Not possible of course if for example you are in a studio with 4 or 5 and maxing out the occupancy.

I always think: you add 2 non-guests, I add two the other guys add.... and this is why no one can get a chair at the pool.

Eh - someone brings 9 in a 2BR sleeping overnight. Someone else bring 3. The room of 3 ultimately subsidizes the room of 9.

Everyone has a right to use their full occupancy. I was not suggesting requesting above that.

Not really because if a room holds X number of people, and as long as someone is staying in that limit, those people are registered guests.

I just stayed in a GV at RIV for one night with 4 of us...that sleeps 12....so we were well below the limit of who could have been with us and had pool access....

Agree that if you have extra capacity on your room reservation, add them so they can park and join you at the pool. If you don't, they can still join you to dine if you have an ADR and they're listed as part of the dining reservation. If they're not on your room reservation, they won't be able to get in to park (except for the ADR) or get into the pool.

For the ADR, all they need is the restaurant name, time of ADR, and name of the primary guest on the ADR, to tell the guard at the gate if the guard asks (we find that often we can just say we have a reservation at X restaurant, they ask for photo ID, and that's it).

There's no requirement to list all guests by name on any ADR - it's a convenience if you want to link the ADR to their MDE so it will show in their plans.

PARKING.... parking is for resort gst or gst has a dining reservation.
IME w/ parking it really depends on which resort you’re staying at - we’ve had extended family staying offsite drive over & park to visit us (including post Covid) at AKV Jambo w/ no issue - they just gave our villa no. & name to the guard. Likely because AKV has a big parking lot & there aren’t a lot of day park visitors trying to park there.
I assume the resorts which are walkable to the parks are more of a problem - for the Poly, BLT, & VGF if the guard says no they could pay to park at the TTC & walk to the Poly or monorail over to BLT/VGF.

I got stuck on the bolded part above. Very jealous! Hope you had a great time!!! :)

Since the OP hasn’t made reservations yet for November 2023, most likely we’re can pretty much rule out beach club and boardwalk studios. I think Boulder and copper are slim pickings too. Though 1 bedrooms may still have good availability, since those are often last to get booked. So by the time the OP books, if a studio, they might be able to get SSR, OKW, or AK kidani. Those 3 aren’t as strict in terms of parking since they are not a theme park access resort.

IF OP is buying DIRECT from Disney and this is their “WELCOME HOME” booking, they can get pixie dusted and their guide can help get them one of those unicorn rooms.

When we booked our welcome home, I requested TWO studios at Beach club villas during the middle of Food & Wine festival (we bought AKV in May 2019 and booked the BCV studios for September 2019).

OP, you can have guests visit you but they can NOT use the ammenities (gym, pool, or stay over night) unless they are registered in the room. Like others have said, if the room occupancy allows, add them to the reservation. It is not like a hotel reservation in that you have to pay for guests over two people.

Welcome Home

According to the ROFR thread OP is buying the Poly & w/ luck might close before the 7 month window opens for their Nov. visit & since the Poly has an abundance of studios perhaps they’ll be able to book one & enjoy their new home resort :). The downside of getting their home resort would be that parking at the Poly is limited.

Since there’s only one guard-gate entrance for both Kidani and Jambo, parking can be strict there even though AK is the only nearby park. On our way to Boma for late breakfast last month, the car at the gate had an extended conversation with the guard and eventually pulled into the U-turn and left, with the vehicle directly behind them following into the U-turn without pausing at the gate. We inferred that they had been turned away for lack of a reservation or other valid reason to access the AKL complex.

Yea, we stay at AKV often. For at least the last year, there's a sign at the guard shed that says only guests with room or dining reservations permitted. That doesn't mean that if someone comes and tells them they're meeting with "So and So, staying in villa 1234" (something the guard could verify, if important), and they're just there for dining or drinks, it might work. Probably depends on the guard. Many years ago, we stayed at non-AKV locations and would drive to AKV to shop at The Mara and see the animals, and it wasn't an issue to be let in. Those days seem gone.

Welcome Home
I think we established that the OP is not buying direct. They appear to be waiting for approval. Then there is no welcome home trip. Though us older members never got their welcome home trips either. I bought 7 direct contracts in my lifetime. 🤷‍♀️

Can you add the guests for only a portion of your stay? Like only for one night of a 4 night stay?

Not exactly. I've heard of people getting people added as day guests by the resort in a case like that.
