Guest Test of Magic Bands (Official Notice)

Below is my first attempt to "prioritize" the general desirability/popularity/necessity of the (test) FP+ choices in the parks.
(**I added BTM at MK, and Fantasmic! at DHS.)

-H- High Priority/Necessity FP
-M- Medium Priority/Necessity FP
-L- Low Priority/Necessity FP
-P- Performance FP (I wanted to separate these as unique.)
The -P- FP's may be very popular, I just don't know where to put
them in the priority list.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have also posted each attraction in a relative POSITION.
So, the highest one or two attractions in the -L- category might be considered (in some cases) to be an -M-
and the lowest one or two attractions in the -M- category might be considered (in some cases) to be an -L-

Similarly, the highest one or two attractions in the -M- category might be considered (in some cases) to be an -H-
and the lowest one or two attractions in the -H- category might be considered (in some cases) to be an -M-

Also know that it is just my (nearly off-the-cuff) arbitrary list,
and others will surely have their own varied priorities.

At first when I read that there were no tiers for this testing go-round, I was happy, but then I thought about it longer, and I'm not sure anymore.

I want unfettered access to Fastpasses, but at least when there were tiers there was a "spread the wealth" aspect, which would have made getting at least one E-ticket FP a little easier.

With no tiers, its going to be a feeding frenzy at 8 am 60 days out, and anyone with slow fingers, or who is slow to plan their trip, might be shut out.

I really don't want to have to waste brain space with a strategy on which FP+ to book first i.e., I want Pan, Thunder and Space, I better type in Pan first to lock it in, and then Space and then Thunder, because that is the order they will "sell out". :scared:

Disney, if you are reading, I love the magic band, I like the idea of booking FPs with my phone and not having paper bits everywhere and running all over the park, but PLEASE let me do it the day of. Just open the FP booking at 9 am the day of, that way people who want to sleep in can just punch it in from the comfort of their beds, and then roll over and catch some more zzz's, and I can punch it in from the comfort of Main Street- see everyone is happy!

Robo, you messed up, I don't see Stitch's Great Escape under the High priority category.

I gotta believe that Disney will restrict the amount if prebookings in a way that allows availability to be more evenly spread out. Peiple complain now hen the current FPs sell out for the day. There will be utter outrage if everything for Fast Pass+ is sold out due to prebookings in advance. Its a pretty obvious pitfall that I'm willing to beleive has already been thought if and planned for by Disney

Gosh, I really, really hope so! :thumbsup2

Robo, I'm going to have to disagree with Jungle Cruise being a low priority. Have you ever waited in that standby line? It sucks! It's a very slow loader, there's no air conditioning, and the queue is just roping with no interaction or anything to look at unless you happen to be on the edge of the sea of people.

I'd get a fast pass for that before I did Peter Pan. Peter Pan I can at least do rope drop and do all of Fantasyland pretty quickly. But I'm not wasting an early morning in Adventureland to get the short line at Jungle Cruise.

It may not be an E ride, but it's certainly a longer wait than Magic Carpets of Aladdin.

I think I agree with this - but it may depend on time of year. The last several times we've been on it has been a near walk-on, even at supposedly busier times. We did it end if June/early July last year and only had to wait one boat load. But I also know at other times it can be pretty long.

I didn't notice how they've set up IASW for FP+...how are they going to handle the queue?

Everyone will have her/his own priorities.

If you want JC higher on the list, I won't disagree, but we can play that with nearly every entry below the top 3-5 at every park.

I just took a quick stab at it.
There will be PLENTY of others doing their own lists.
Each may offer a different perspective... based on, well, EVERYTHING.

The boards will be humming with "What FP+ choices should I make?" threads.

Ah, the fun of it!

BTW, one of the things I considered in my list, was the necessity of guests choosing
a FP+ for an attraction... based simply on the priority of WANTING to ride said attraction.

JC falls into the "I'll do it if I have time," kind of category for me...
based mainly on the wildly-varying quality of the Skippers' spiels.

YMMV

I couldn't agree more, Robo. In fact, we no only ride JC when it's dark (much better ride in the dark) and only if it's near walk-on.

I've been looking at these lists and what I would choose will depend a lot on how they set up viewing areas. I don't want to use my FP+ for parades so if there are still plenty of open areas I intend to keep using those. If a lot of open areas are set aside for FP+ then I'd have to rethink that.

My problem areas are MK and AK. I don't know how to pick only three at those parks. I'm surprised to see the Muppets on the list at DHS since people currently just crowd into a room and everyone gets in.

Robo,
Just curious as to your reasoning why LMA was a M. I thought those shows never filled to capacity, except maybe the busiest days of the year.

Also, once off site guests have access to magic bands, how will they distinguish resort guests for EMH? Will they go back to bracelets for EMH, but now resort guests will be wearing two bands?

I too would make it an -M- but may not understand your reasons. which one of these categories makes it an -L- for you?

  1. desirability
  2. popularity
  3. necessity

maybe number 3? :confused3

One day we're at AK in the a.m. to mid afternoon and then we'll go to HS for dinner and the rest of the evening. Since I know the FP will "sell out" at HS well before we arrive that evening I went ahead and got FP+ for that park. BUT this means I can't get any kind of FP for our visit to AK in the morning. Which leaves me pretty disappointed. We're going to have to race to EE and then race to Kilimanjaro Safaris. Basically we are stuck with stand by lines for that park.

Good plan. I don't think your waits for EE and Safari should be too bad.

But IF "day-of" FP+ selections should also be possible (in addition to the pre-booked ones), perhaps you can get FP+ at AK in the morning?

That would be an encouraging sign, even though I realize this is only a test, only a test, only a test.... :goodvibes

With apologies to Tommy Shaw...

The music's interrupted by an old familiar sound
We've heard it all our lives - who paid attention?

Then the radio announcer tells us this has been a test
I never heard the rest - I always changed the station

Mr. President our radar shows an image in the skies
And we believe it's headed our direction
The Russians aren't responding and we're up against the clock
It seems there's no avoiding this deadly confrontation

And this is not a test, no video effect
No science fiction quest for glory
And this is not a test, there'll be no turning back
The hour is at hand, and this is not a test you can ignore...

Also, once off site guests have access to magic bands, how will they distinguish resort guests for EMH? Will they go back to bracelets for EMH, but now resort guests will be wearing two bands?

One of the reasons there is suspicion that EMH may be on its way out. :)

A couple years ago, we arrived to check in to the resort, and the computers were very much down (this was during the cutover to LILO), so they couldn't even issue us our room keys...they gave us one generic key that would open the room when it was ready (it wasn't), but we were heading to a park that had evening EMH (I think it was DHS)

What I ended up doing is going to Guest Relations in the park, explained it...and they gave us "EMH passes" - basically printed on Fastpass stock, but said that we were eligible for EMH.

It is possible that the resort can issue some other sort of token on indication. Or make everyone use the FP+ readers to verify they are resort guests.

Or maybe non-resort guests can only get a MagicBand that is different in color or style from the resort choices...striped, polka-dotted, just plain ugly, etc. :)

Maybe that's what they should have saved the "Iconic Grey" for. :)
