i SAW THESE FOR SALE FOR $14.99. wHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF THEM? dO THEY GIVE YOU ANY KIND OF SPECIAL TREATMENT? iS IT WORTH IT?

There is no advantage for having these NO!!!

The only thing it does do, is the CM's can see the name of your child, and will call them by their name.

Other than that its a disney thing really LOL!!

$14.99 ???? You can buy the GOH pins at the Christmas store in Downtown Disney for $5.00 each.

I bought them for my grandkids and daughter ... and the CM's (and face characters) will refer to you by name.

On my daughter's b'day she got lots of "Happy Birthday, Vicky" ... she was also wearing a Disney b'day pin

Something to consider.

I read a posting in July before leaving on our trip. It warned of the possible dangers of the badges and name tags for children. They suggested to be safe not to display your child's name for strangers to see. While it may not be as probable for anything bad like that to happen at Disney there is always a very slim possibility that it could.

My two daughters had the name tags our last trip and I did too!! I think I had more fun with mine then they did, lol! One time, I was trying to get thru the line at Spaceship Earth to get to the rest of our group. Most people were letting me thru, but this one gentleman just glanced at me and turned back around. His wife then elbowed him in the ribs and said, "Let her thru, would ya'. She works here." I quickly said "Thank you, sir" and moved on my way!!

I think you've just discovered what I hate about these things....

We tell our kids if they get seperated to look for a CM (one of "Mickey's Friends") and we pull aside a cast member (this year it was someone cleaning rooms at the resort), and show them the badge. I know a lot of other parents do this as well. The GoH badges make this more confusing for little kids - Mickey's Friends wear WHITE badges and other people sometimes wear RED badges that look the same. I'm sure that nearly everyone who wears a RED badge would be willing to help a lost child (except that one weirdo who wants kids to think he is Mickey's Friend but isn't), but I really wish they could have made them look less like CM badges.

Wow - these have certainly gone up - I got them for my girls in March 2002 at MGM, and they were around $6. Also, the CM's badges were white, with a red line around the outside, while my girls were red or blue with Pooh, Mickey etc. on them. My middle daughter spells her name in an unusual way - and she was so excited that they engrave them right there!

We found that they added a bit of magic to the trip - the CM's gave them trading pins, etc., because they knew my girls were big Disney girls!

I don't think the price has gone up, it's just the site the OP checked is WAY overcharging! (main street megastore would be my guess) Gifts of a Lifetime sells them for 7.50, and Magical Mountain will get them for cost + 20%--roughly about the same as GOL. I think that's reasonable if you don't want to wait until you get there to buy them. But 14.99!?! That's Outrageous and a ripoff!!!

Main Street Mega Store isn't offering them for $14.99 - they want $20 !!!

I just checked Magical Mountain and it was $22. Gifts of a lifetime says they are not available right now.
I think we will just wait and get ours at the park.

I got my DD a Pink Disney Princess one at Laughingplacestore.com. for $8.30.

it was worth it as it as it was a nice surprise and a few CM did call them by name. Anything over that price would be a bit much.

Good luck!

Last time we were at DL, my boys had their names put on their capn hook hats and everywhere they went, they were addressed as capn Drew and cpn Cole. Just a suggestion if you didn't want to get the pins. I'm leaning towards both the pins and the hats in January.

That's what I'm planning on doing! I'm planning on getting one for me and my DD. I figure #1 it's different enough from CM's. PLUS, my DD is the only girl out of 4 kids....so since she is always having to deal with "the boys", she'll love the Princess one. princess:

The only thing is I need to get the boys ones then. I was going to wait until we went to Disney World and just buy them there but as I've heard the Princess one is Disneyland one, will need to order it ahead of time, which means I have to order the boys ones ahead of time too, can't have 1 kid getting stuff and not the others. So need to wait until they come in - otherwise I guess I do order the Princess ones and just take my chances on getting ones for the boys when we get there. :earseek:

The e-mail I received from laughingplace where I ordered a GOH badge mid October states they took them off their site due to WDW not having them in stock. They stated WDW usually gets them back in within two weeks. It had been longer, so they listed them on their site as unavailable until (or if) they get them back in stock. They did promise to upgrade my shipping if they became available before we left, so we could have them for our trip. They were $9.40.
