Guest charge for parking rumors

I'll tell you a story. I used to be a security guard at a movie theater. The theater was an older theater, with very strict regulations we had to follow about capacity. We had to ensure the entire facility was empty before we could allow folks in for the next show. So as to not hold up the next show, we would close the rest rooms at the moment the film was over. I cannot tell you how many self-important people would stand there arguing with a security guard that they must go to the rest room right there right now, despite the fact that there were 660 ticket-holder standing outside in the snow waiting to get in. Never underestimate the selfish nature of some people.

Huh? How is having to take a p-ss selfish? If I were denied use of a restroom at a theatre I just paid a ticket for, I'd be mad as h-ll. I don't care if the movie/show just finished, I'd still expect to be treated like a valued customer and allowed to use the restroom. Don't blame these "self-important" people for having to use the restroom, blame the management for doing a poor job of timing their shows.

Bicker states : I find that is true of every single vacation experience I research. Tourism is an industry, and in good times, their objectives are to price offerings so as to take advantage of the glut of disposable income in the economy.
Your statement may be true, but then perhaps I can branch out and take other sorts of vacations. Perhaps, being nickel'd and dime'd to the hilt by disney won't make me see them as THE vacation destination for my family. It used to be we felt like our hard-earned money went for quality at a good price. Now, with extra "rumored" charges (i.e. parking) and disintegrating quality of the restaurants and housekeeping, I can see that other vacation destinations (whatever their price), may have more appeal. If I see disney's quality slipping, but see more hidden charges, then maybe it's time to explore other horizons. So sure vacations in general are expensive, but disney always made it feel worth it. If that appeal is no longer there for us, then it's time to branch out. I haven't given up on disney yet, but I find myself analyzing things a little more.

dumbo71 says : Ahhh,

But you were stating that you might have to cut down the number of trips due to the parking fee.
But we don't know that this is associated with not being able to "afford" the vacation. It can be based on principle alone. Perhaps a person, such as the poster that made the statement, would cut down on wdw trips because they didn't feel they were getting the same value there that they were accustomed to. Some people when they disagree with things such as parking fees, menu changes etc, will feel it's time to move on and spend their money elsewhere. Parking fees and making less trips doesn't necessarily equate to being strapped for cash. I think consumers are more saavy now and evaluate and assess their budgets more closely than maybe they did years ago, because things have become more expensive.

Oh, and for the record, I did NOT start this thread as a pot-stirring topic. It was a legitimate rumor (if you can call any rumor legitimate) that had been posted out there and concerned me in regards to DVC. I was expecting more of a "DVC would/wouldn't/could/couldn't charge members for parking" discussion rather than a "DVC should/shouldn't" arguement. I assumed nobody would think they should. There have been smatterings of an analysis of whether DVC could do this regarding POS and our dues, but it's turned more arguementative than analytical.

We had to pay for parking when we lived in White Plains. We didn't own the "driveway" to our home there, just like we DVC owners don't own the "driveway" at BWV. We paid $60 per month for each car in White Plains, and that was a discounted rate.

What? Looks like White Plains is off my list? LOL :happytv: . That is the dumbest thing. You're telling me you owned the house, but not the driveway. Time for new politicians.
Wow. I see you moved. Good for you :thumbsup2 .

I was wondering about that too. What kind of theatre was it? What about children or pregnant women? Having been one three times (a pregnant woman, not a child ;) ) I can say with some authority that "waiting until you get home" may just not be an option. :goodvibes

Ok I have not read ALL the posts so don't know if this has been hit on. But Charging for parking at the DVC resorts could be good. It would cut down at BWV on the people who park there to go to EPCOTetc......it was so bad during Wine and Food that I saw them Close parking lot off on the weekend . That said all they would have to do is Validate like they do at many other parking facilities if you purchase or are staying there. Al la valet parking (show your membership card):goodvibes

Is it an issue if an appropriate % of the revenue from parking is allocated to DVC to defray maintenance or as an alternative to DVC paying for parking lot security or parking lot maintenance?

Dumbo71 - :goodvibes Thank you.

I now have an incredible amount of respect for you. :grouphug:

(this is not sarcastic - but 100% heartfelt)

now - getting back to this Disney penny pinching stuff - i can see it now. First they charge us to park at the resorts and next they will charge me when I sneak pool towels back to my room.:sad2:

I'm kidding...:rotfl:

;)

You are welcome.

It appears that the vast majority of posters in this thread oppose the parking charge for DVC members.

I wonder how those same people feel about charging non members?

Maybe I'll do a poll.

I'll start.

I don't think members nor non members should be charged for parking.

Pay to park at the parks then a pay to park at the resorts.

Total BS IMHO.

I think offsite people should be charged to park at the resorts. If they eat in a restaurant or make a minimum purchase in a shop, then get it validated for free or reduced parking (with a time limit to prevent them from going to the parks all day with no parking charge). I bet we would not have the parking problems at BW anymore.
