I appreciate your sensitivity and concern to members who are neither as wealthy nor have as accomodating a job as you must have. But, apparently the answer is to just shut up because those of us who really count will benefit. Sorry for expressing an opinion that affects far more DVC'ers than the elitists would like to believe.
I'm sorry, but I am at a complete loss as to how and why a group of DVC members getting a great discount harms others in any way.

I would prefer a discount on park hopper passess as well, but I certainly cannot be angry about others getting a nice discount even if I won't be taking advantage of it. It just doesn't make sense to me. Oh well.

Its wonderful news. I believe Disney will profit in the long run by DVC members spending more at restaraunts, and other WDW activities.

Wow Great news!

Like any Perk, it's not a reward for being DVC, it's an enticement to spend more while at WDW. Last June, we did not have AP's or other tickets and just wanted to eat dinner at Epcot during our stay..(we didn't get to.)

Now we will buy AP's and be able to come and go for the cost of a 5 day PHP. (Plus AP discounts!)

I don't see DVC giving discounts on the PHP's. It doesn't generate any additional business that I can think of. Anyway, I would think that most DVC'ers already stay more than 5 days/year.

I'm wondering if they'll start selling these discounted annual passes at the DVC resorts? That's where most DVC members go. It would be so convenient if they did-check into BWV on 1/2, buy my AP on the spot.

I bought two AP's that we have not used yet. Is there a way to upgrade them to PAP's before we use them and get the discount?

I happy for everyone that can use this perk. Unfortunately I won't because in most cases I go every other year, in between I go else ware maybe they will do something for DVC members on the park hoppers.

For my family of six that makes a huge difference. I just hope it comes to pass.

It is great news that Disney is recognizing the importance of its DVC customers and only means that more perks will come. 80,000 strong and growing is a large segment of the Disney population.

For those who disagree with the perk, I do hope one comes along that fits your needs as well as this one fits mine, but I also realize that not all perks are for everyone.

HBC

Included admissions in the Premium Annual Pass:

4 Disney theme parks
2 Disney water parks
Wide World of Sports
Pleasure Island (I use this one a lot)
Disney Quest

I know you can upgrade APs to PAPs at Guest Services in the parks. I've done this myself. (There are also Guest Services windows outside the park gates if you don't want to enter the park first). Your upgraded PAP will have the same expiration date as the AP you upgraded from.

"DVC Elitist"

I guess the Moooooo was heard round the world!!

I may even have to alter my avatar...maybe.

Doctor P,

There have been many posters like myself, who have suggested a DVC admission perk (and other member perks) would be good for DVCers AND good for Disney. And now it looks like Disney may be seeing that light (or at least reading the DIS). Review some of the past discount threads. There are some posters that think a DVC disounted pass will cheapen the Disney experience, or somehow bring Disney to the brink of financial disaster. It's easy to get trampled by the Mickey-Militia when an "anti-" opinion gets expressed.

We have communicated our desire for a DVC park pass discount to DVC on several occassions, and many others have too. Once all the official details come out, I would let DVC know how you feel. This discount works for us...so I'm happy. I hope there will be some incentive for the DVC hopper purchasers.

Yes, I believe you can do this at any park ticket window.

A great big YIPPEE from this Texas house if this comes to fruition!

perk: an incidental benefit awarded.......

I bought DVC for the great onsite accommodations offered and the years of nice Disney vacations that we can dream about. The "perks" are just that--perks. And, while we dont' play golf, rent water mice, or eat Moroccan food, I'm thrilled that my fellow DVCer's can take advantage of such offerings.

I find it interesting that only one person of the purported "vast numbers" of DVCer's who will be upset with this possible "perk" has chose to fume about it. My guess is that DVC will use the marketing data to determine what the MAJORITY of DVC Members would prefer should they negotiate a park discount for us.

And, what the heck is up with the political comment?

A friend and I were just talking. Wonder if the reason they are holding off until January 2 is that the discounted passes will all be effective calendar year (Jan to Dec). Just an idea.

Well, I guess the true colors of the DVC board are being revealed in this thread. Seems to me not so long ago that the same kinds of complaints about the UPH pass discount were being leveled by the elitists who prefer annual passes and felt they were ENTITLED to a discount. Now that the pigs have been fed, I guess they just want to make sure that no one else gets to the trough, so to speak. Glad you are all so happy that you got what you wanted. Just remember the poor people at the bottom who need to continue to pay their dues despite being shut out of every single special member perk including member cruises, members homecoming, and discounts on park passes, not to mention pool hopping, and annual meetings, and the weekly Member Update (every one of those is something I was personally shut out of through NO fault of my own). As I said in an earlier post, I could be quite happy if some significant concession were made to those of us who cannot stay long enough in a year to take advantage of an annual pass and who have no ability to change vacations to use the pass more than one year. All I want is a comparable value to go to the parks every day that I visit--give me a length of stay pass for $40-42 per day and I'm hooked (even if I don't use all the days because of weather). I don't like the UPH pass or length of stay pass, but this would at least be a substantial and comparable discount that would make me think that somebody does give a rat's you know what about me as a member. I don't think it is at all unreasonable to complain loudly about being shut out after I have been asked for my opinion and apparently ignored, and I constantly observe thousands and thousands of members being given extra perks to which I am never going to be entitled. Makes me believe my money just isn't as good as other people's. I guess you guys just don't understand what it is like to only be able to use points at the highest cost seasons, not have ANY control over when your time to go to Disney occurs and to not have any vacation time that allows you to choose when you have time off, and then be chastised by members of the general public and members of this board for being leeches, lazy, crazy, or unreasonable, and told that you just need to get over it when you happen to stand up for yourself.

Wah, wah! I got some news for ya, Doc... life ain't fair.

You know, if you can't afford the AP's, not my fault, not Disney's fault. (hint: look in the mirror).

And, contrary to what you might believe, this ain't communism, either. Not everyone get's/deserves/receives equal treatment.

You can't afford AP's. Well, sorry. I presume, due to your tag-line, that you own DVC at several resorts. Well, guess what. Not many people can afford to be in DVC at all! Frankly, we saved for a long while to afford the measley 100 points we bought (for cash, since we didn't want to finance). And that's only getting us a studio! You don't seem me complaining that I can't afford to own at multiple resorts or stay in a 3BR villa.

I apologize, but your comments really got to me. You might want to be thankful for what you do have, and what you CAN afford instead of tasting sour grapes for those who have more than you. You know, I'll bet there are a lot of people out there who think that way about you because you have things they don't. How does that make you feel?

For those of you who can afford things that I, or others might not... GOOD FOR YOU!!! In most cases, I'll bet you worked really hard for it and deserve it. Don't let killjoys ruin what you worked to hard for.

Some people belive things should be handed to them, and when they don't have what others do, they call them names to make themselves feel better.

Now, Debbie B, I had the same thought. And if that were the case, or if there were blackout dates, then I wouldn't be so upset. Calendar year passes would go a long way to making me feel better about it being a level playing field.

rayelias,

I am a big boy, but personal attacks of the type you just leveled against me are uncalled for. BTW, I never said we couldn't afford to buy an annual pass. Don't know where you got that idea. I will acknowledge that we would have to spend probably an additional $1500 just to be able to stay long enough to be able to make the annual pass pay in the best year. Sorry, but that is not chump change in my book.

YES!!! This is GOOD news for us, as we live 8 hrs from WDW, and can go more often...

Let's review the +'s-

1. Discount on AP
2. Discount on WDW rates
3. Discount on golf
4. Discount on other things-food, etc..

We will buy the AP's as we can go more often now and NOT worry about passes.. And THANK YOU DVC!!!!

As for Doctor P:I for one,I would get a new job, as I have never heard of 1 week/year!!!! Unless you work at Walmart like my brother, you get 1 week/yr on the 1st year!!!
Also, WHY do you own at multiple resorts, if you only get 1 week/year????? DVC is not worth it if this is the case.

Sorry to be so negative on a post, but I think MOST of the 80000 members wanted a discount of some sort, and I think this is a good start.

Again, THANKS for listening to us DVC!!!!

This is great news. I wasn't planning to go to Disney more than once a year and not back-to-back years but I'll definitely make some changes to my plans to take advantage of this potential discount.

This is the best of both worlds. You can use the AP for two years by simply going the following year before the AP expires. With an additional bonus feature to save even more if you have the opportunity to go more than once a year.

In order to prevent abuse of the DVC perk, I would hope that DVC members would be allow to purchase two AP passes a year in advance and additional AP Passes only in person for guests staying with them upon check-in. I can also understand if they want to create a maximum number of AP allowed per year but hopefully it won't be lower than the number of guests allowed in a Grand Villa.

Hoping for some great news in the coming weeks!!

"give me a length of stay pass for $40-42 per day and I'm hooked (even if I don't use all the days because of weather)."

Doctor P,

Do the math. If you buy a AP for $303 it works out to $43.28 for 7 days. What are you complaining about?

Frank:jester:

/Sarcasm on/

I'm mad! We've been buying AP's for the last 4 years and were not able to use the DVC 10% UPH discount since we went to Disney too often and the AP was a better value.

/Sarcasm off/

I'm sorry but I just couldn't read through this and not make a comment. Do people get mad every Sunday when there's a newspaper full of coupons that they can't use because they don't use those products? If someone doesn't use an AP, never has, then what's the problem? I assume the 10% UPH discount is still in place. Sorry but I don't get it...

Back on topic, I'm glad to see an AP & PAP discount. We usually purchase the AP renewals every year and usually get 8 to 10 days out of them going twice a year. Next year we're skipping our June trip and going two weeks in October. We had thought about going to a PAP since we'd have more time for PI and other things the PAP offers. If these discounts are a reality we will definitely do a PAP next year, and us DVC'ers know that once we get use to something we can't go back!

I'm sorry, but how are you personally shut out of all of those things? Did they call you and ask what days you were planning on traveling and then schedule every event so you could not attend? I can't travel over Christmas, should I be upset that Disney spends all that money on Christmas decorations that I cannot enjoy, through NO fault of my own?

Now there is someone who thinks the way I think (except my $18 would most likely wind up as extra tips on the piano).

This is a nice perk. I guess I'm buying just in time :) Too bad I have to renew my AP on Dec. 5th.
