Guess What I Was Just Told?i Have The Long Awaited Disney Perk,WE GET THE AP AND PAP

Doctor P...I truly am sorry that you are unhappy about this. I wish that DVC could come out with an additional benefit for those who cannot/choose not to purchase AP's. If this really does affect so many (as you wrote in your post), I'm sure that DVC will do something. I think this AP discount came about because so many people were requesting it. Maybe if all of the people who cannot/choose not to purchase would continue to voice their opinions...they will be accomodated as well. I don't think DVC is trying to make an "elitist" statement...I think they are just trying to do the best they can. The AP discount has been a specific request of many members for a long time...that is probably the main reason it is being given.

For those December travelers (like me)....I asked my guide and he said NO discounts will be given before Jan 2. I forgot to ask about kids.

Dr. P, I am sorry you are disappointed. I would be too if a big perk came down the pike and it wasn't one that I could really use. That said, Disney is offering a GREAT ticket at a reduced price. That AP is like a magic key that lets you come and go as you please. If it is close in price to the tix you normally buy, you might try the AP's ONCE and see how you like them. You might be pleasantly surprised. You mentioned a water park day. With an AP, you could go to the MK that evening JUST to see a parade, or JUST to have dinner at a fun restaurant. You mentioned the first and last days of your visit... Same deal. You could check in, unpack, and ride over to Epcot for a great dinner. On your last day you might visit a park for a few hours, just to get on a favorite ride one last time. We often go at night just for Spectromagic or Fantasmic.

Just my humble opinion. You may ultimately decide this perk IS a good one for your group.

Wow, I didn’t realize the election had such an impact on the discounts we may receive as DVC members, I think that should be made clearer before the next election so we all can make an informed decision. The exit poll data I saw clearly showed that discounts on Disney park passes was right after the economy on the list of the most significant issues facing America. I, for one, didn’t realize the philosophy of Bush country was “it’s our way or the highway”, but then again I didn’t realize the Bush administration was against discounts on PHPs. :)

Well Doc P if thats how you feel. Not sure why this pisses you off so bad though. Exactly what discount do you think the VAST majority of DVC'ers would like? If we spend $750 bucks for 2 PAP and get 3 trips out of them that is good, isn't it? Sorry you cannot take three trips down there in a year. We have jobs that have work schedules that are flexible enough to do that.
If you bought an annual pass one year and then returned a week or two earlier the next, you could get 2 trips out of them also. then the next year go back to your original week. You may not get the savings of the renewal price but it would be better than getting all bent at those of us who can use the discount.

I appreciate your sensitivity and concern to members who are neither as wealthy nor have as accomodating a job as you must have. But, apparently the answer is to just shut up because those of us who really count will benefit. Sorry for expressing an opinion that affects far more DVC'ers than the elitists would like to believe.
 I'm sorry you won't be able to take advantage of this discount.

I hope that there is more to this rumor that you can take advantage of.

Come on everyone lets remember what this thread is about.....It's about getting a new perk as a DVC Member nothing more nothing less. It will work for some and not for others such is life. Let's try and remember that and not turn this into anything else.

I did not start this thread to ruffle feathers,if I knew this I would have kept my flap shut:teeth: .Please lets not get all worked up over this they may offer other discounts too. Please lets play nice or I will ask for the thread to be closed.I was just trying to let everyone know about the Wonderful news.

DR. P, AP discounts are perhaps the most requested perk on this board. It's a PERK, not a punishment for those who are able to take advantage of it.

You don't hear the members don't drive or rent cars complain about free Valet Parking.

I take issue with the above posters--this perk is systematically cutting out a whole segment of DVC owners, a segment that I don't believe is a small one given other posts that I have seen on this board.
I'm also one of the types that takes one trip a year. My first trip I purchased PH 7 plus 4's. Great deal through hotwire savings. I'm still happy that many will get a great deal.

I'll also try my best to arrange my vacation to take advantage of an AP. Next year I'll be going April 10-19th. Guess what, I'll purchase an AP, then try and schedule my next vacation less than a year later. If I can do that, my next vacation will be very inexpensive. If I can't, well, it cost the same anyways. Plus AP's have other perks that come along with them(up to 40% off of rooms at times, special events, etc.)

I do wish they would come out with an AP that was good for both Disneyland Resort and WDW since I purchase an AP for DL already.

Do you think they will require people to have a mininum amount of points to get this offer. I could see people buying 25-50 point resales just to save $200 - $400 a year in AP's.

So since I have been saving all year for the AP's for our Dec. trip. Do you think if I promise to spend ALL of the savings at DW they will let me have it? I figure they know I spend all my savings there anyway.:teeth: It's a great perk I know someday I will get to use it.

Fabulous if true! My AP expires in January and I was debating if I should get another for my April trip, or just get a PH. Of course if I just get a PH, the likelihood that I would return again this year goes down considerably. Now that an AP discount is plausible, I may buy one and then I would be tempted to book another couple trips within the next 12 months.

Disney ain't stupid!

Ahhhh lemons to lemonade. Thank you SoCalKDG.

Does anyone else feel like the little kids that were fighting over something and then suddenly the parent just takes it away? Please DVD, don't take this away. We will be good.... :( .

I am kind of bummed that I can't buy APs for my December trip at the discounted price. I know, I know, I am gld we have them, just a little bummed that I can't take advantage of the deal. I wish there could be some slight rule bending.

If wishes were fishes...

This is great news. We just moved to FL so we will probably do the seasonal AP for the time being but I am thrilled for everyone. It is always nice to see DVC perks.

I do wonder how they are going to "control" who gets these passes. They are going to have to put a limit on them somehow.

I think Disney made a very wise business decision giving AP discounts to DVC members. I think it was Rich who referred to DVC park discounts as “golden handcuffs”.

Disney will profit many times the discount total by keeping our spending on-site. I also feel a renewed sense of gratitude or loyalty toward Disney.

I don’t understand the entitlement mentality.

Do you think a DVC owner that lives in Florida would get the $100/$125 off a Florida resident AP/PAP???
Is there any limit on how many each owner can purchase? I have 6 in my household, can I buy 6 passes?

You know, it would be nice if the guides are going to tell everyone who calls, if they would just put all the details on the dvcmember website so we all can see how many passes we can get, where do we get them, etc.

(#@$@^%@#$). I knew something like this would happen, I just purchased two AP's last week. DRATS!

Too cool (and funny)

Hubby was reading our eclubhouse news and said "Come see this honey is sounds rather cryptic". I told him to go check disborads they would have the scoop.

Sure enough, the 3rd thread down.

We were planning on buying 7 day hoppers for our next trip, in March, but it looks like AP is the way to go now. Who cares if we need to pay to get into BB the one day we go.

If that rate is true, it is even cheaper then the FLA resident rate.
