Guarantee room

I booked a VGT room (verandah guarantee) 3 weeks out from our cruise, and while I can't be for certain, I'm pretty sure it said the category would be a 5D room. I normally don't pay attention to the letter codes, but I wanted to be sure I wouldn't end up in a Navigator's verandah, and I remember researching and seeing that I wouldn't since it was a 5 something. I was assigned 10 days out to a 4A room.

So an upgrade to the larger family veranda...very nice :)

I always check that out too. lol :)

I couldn't help it LOL. I actually was going to ask to downgrade once I got to the port, to an oceanview since our sailing seems to have quite a few rooms left. We have never done a Verandah, and I just don't like being up that high (we always stay on deck 2 OV). But, since it's SUCH a good deal, I'm willing to try it!

We only book veranda and especially love Deck 10 all the way forward for the incredible views. :) Enjoy your nice and roomy veranda cabin with exceptional views. Warning...you might not ever book OV again. lol
This is what DCL does...they give you great cabins in hopes that you will want to book them going forward. Now...if only they would upgrade our cabins from veranda to concierge...hmmm...:) That would be awesome.

Is there a way to get them *not* to upgrade you? :D Booked a 7A GTY on the Wonder for our next cruise, because our kid really wants the Navigator's verandah with the maps and stuff instead of the regular 5A verandah we had last time.

You can certainly call and ask for a “do not upgrade” notation to be placed in your file, but I am not sure if that would work for GTY. If the only 7A booking available was GTY status, then at the time you booked there were no specific category 7A rooms available. It is possible someone in a 7A will upgrade or cancel, but it is also possible that all 7As will remain taken and you will get a “better” room. That’s the risk of booking GTY. But there’s no harm in calling DCL to check whether you can request an actual 7A.

Thanks! If we do get upgraded, I'm sure she'll manage to deal with her disappointment. She has so much fun in the Oceaneer's Lab anyway that I think she sometimes forgets she even has a cabin until it's bedtime. :) We originally were going to book a 7A cabin, but ended up booking a 9A (non-GTY) on opening day to reduce costs. Later a 7A GTY became available at about the same price and we're not picky about location so we decided to switch.

You can make a request not to be upgraded but, if for some reason they have to move you, you aren't really given a choice. We always book the room we want. Once we were upgraded from 5A to 4A. Confirmed for us that we don't need a 4A for the two of us and I didn't like the deck (8 on the Magic) so it was nice to find that out without having to pay the difference. One other time we were just moved down the hall to another room of the same category. It was further aft (we'd been closer to mid-ship) and the last room of that category in that section. The upgrade was on our Med cruise and the ship was not nearly full so I presume they were doing some rebalancing for staffing reasons. The move down the hall - I have to presume that it was due to a problem with the room since we had specifically selected it and we were kept in the same category. Turns out we actually liked where we were moved to - so much so that we now tend to book more aft - plus it put us closer to our friends. But we weren't asked - it just happened.
