Grumpy, his wife and their son Goofy dine at the World -- Updated 220 & 232(Pg 15&16)

Loving these reviews so far! Cute family, funny write-ups! And drooling over your Boma and CP picks! I generally dislike buffets but breakfast buffets are a different story, and Boma and CP are my FAVES! Ahhhh I could go for a glass of that Boma frunch right now! :lovestruc

I'm with you -- CP and Boma are our favorites and, after two really bad meals at H&V and a not so good one at Biergarten and Chef Mickey's, we gave up on lunches and dinners.

Aren't those kids adorable? They've kind of become our "adopted" grandchildren until our boys get going on that aspect of their lives. ;)

Great reviews so far! I just managed to get an early CP ressie forour trip...I had one for 10:15, but that time just doesn't work so well for a buffet. Plus, nothing beats walking down an empty Main Street before the park is open!

Cosmic Rays

After checking in at Old Key West and unpacking, swimming, etc., we headed back to the Magic Kingdom for Extra Magic Hours.

We didn't have a reservation for lunch and/or dinner, so we decided to go to Cosmic Rays since we had been to Columbia Harbor House last year (and we are not fans of Pecos Bills or Pinocchios Village Haus or Casey's).

It was really crowded, but the lines moved pretty quickly.

Mark ordered the turkey sandwich; it came on multigrain bread and was huge. He didn't want fries so he went with the apple slices.

Day3156.jpg

He really enjoyed the sandwich; he said the tomatos were really fresh as was the bread.

I ended up ordering a cheeseburger. I was going to get the pulled pork sandwich, but I knew I'd probably have that at Flame Tree the next day. I got the french fries...hey, I'm on vacation, I don't want to eat apple slices:

Day3157.jpg

I have to say that outside of The Plaza, this was one of the better cheeseburgers I've had at Disney.

Neither one of us got dessert as we knew we were meeting up with some urchins later and would probably be getting ice cream and/or popcorn...which we did:

Day3161.jpg

On a 1 to 10 scale, I'll give Cosmic Rays a 6. It's not gourmet sandwiches, but they hit the spot and were cooked well and were plenty big.

On a 1 to 10 scale, I give the Popcorn a 10. I've had popcorn twice since I've been home and it is NOT Disney popcorn; there is just nothing like Disney popcorn. And I am sure Mark would give his ice cream a 10 just because he loves his Mickey bars.

Flame Tree Barbecue

We missed this last year because they were closed, and we have always enjoyed our meals here. This year was no different.

Day4123.jpg

Mark and I both had the Pulled Pork Sandwich. It came with cole slaw and french fries. I don't like cole slaw, so Mark got mine.

Day4112.jpg

I love all the little Disney detail (my chair):

Day4116.jpg

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give Flame Tree a 7. We love the pork sandwiches (much better than the pork at WCC in our opinion) and having a seat and people watching or sitting by the water. I was disappointed that they didn't have the beans this year...yes, I am one who actually enjoyed those baked beans.

Up next...dinner at Epcot with our friends Mary and Jeff (MaryAZ).

Now I have to follow a dining report too? GEEZ!!!!! :headache::headache: :lmao::lmao:

I didn't even know you were doing one. I was all ready to see what you ate at Raglan Rd. and see how you liked it on your TR and i got directed here. :surfweb:

I have to keep you on your toes, Tim, as I'm sure you are half asleep with the baby in the house.

Kath, were the buns at Flame Tree the crumbly whole wheat ones?

She pulled a fast one on you Timmy! :rotfl:

We had no trouble with the crumbly buns at Flame Tree, and I am pretty sure they were not wheat (the one at Cosmic Rays was wheat, but it did not crumble).

You're going to be in trouble with TIM!

Huh, what, who????? :lmao:

I think you've been hanging out with Kathy for too long. :surfweb:

You're going to be in trouble with TIM!
::yes::

OK so, I'm not going to read ahead as to ruin your TR. I stopped at Raglan.

Mark's meal was similar to what I ate there:

DSC00728.jpg

The pork was moist and cooked perfectly. We have eaten at RR 2 times and had great meals both times. I don't eat fried fish, which is weird because I eat every other fried food. :confused3

I think Raglan is a hidden gem in DTD. :thumbsup2

EDIT::: I don't see what I ordered on the menu anymore...

EDITED AGAIN:::: I looked in my TR and what I ordered was Paddy's Pork. They must have changed how they prepare it. It still looks good though. ;)

I totally agree that the popcorn at Disney is the best and I have yet to find a duplicate. Movie popcorn is good, but Disney popcorn is fantastic!

Lol Kathy I had the same attitude as you - fries over apple slices any day whilst being on vacation!

Mmm your treats look very yummy! I have to admit I never got to try Disney popcorn or a Mickey bar :sad2:

I'm glad you enjoyed Flame Tree Barbecue.

Apple slices on vacation :scared1: No thank you, Mister!!!!!!!! :rotfl2:

Your cheeseburger looks yummy - I'd rather have that than the "healthy looking" sandwich. :rolleyes1
That pulled pork sandwich at FT is to die for! Please don't tell me they have done away with the beans :scared1: I used to like those too!!!!!!!!! :goodvibes

Loving the dining reviews.

I have never had a bad meal at CP either. I have not done dinner but I love Breakfast.

Remember over the holidays the park hours are so long - 7 am opening for MK the getting in before park open may not happen. If you for the last seating 10:30 - 11 you may get both breakfast and lunch. :cool1:

Thanks, Heather. LOVE CP first thing in the morning...so glad you got it.

I make the "movie theater butter" popcorn...doesn't even come close to Disney popcorn.

I am loving your reviews, and the food pics - but this pic is my favorite. Soooooo sweet, I love the sparkle in both sets of eyes! :lovestruc

Thanks, Brook. I feel like a kid at Disney, but Cayley just adds that special touch.

No popcorn and no Mickey bar? Oh my....reason to go back for another visit.

Sorry, Karin...but they did not have the beans when we were there.

Thanks, Pat. I would be very upset if I could not get an ADR at CP.

I finally made it over and I'm all caught up!

Raglan Road: That place sounds really good. I was considering it for our next trip. But, I don't think it's going to make the cut. I'll keep it on the list for another future trip.

Boma: I've been hearing so many good things about the breakfast here. Once Reid is older & we're not doing the character meals for breakfast, we'll have to give this place a try. I also want to try Kona for breakfast one day.

Earl of Sandwich: So glad y'all were able to finally give it a try. This place has definitely made the cut for our trip next year. Those sandwiches look delicious! I love a good hot sandwich.

Crystal Palace: I think this is the ADR I'm most excited for next year. Reid has never gotten into Pooh Bear & friends. But, all of a sudden, he likes them. :confused3 I'm going to be trying to get the highly-coveted 805 am ADR!

Cosmic Ray's: This place may not be fabulous but I think it's the best of the counter service places in MK.

Flame Tree: Ed & I LOVE this place. I would like to try Yak & Yeti one day, but we can't bear the thought of going to AK & not eating at Flame Tree. Ed usually gets the ribs & I get the chicken. And I love the beans!

Here! Late, but here! :goodvibes

Now, to go and read!

Okay, good reviews so far! I still haven't tried Raglan Road, I had it down for our last trip but I decided against it because I had to save a dining credit for something else :confused3 don't ask me what. And I really wanted to give WGPE a try, since a lot of people rave about it. :goodvibes

Haven't done BOMA's for breakfast yet (I've done it for dinner-YUM!), that's also on the list, Flaming Tree B.B.Q I also haven't done.
Being a Texas girl, I'm a little more inclined not to do B.B.Q else where for fear I'll be wasting a credit.
Yes, I am a B.B.Q. snob. :snooty: And proud of it! :rotfl: When you live in Texas, you can afford to be a B.B.Q. snob! :snooty:
There's so many great places I have yet to try, I'm happy to see your reports, it helps me to decide on places for the future. :thumbsup2

Can't wait for the rest! :woohoo:

This is one of those meals that we look forward to every trip. First off, I LOVE Pooh and friends, and I love the puffed french toast.

We had an 9:05 a.m. ADR with our good friend, MaryAZ, her husband, Jeff, their adorable kids -- Cayley and Avery, and Jeff's parents.

...
Here are a few pictures of the kids, us and characters to add some "sparkle" to this review:

Up next, Cosmic Rays.

Crystal palace - We ate here for dinner for the first time in May & enjoyed it. If you had to pick breakfast here or Ohana, which would you pick?

Love the photos Kathy - you guys look like you are having such fun!

Cosmic Rays - did Mark like the apples? We all found Disney's apple sauce to be sour, and I don't remember if Katie picked apple slices here because she is not a fan of green apples (sour) AND some places put a preservative on the apple slices that leave a nasty after taste. Just wondering if Disney's apple slices were like that. did you hit the fixin's bar? I took advantage of that to make a nice side salad for my burger :)

Flame Tree - is that in Animal Kingdom? wouldn't they let you change the cole slaw for something else?

Do keep RR on the list for a future trip -- we really enjoyed it. Boma and Kona are well worth the extra travel, depending on where you are staying, to get to.

Reid will LOVE CP...be sure you get him (and yourself) the puffed french toast. I hope you get the 8:05 a.m. ADR.

We've never had a bad meal at Cosmic Ray's; we also really enjoy Columbia Harbor House if you haven't tried it.

We had an ADR for Yak & Yeti (which we ate at years ago) and I cancelled it because Flame Tree was closed last year when we were there and I really wanted to get back.

Here! Late, but here! :goodvibes

I have never had B.B.Q. in Texas...but then I was only in Houston for two days years and years ago. I can understand how you feel though. It's like eating hot dogs or pizza for us...you can't beat Chicago style!

Flame Tree - is that in Animal Kingdom? wouldn't they let you change the cole slaw for something else?

We have not done breakfast at Ohana for two reasons: 1) we are not Stitch fans and 2) I prefer buffet for breakfast over family style so I can choose the food I want...the family style is too limited in what they offer and I'll eat.

Mark did not like the apples; he thought they were very sour. He tried adding some salt or sugar (I don't remember which) and it did NOT help.

I'm sure I could have substituted the cole slaw at Flame Tree, but Mark really likes cole slaw so I just let him have it and I ate more fries than he did. :)
