Grumpy, his wife and their son Goofy dine at the World -- Updated 220 & 232(Pg 15&16)

All caught up again ....... two days of course and I am three pages behind! :scared1:

Kathy, we had a similar experience at the Tangerine Cafe!

Your Norwegian chocolate cake looks yum - maybe I should try it next summer! :thumbsup2

I totally understand why you would not want to return to Tangierine Cafe Kathy. I'm reviewing it today and have to agree with your comments.

Mmm the chocolate cake looks so good - another treat to make the future list :thumbsup2

Mary had the school bread.

Day4172.jpg

Looks like the school bread has shrunk. If I remeber correctly it used to be as big as the plate. Unless that is a dinner plate and not a dessert plate. :confused3

MMMMM chocolate cake.

sorry you didn't like TC. I am not keen on Middle eaStern food. I like some but nothing over there really appeals to me. Maybe someday when I am feeling adventuos or next year food and Wine. The small portions make it easy for me to try it without a huge committment.:lmao:

Thanks on the review on TC, I have never had a desire to eat there and your review has made me stay that way :lmao:

Todd is so bummed they no longer have the meatballs but he likes the falafel so hopefully we will get there this trip...I love the chicken schwarma but mine has never been dry...might have to get the lamb combo, never had lamb other than those meatballs

I love the cous cous but can take it or leave it on the taboulleh

I think I would have liked it more if it were meatballs. I guess I'm just not a lover of "different" foods -- don't like Mexican or Indian food either.

:thumbsup2 to being adventurous! I don't think Tangierine Cafe will ever make our "to do" list. The desserts, however, do look delicious. I've heard so much about that school bread on the boards & it does look yummy. I'll have to try & remember to try it out next year.

Mark is always telling me to try new things (I never liked Cajun and then I fell in love with it). Mark had the school bread a couple of years ago -- he wasn't a fan; I don't like coconut so it is a no-no for me. But their chocolate -- :worship:

Its funny, but we really enjoyed our CS meals in July. We ate at Cosmic Ray's and I thought it was pretty good. Better than, say, McDonald's or other gross fast food...plus, I can get cheese fries of the unnatural variety I never get anywhere else. :lmao: Have never eaten at the CS in Morocco (which I'm not going to try and spell right now). I actually love Middle Eastern food, like couscous and tabbouleh and falafel, but we have a really great place nearby, so it never seems like a must-do while we're at Disney.

I enjoyed most of our CS meals--just not the one in Morocco.

Sorry you weren't a fan of your food at Tangierine Cafe. I love it there - the meat, tabbouleh, hummus, and couscous!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm just more of a simple, old-fashioned meat and potato type of gal (thanks, daddy).

Well, if it counts for anything.... your picture of your meal looks good even if it didn't taste good. ;)

Personally, I have only been there once and I was feeling a tad under the weather...so not sure if I can give it an accurate assessment.

It did look good; and it wasn't awful, just not to my liking.

Just caught up with you reviews, I have a good excuse for being late, I was visiting the happy place :goodvibes

I would love to try Boma for breakfast some time, we have tried dinner and loved it

Sorry that Tangierine Cafe wasn't great for you, it's one of my favourites

Looking forward to reading more popcorn::

I hope you had a good time at your "happy place." You must try Boma for breakfast -- it really is good.

subbing and will go back to read!!!

Hi, Rosie...glad to have you here as well.

Well, good for you for trying something different!!!:goodvibes I really wanna try TC as well, I never had lamb but my DH likes it. I think the lamb meatballs would have been a good way to try it for the 1st time. I'll check plates & nose around before I order to see if I wanna try it. I do like hummus but everything else is new to me.

AS for the slushes are they real strong? B/c I'll have my 1 year old w/ me & want a light cocktail. If not, I'll know for DH & I to share one. They look good from pix I have seen!

Oh & Lovin' the review!!! I always check back to my favorite ones!! =)

I was very proud of myself that I tried something new. I really think if it had been meatballs, it would have been more appealing.

Yes, they can be a tad strong...I would recommend drinking slowly and NOT through the straw. The first time I had one last year, it kind of went right to my head...but then we hadn't eaten since very early that morning so that may have had something to do with it. :rolleyes1

Geoff really likes the taboulah and the cous cous salad. I love hummus, so we usually ask for extra hummus for the bread. I do like cous cous, but the salad is cold, so I'm not a huge fan of that.

I love the meat though...and again the hummus <3

It's so good that WS gives us these options to try these different things to see if we care for them. I'm glad you and Geoff enjoy it.

sad to hear you didn't love Tangerine Cafe! It's on my next time list!

I love Kringala bakery <3

Jenn, that bakery is to die for. :)

Norway is must do for our next trip since we didn't make it this time! The problem is that Epcot has too many places to eat! :lmao:

Epcot has way too many places to try and we still have so many we have not tried. :scared1:

Yes, try the chocolate cake next summer -- it was so yummy.

I see that you and I both had the same feelings for Tangierine. Just not "our" cup of tea.

Looks like the school bread has shrunk. If I remeber correctly it used to be as big as the plate. Unless that is a dinner plate and not a dessert plate. :confused3

I don't know if it shrunk or if it was a bigger plate...I can't remember.

I agree on the chocolate cake -- MMMMMM.

I would like to do F&W one year just so I can sample things and then know if I like them.

Thanks on the review on TC, I have never had a desire to eat there and your review has made me stay that way :lmao:

No, don't go. :lmao::lmao::lmao: Seriously, if you don't like that type of food, it isn't worth the trip.

LOL!! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:Thanks for letting me know. I'll keep the slush in mind & maybe skip it for breakfast!!:lmao::lmao:

My pleasure. I had two of them our last night at Epcot...and I felt fine (but we had eaten a big dinner at LeCellier prior to). :)

Tuesday, September 27 --

This morning we were going to hit Soarin' and then have breakfast at Sunshine Seasons. Unfortunately, plans for Soarin' didn't go our way so we did a couple of other things and then headed back to Sunshine Seasons for breakfast.

I had really wanted to get the kids French Toast platter because I heard so much about it. Unfortunately, the line was a mile long and we didn't want to wait in it because we had several things we wnated to get done before our son showed up for our remaining days at Disney. Instead, we got:

For Mark -- a coffee, banana and a chocolate chip muffin (you have to have that banana to make up for the chocolate chip muffin calories, I guess)

Day5015.jpg

For me -- a chocolate croissant and an orange juice; I really wanted a cappucino but, believe it or not, they did NOT have them

Day5017.jpg

The croissant was tasty; however, I'm not a big fan of chocolate in the morning. But it hit the spot and tied me over for the time being.

Mark said his muffin was good, but he ended up being in the bathroom after breakfast for a little while. He wasn't sure if it was the muffin or the coffee, but something did not sit right with him.

On a scale of 1 - 10, I give it a 6. Nothing special, but it hit the spot.

Up next, our first time at Olivia's

The muffin and croissant look tasty. I use to love chocolate croissants at Disney. But it's been years since I've been able to eat chocolate. Sunshine Season's doesn't rank high on my scale either. Looking forward to the Olivia's review!

Tuesday, September 27

The original plan this evening was to eat at the Captain's Grille which I have seen rave reviews on. However, our ADR was for 5 or 5:30 and we just thought it would take too long for our meal before heading over to the MNSSHP Party. Therefore, I was able to switch us to Olivia's Cafe instead, getting a 4:30 ADR. This was convenient for us because we were staying at OKW and Mary and gang just drove over.

When we checked in, they asked if we wanted the lunch menu or the dinner menu. If we wanted the dinner menu, we would have to wait until 5:00 to sit down at a table and order. Mary and gang weren't there yet, and I made the executive decision to go with lunch as I knew the kids would be anxious to get to the party.

I present "our" dinners:

Andy started off with a Long Island Iced Tea, a long time favorite drink of his.

Day5004-1.jpg

He then had the Soup of the Day which was the Tortillo Soup. He said it was nothing special:

Day5008-1.jpg

For his meal, he went with the Traditional Club Sandwich -- turkey, mayo, etc. and the potato chips. He said the turkey was nice and fresh and hit the spot since he hadn't had anything to eat since he got to the airport that morning:

Day5010-1.jpg

Mark went with the Cuban sandwich -- which was sliced pork, ham, swiss cheese and potato chips. He really enjoyed this. I don't have a picture of his drink and, truthfully, I can't remember if he had a beer this night or if he just had an iced tea:

Day5013-1.jpg

Me -- I had a Pina Colada (okay, I had two....ssssssh....don't tell anyone). It (they) were quite tasty:

Day5003-1.jpg

For my meal, I went with the Angus burger with Cheddar Cheese and Applewood Smoked Bacon and french fries. This was a REALLY good burger and I ate the entire thing.

Day5011-1.jpg

In case anyone with little ones is reading along, I'll post a picture of Cayley's meal (I guess I didn't get one of Avery's):

Day5009-1.jpg

Cayley must have liked it because she put a really good dent in it.

We didn't get dessert because we knew we were going to the party and probably getting trick or treat candy or popcorn and ice cream.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I definitely give Olivia's an 8+. The service was outstanding (despite the table next to us where some boy was playing with legos and kept dropping them on the floor and chasing under the other table by us to collect them...good thing it wasn't my table or I would have had a word with those parents). The food was good and the atmosphere was relaxing. Next time, we are going to try breakfast.

I've never had a meal at Olivia's. I heard that from a CM that it's a hidden gem. I heard that 27th party was a mass! We actually went to that one and we saw more people than we ever did whole week! Hopefully, you had a better experience!

Sounds like a really good dinner. And your cheeseburger looks delicious! Not to mention the pina colada.....I could go for 1 or 2 those right now.

Olivia's is one of my favorites...especially for breakfast. It's so nice and relaxing...especially when staying at OKW!

Jill in CO

Chocolate for breakfast?! YUM! Actually, depending on my mood that may or may not be too sweet for me. And, yes...what is up with the lack of any coffee drinks in DW?

Never been to Olivias... burger looks yummy. :goodvibes

Yay for Olivia's!! I only had the banana bread french toast once & it is :cloud9: & other options look great too!

I can't believe Sunshine Seasons didn't have a cappucino.

I'm glad you enjoyed Olivia's - I have read many positive reviews of this place and may have to check it out one day.

I took Karin's advice and we had breakfast there on our last morning ,I agree it is a hidden gem !!We were a party of 10 and they had our table all ready and we were seated immediately !The chef came out and went over the menu for our lactose intolerance guys and even made special pancakes and potatoes for them. We really enjoyed it and I will be back again !!! That bread pudding sundae is calling my name !!!
