I just saw something about a cheerleading competition May 1-3 at WDW. Is there a website that lists what large groups will be at WDW? Someone said 40,000 people. Should I be worried? I'm there May 3-9. What parks should I avoid on Monday?

We've been there several times when the cheerleader competitions, Pop Warner, and other large student groups go.....I seriously doubt it's 40,000 people. In my opinion, they cause most of their trouble at the hotel (usually the values...though they have overflow at POR the problems are rarely tolerated there). My trouble, I mean the cheering and other yelling in the middle of the night, the mass entrance to breakfast. In the parks they aren't nearly as bad as the foreign groups.....the cheer teams tend to be in groups of 10 or so, not 100 like certain groups.

They have their competition all day long, over at ESPN (usually), so they won't even be in and around the parks until evening....and you arrive their last night so you aren't even likely to see them. Unlike things like the marathons where families either arrive early or stay late....the cheer teams leave immediately afterwards because of school...they don't get extra days off.

You'll see large crowds in EPCOT for the Garden Fesitval, especially on the weekends and later in the evenings.

Do you know if there is a site that will tell me if any other large groups are at WDW during my dates?

Too many zeroes!LOL Just a guess but 4,000 Cheerleaders sounds about right for The Summit.:)

You are in good shape-The Summit will be winding down and the 15s won't be there until June/July.:)

No site anywhere that lists all WDW Groups.

No site that I know of. The cheerleading competition is the Summit. It is held at ESPN. I would NOT hit up DHS Sunday night as they usually have a party there of some sort. Not sure they are this year. The competition is complete Sunday evening and most all will head out late Sunday or Monday. Would imagine the food courts as the All-Stars and CBR will be busy Monday AM, other than that not too bad!

While it won't show every group of course, you can look at the ESPN Wide World Of Sports website for their calendar.

Looks like there's a half-marathon while you're there too.

You scared me there for a second as I will be down in WDW at that time and I was saying "How could I miss that there was a half-marathon going on!?" But it's the Tinker Bell Half Marathon in Disneyland, so no worries. :)

There is a race at WDW on May 2, the Expedition Everest Challenge - it's a night race that takes place in Animal Kingdom. There may be a few runners who stick around after the race for a vacation the following week (like me!)... but it's a relatively small race (under 5,000 runners, I think) and probably won't affect crowds. However you may see a few people in the parks wearing their race medals!

There used to be a Minnie Marathon Weekend that fist weekend in May which some may be remembering. But then runDisney evolved as did many more run weekends and that race disappeared. That weekend you have the Expedition Everest runDisney races May 1 - 2 and the Summit Cheer competition which is 500 teams May 1-3. These are event dates and would not include park days before or after. There are always lots of "events" going on at Disney that are part of the ESPN complex, conventions and otherwise that offer good hotel rates, discounted park tickets and more. For the most part you can't avoid them totally, your hotel choice is probably your best way to stay clear.

Sorry! Chalk it up to being up at 4AM with a sick kid!
