Hi! We have a flight from Boston and are getting in on Thursday night at around 9pm. I am hoping that some of you seasoned veterans can tell us what the best option is to get to the grand californian! Van, bus, taxi?

Thanks so much!!!:flower3:

I noticed that some of the information about car seats say 6 years old or 60 lbs, when it's now 8 years old or 4'9". Also, they make the car seat seem optional for shuttles. Car seats are not optional for children under 8 years of age unless they are taller than 4'9".

Edited to add: I was referring to the first post, since I know most people won't read through 9 pages to see if the requirements have changed.

With apologies to the OP, I am so glad to stumble upon this. Can you clarify for me.

DD8 will be 8 and 48" tall. DD5 will be approx. 40" tall and 32 lbs. Since you seem to be up on the requirements, can you help? We will have a rental car from SAN to our hotel in Anaheim. Then we will need ART or similar while in Anaheim and finally a shuttle to LAX on departure.

My plan is to bring our front facing booster with headrest which uses the car's shoulder belt for DD5. Then we will rent a booster for DD8 if required with our rental car. Is the booster necessary according to California law for DD8? Is it either/or? In other words, she will be 8 but nowhere near 4' 9". The same is a question for DD5. She is old enough at home for a booster, but very light weight. Will it be a problem to go without a 5 point harness?

My thought is that legally DD8 may not need a booster, in which case we are fine with our booster from home on the shuttle to LAX. I assume we would also need one on a taxi? What about the buses like ART?

If this isn't the appropriate thread, please PM me. Thanks!!

Sorry for the tangent in my previous post. I am interested to hear suggestions since we will be departing from LAX ourselves. Thanks!

I've always used the Disneyland Express shuttle. I've thought it was the easiest. I've never had any problems with them. Also, If you are staying at the Grand Californian, that is usually the 2nd or 3rd stop. It always goes to the Disneyland Hotel first, then hits either GC or PP next.:)

I am in the process of making arrangements with DK Livery, the reviews seem really good! In the email which was sent to me today, they wrote: "If you travel with a child under 8 years old or 4' 9" in height, regardless of age, are to be transported in the back seat of the vehicle in a child restraint system". It did sound like they would be willing to provide the seat, if you let them know. I do not know this for sure though. You do not need a restraint on the ART, whoever asked that question. :wizard:

A taxi from LAX to DLR can cost upwards of $100. Disneyland Resort Express, the semi-official airport transfer service run by Gray Line, picks up from LAX until 10:30 p.m. and the Grand Californian is the second stop after the Disneyland Hotel. You can find rates and download a PDF brochure here: http://graylineanaheim.com/shuttles.shtml

We used DK Livery last month and they were fantastic. They meet you in the airport so you don't have to wait around or circle the airport in a shuttle. It'll cost $90 flat rate including all taxes and gratuities and they will provide you with a car seat if you ask.

Why not rent a car, might end up being cheaper than ground transportation. Costco Travel has great rates - I was able to get a mid-sized SUV last week for ~20.00 a day including tax.

We are flying into LAX on July 17 and priced cars through Costco. It was going to cost us $504 for 1 week to get it at the airport. That is crazy...We have opted to have our travel agent book us the transportation shuttle from LAX to Carausel and from Carausel to LAX. In the meantime we will be renting a car from Enterprise .5 miles from the hotel for $230. Even adding in the round trip transportation from LAX it is only gonna cost us $350 vs $504. Now if the cost of the rental car would happen to go down at LAX which with what it appears to be doing right now it won't we can change our reservations as needed. For now the rental car place will pick us up at the hotel.

Wow crazy, did you try the new low price finder, you can get a Minivan from Avis for ~$340.00, even much less if you need an intermediate sized car.

I decided to rent a car, and once I did I checked the prices every day, usually twice a day. The prices honestly change that often.

We're going for 10 days at the end of April, and I managed to get reservations for a Full Size car from Thrifty, Dollar, and Enterprise all around $170 total (taxes and fees included) for 10 days. That's less than the cost of a round trip taxi.

My suggestion would be to start checking prices right away, and check them every day. Orbitz.com is a good place to get a good overview of current prices for a number of different companies (although they don't show Enterprise).

Just yesterday I noticed that in the morning Entrprise was offering a compact car for the dates of my trip for $140 total (but I wanted to stick with my full size car), and by the afternoon it was $360.

For most agencies, you can make reservations with only your name and an email address. You don't need to book with a credit card. And if the prices go down you can just alter your reservation to reflect the new lower price.

As soon as I found a rate that I could live with (even though it wasn't as low as I wanted it) I made the reservation. Then I kept on checking, and every time the price went lower, I updated my reservation. It took some work, but in the end I'm thrilled to have a full size car for 10 days (for trips to the grocery store and a trip to Seaworld) for only $170.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Our problem is that we only have a debit card and our credits not great. We found enterprise will rent to us with a round trip flight and debit card. Costco is also getting us a full size car for the price of a standard plus a free secondary driver for free. Don't get me wrong I am stalking those prices though. It's costing us a decent penny for a trip from Ohio to California lol

Yes, California is expensive - it was a shock to see that every theme park/attraction charges $87.00 for admission!

You might want to check out the Southern California CityPass (occasionally available on Costco) which bundles admissions to several theme parks for a lower rate. There is also a Go San Diego pass which is good but does not have Disney admission and focuses on San Diego instead.

Sorry for the ot question do you collect your own bags if you use disney transportation or do they collect it for you?

Disneyland does not have a Magic Express like WDW. The Disneyland Resort Express is a shuttle bus service run by Greyline and you have to collect your own luggage.

Your transportation options are here: http://disneyland.disney.go.com/plan/guest-services/transportation/

Personally I would drive considering how far Anaheim is from the LAX (Inglewood). Its basically across down - about 40 minutes drive, 35 miles?
