Anyone else here a fan of the ground floor?

For this trip we were ground floor at both BCV and SSR. We really liked it and think we will request this next time. It was great not having to struggle with elevators and luggage or stairs after a long day in the heat.

We loved our 2BR at BCV...it was 107 -- right behind the Ariel DVC statue (I think they knew how fond I am of Ariel). Excellent location ---> close to the path leading to SAB and check-in and down the hall from the quiet pool. Also very close to parking. LOVED this room and its location. I hope we get lucky here again.

At SSR, we were in a ground floor Studio, garden view in Congress Park Room 2536. I absolutely loved being able to park our car close to our room. It will take getting used to not having an indoor hallway, but the trade off of parking closely is a plus.

When I first saw the subject line I thought you were going to ask about ceiling fans in ground floor rooms :)!

At OKW I request a first floor room or an elevator building for medical reasons. I rent an ECV from an off site medical equipment supplier & obviously cannot take it up stairs :). My request has always been met. Last week I had a first floor room that was a straight walk out the door to the parking lot - it was wonderful!

I also liked the ground floor studio we got on our first trip to BCV. It was so convenient no to have to wait for the elevator after a long day, just walk down the hall to your room.

Ground floor at the BWV at the quiet pool is our favorite. Also had one on the standard view side one time. Both were outstanding. Never had ground floor at VWL or BCV but have requested it at the BCV and wasn't able to get it.

Two for two we've had ground floor rooms (one at YC, one at OKW) so we have nothing to compare it to. I was always a little sad b/c I thought we were missing a view. Now maybe I feel a little better. I have to say that both were very convenient.

We had a ground floor at OKW (bldg 43) one time because my mil was with us and undergoing chemo treatments. Normally we request higher up because I prefer the privacy and view of an upper level villa/room. I didn't think I was going to be too keen with being on the ground but we actually really liked it. We loved feeding the ducks and swans right off our porch---and the kids thought it was a hoot when the frogs came hopping across the patio. :bounce:
PS- I'm with Judith.....I also thought you were talking about ceiling fans on the ground floor ! lol

Another vote for ground floor rooms. We had a studio at VWL last May that we really enjoyed. It faced to walkway to the lodge and bus stop. It was fun to sit out and listen to folks talk about how much fun they had! Our room was close to the lobby end so the patio was a bit hidden. It was very convenient, no need for elevators, no long halls at the end of the day, across the hall from the laundry, and it was a dedicated studio (no connecting door to another room) and had a bit extra room and an extra closet. There was no neighbor noise, except what one would normally expect.

BTW, I am one of those that is usually happy with our room. In other words, not real concerned about view, etc. My only concern at check in is non-smoking.

Another thought about ground floor rooms while I am thinking of it ... last week we had a one bedroom unit in building 62 at OKW. I noticed that outside the patio we lots of calladium plants. They were gorgoeous (pink & green, red & green, etc.). They do not grow very tall, so they shouldn't block a guest's view from the patio.

LOL - Sorry about the confusion. I edited my original post to clarify my Subject.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who liked the ground floor -- for many of the reasons you all are mentioning! :)

We just returned from SSR and had a ground floor room (2547). The only draw back was that since we had a DD view it was a bit hidden because of the trees. But it was worth not having to go up and down the stairs, especially in the heat. I would definately not mind having a ground floor room again (with or without fan)

LOL, so funny you posted this.

That is the very reason I posted a question asking about recent visits and the noise factor at SSR and was thrilled to see your comments.

We much prefer a first floor if its a quiet one. Thanks for sharing.

My wife uses a wheelchair so a ground floor in OKW is a must for us. Other than that we don't mind upper floors at WDW.

We stayed in 2BR ground floor (154) at BCV which opened on to the pool
deck. The kids just love the easy access to the pool. I would also
request same local again.

I like the ground floor at OKW. Don't have to drag the luggage up the steps and you're close to the ducks and rabbits that hang around the porch. At BWV or other resorts, I prefer an upper floor for a better view.

OK all you ground floor fanatics, do you ever feel like they are less private when you are sitting out on your balcony (porch?)?

Just wanted to give you the head's up.....you don't need to limit yourself to the ground floor at OKW if you don't want to. Bellhop service will do that :D Since you mentioned you prefer the view of the upper floors (as do I), figured you could request upper floors at OKW if you wanted.

To add a different twist. There are those who want to ask for Ground floor for medical reasons but exclude HA rooms from their request. I have no problem with the request, it is simply a request. The problem I have is when some of these people feel they should have priority on the request or get upset if the request is not met. It's not that much different, IMO, than the one that gives DVC 3 units they will accept, it's simply an unreasonable request.

Maybe I am missing the point, but expecting a priority for a first floor at OKW for medical reasons is not unreasonable in my view.

If you cannot use stairs, a first floor unit at OKW is a necessity and is far different from someone desiring a certain view.

When we request a first floor for medical reasons at OKW we stipulate that an accessible room is not required. We don't care if we get an accessible room or not because she can get around within the unit. In my view that gives the room assigners more flexibility.

Jim, thank you for your comments ... well said! That request is not unreasonable in my opinion either. I am not supposed to do stairs as per my doctor. DVC has always been very thoughtful about granting my requests.

Over the years I have had chats with front desk CMs including room controllers. We have chatted about what might make a reservation difficult to fulfill. Obviously the more stipulations &/or the more specific the requests, the more difficult it is to get everything. It is hard to fulfill a request for two non-smoking, one-bedroom units on the ground floor in the same buildings, but only buildings "abc," "def" or "ghi." Other reuqests I have heard about include which direction the morning sun comes in the window, whether the bedroom is off to the left or right in a one or two bedroom unit, etc.
