I have a large 10x12 hill near my patio that I would like to cover with some sort of plant that spreads ex: Ivy. I'm not sure if I should use ivy though. Does any1 know of anything that is inexpensive and spreads to cover a large area? Thanks

You didn't say if it is a shady area or not. Packysandra (sp?) is good for shady areas.

I'm not an Ivy fan (in my own yard, but it is nice elsewhere!)

Vinca, ajuga, sweet woodruff, pachysandra. Sweet woodruff is my favorite.

All of these prefer pretty good soil, and some moisture. If the "hill" is a cutaway that you are trying to prevent erosion on, you might need to terrace it. If it's a gentle slope, they will probably work.

I also like sweet woodruff. I plan on putting that in my front yard this year.

Creeping phlox is good too. It has a beautiful bloom in the spring, then turns to a green shrubish color for the rest of the summer/fall.
