There are 4 mom's and 5 kids all 7yrs old staying at AKL for 6 days - we are trying to decide what to do about snacks, bottled water and wine for us moms :) I dont know how close a grocery store is to the resort. We are trying to figure out if we should just buy the things we need at the gift shop or take a taxi to a grocery store but not sure how much that taxi ride would cost or order from the Garden Grocer.

Can anyone please give me some suggestions on what you think would be the cheapest and possibly the easiest.

TIA,
Melissa

I felt that the grocery selections at the resort gift shop was extremely limited and over-priced. If you only have a couple of things to buy, then it's probably worth it to just bite the bullet and pay the inflated prices.

But since there are so many of you and you will be staying almost a week, I think that a grocery order would be less costly. A taxi ride would probably run about $30 with tip if you're a fast shopper. Garden Grocer has a minimum order of $40 with a $12 delivery fee for orders under $200. Their costs are higher than if you were to do the shopping yourself but they are a time-saver. Do you really want to take 5 kids grocery shopping when Mickey is waiting for them?

I am all about the We Go Shop/Garden Grocer delivery!

Are any of you driving? I'd buy beforehand and bring in the car if so.
If you are flying and won't have access to a car, then Garden Grocer or similar company is a better bet than the gift shop.

Have one or two adults take a taxi to the Super Target on Rolling Oaks Blvd in Kissimmee. It's less than 10 minutes away just off Sherbeth Rd.
I think it is like $12 each way. There is also a Liquor Store and a Flippers Pizza in the same plaza (if you want to bring dinner back, one large and one medium one topping were just on special for $21.99). Super Target also carries beer and wine. Go with a detailed list, shopping should not take you long at all. Prices are so much more reasonable than garden grocer and you can get exactly what you want.

Had a great experience with Garden Grocer in January.

Re Super Target
Hi
looking at this map
it says restricted usage roads
do you know if cabs can take this route?

It's a $0.50 toll, I can't imagine a cab wouldn't go that way.

Check out Kelly's Personal Disney Service, she does grocery shopping a delivery, Disny gift bags, and several other types of delivery to the Disney Resorts and she may be less expensive than Garden Grocer. She has a webstie and a Facebook page.

There is no toll. Right at the entrance of AKL is Sherbeth Rd, take a right this will lead you to the main road in Kissimmee. Super Target is down about 1 mile on the left. I was up and down this road all last week, we stayed offsite at Windsor Hills.

Ok, I thought this was the one a little further on down, closer to the turnpike. I didn't realize there was another one that close.

Does Garden Grocer mark up the prices? I thought they just charged whatever the grocery store charges. Also how do the grocery delivery services compare and will they pick up beer and wine too?

We have used WEGO shop 3 times. They are fantastic, they charge a rate based on how much you spend. You decide where you want them to shop. They will stop at a Liquor store, no additional cost. I absolutely love them. Hope you have a wonderful trip.

We also shopped there twice last month during our stay at AKL. It was literally a five minute drive and right across the street was a Publix, but we were able to get everything we needed (and more!) at the super target.

You can have a case of water shipped to the resort from Walmart (I think it is under $5), and actually I thought there were a number of reasonably priced wines in the gift shop at AKL when I was there in January '09.

I would do Garden Grocer for the groceries and buy wine at the AKL gift shop.

They had some different bottles of wine when I stayed there.

I wanted to but never did buy one.
