I usually get up at 7am and go to the store on a Weekend Morning. There is never anyone there and I can shop in peace.

I went today at 10:30...and I didnt leave the store until 12:45. Why? Becuase I ran into about 7 people (moms mostly) that I had to sit and have a 15 minute conversation with. It took forever!!!

Has this happened to you?

Around here, the grocery store is the place to meet & greet people! ;)

dw gets poed cause iut takes so long for us to go to store, i know everyone in town so every time we go we run into someone wanting updates etc the meter reader even knocked this morning when he came by to see how i was doing..lol.. its one of those small town things you either love or hate, and lately that has depended on what day of the week and what timeof day..lol there is one guy i know well, have yet to see him anywhere other than grocery, same aisle each time, and doesnt matter what time of day we are there..lol i think he follows me ..lol

I often run into a few people I know when I go to the store. I don't spend 15 min. a person talking though!! Guess it would depend on who it is though.

This usually happens to me with a catch....its usually when I have forgotten something so I am inevitably in a hurry, wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt, no makeup and my hair in a bun. I usually run into someone who will go on to tell everyone she knows who knows me or who knows someone who knows me and sooner or later I am sick by the way I looked or having a rough time in my marriage.....I hate living in an area where everyone knows everyones business and everyones business is my inlaws.

YES!!! When we go on Sunday nights, we meet so many people there!! It's crazy! One time it was literally every aisle we walked down, we'd run into someone we know. It was annoying! LOL

HollyJoy - you are right, I should have said on average. One of the moms was a really good friend and the kids were talking as well and then other moms were just a quick 5 minutes.

CindyGusGus - Isnt that the truth!!! My aunt is always saying you have to look good because you never know who you are going to run into. It always happens to me at the worst times!:p

Not too often, because we don't have kids, so I don't know all the moms in town. My town is a pretty family oriented palce, so I do see a lot of other people going through what you're saying.

I can pretty much run through unscathed...not too many folks interested in conversing with a childless woman!

All the time..but I try not to talk too long as I have so little time off to shop. Walmart Super Center is the meeting place, it is a small town and most everyone ends up in there sooner or later. We often joke and say WALMART is the place to be saturday night around here....:)

Yes. I like to shop early in the morning when there is hardly anyone in the store and while I can leave my daughter with my husband and don't have a whining baby with me.

hmmm....you would probably be very angry with all my guy friends who tell me the supermarket is a great place to pick up women!

My dad's involved in town politics where I live. We can't go anywhere without running into his lawyers, the town lawyers, people fighting battles against the town, cops, firefighters, town officials, etc. And he knows them all. He goes to vote and we're down at the school for 2 hours even though it takes him just 2 minutes to vote since he writes most of the ordinances that are being voted on anyway. So wherever we go it takes 10 times as long to get out of there. People know his kids too, so we can't even go places without him without people coming up and talking to us. We can be in another state and still find people that know him:rolleyes: . And it appears that he's informed his cop pals as to what I drive. They all wave as I drive by them. I can assure you this doesn't happen to normal people.

Hey mama-

I'm glad you got to see some of your friends :). It sounds like you are popular and fun to be around in "real life", too. Good for you ::yes::. It may sound hokey, but we just have to see such times as opportunities - not interruptions. It's just life.

I'm afraid that wouldn't save you from "encounters" in our stores. It seems to be the place to meet people from church - young or old, male or female. We always encounter at least 6 - 10 people we know who want to talk & at least half of them are men w/o their spouses!

I usually go right around 8am on Saturday(if I go any earlier the deli isn't running, and they don't have the meat and fish out yet). There is hardly anyone in the store, and that's the way I like it. I have noticed that the other shoppers at that hour are other middle aged guys by themselves(just like me). :D

I met my 1st wife in the supermarket:)

You are right Krista...I should look at it differently. When I was in Philly and Ohio, I didnt mind in the least.

But after a while, I tried to make it into a game with my kids so they didnt get bored. I was like, oh..there is so and so...let's try to hide so we dont have to talk. It didnt work, but my kids were laughing.

Oh, GO ON!!! Me out of bed at 7 a.m.???:scared: Tell me, what's it look like that time of day?:hyper: No, I go to the grocery store usually around 8 p.m. DH goes with me sometimes on week-ends and that's a catastrophe! He throws junk food and weird, very expensive items in the cart. He likes smoked octopus, eel and all sorts of smelly bizarre stuff. Come eat with us sometime! :rotfl:

LOL! iloveepcot!! I am out of bed by 3:45am..and it looks almost the same as 8pm at night.
