Preparing to stay on-site for the very first time. We're staying at OKW. I'm wondering how the grocery prices are at the Goodings grocery store. (Do I have that name right??) We will have a rental car, and would be willing to go to another supermarket nearby if prices are better. We won't be doing gourmet cooking or anything, but we do plan to make good use of the kitchen in our unit.

What about coupons? Are they accepted at the Goodings place? Do they double coupons down there anywhere. We're spoiled, because EVERY grocery store around home here doubles coupons.

Would be grateful for any money-saving grocery shopping advice/info any of you might have! ‡

I have heard that Goodings is very expensive.

Their excuse is that Disney owns the land and charges lots of $$$.

There is a Publix nearby there that is much less expensive.

There is a comparison somewhere on this site, the search engine is down right now.

Hi Travelbug!

You will enjoy OKW. It is a very relaxing to go "home" to after a full day at the parks. We typically do our shopping at the Super Walmart because thay have both the department store as well as groceries. There is always someting we forget; film, batteries, suntan lotion, coolers, etc. They also have a good selection of Disney souvenirs and t-shirts at affordable prices.

To get to either from OKW, exit the resort and follow the signs that lead to MCO-"Greenway route".(Don't worry, it's not near the airport).
After about 4-5 miles, turn right at the intersection with SR 535 (past the Holiday Inn Family Suites).
Another 5-6 miles will be the intersection with SR 192. Publix is on the lefthand side. (I forget, is there is a driveway before the light near the 7-11?).

To get to Walmart, make a left onto 192 and continue another 5-10 miles. It will be on the right side, past Medevil Times dinner theater.

Hope this helps, Steve

Goodings is higher in price, but it's extremely easy to get to from OKW. We usually make 1 or 2 trips there while we are OKW. Even got our Thanksgiving boxed dinner from there couple of years ago. However, if you wish to visit a Super Walmart, with prices more like what you are used to at home, probably, here are directions. When you exit OKW, go right. Continue until you come to a stop sign (I think Community Drive). Turn right and continue to Disney Marketplace, which you will see on your right. Turn LEFT onto Hotel Plaza Blvd. when you come to the next light, turn right onto 535. Drive until the intersection of 192 and turn left. Walmart will be 2 or 3 miles on the right. You will love OKW! I have been a member there since '94, and it is wonderful. Have a great trip!

All information is really helpful. It is great to have specific directions to both Publix and Super Wal-Mart. Also good to know that Goodings is very handy for quickie stops if needed.

Any idea about coupons down there? Every little bit of money saved is welcome!!

Thanks also for your good wishes. I'll arrive at OKW 5 weeks from today. Can't wait!

All take coupons. As to Goodings, they used to be reasonable, but, as the area grew so did their prices. Someone has to pay for the carpeting on the floor. :( They are approx. 50% higher on most items than Publix or Wal*Mart. Publix tends to be 10-20% higher than Wal*Mart. I wish we had a Super Wal*Mart here with the prices they have there. :)

We found in Feb that dry grocery items were very similarily priced at Publix and SWM, but the deli items at SWM were cheaper, however, when it comes to Deli lunchmeats and salads, you must apply the old saying "you get what you pay for". After looking at the offerings in the SWM deli, we opted to stock up on deli items at Publix, and didn't go back to SWM because the few cents you save aren't worth the hassles of driving on a torn up 192. Thats my 2 cents worth. T

We shopped at SuperWalmart last year before checking in at BWV. We don't have these in NJ. To say I was completely overwhelmed would be undersetimating how crazy that place was. It was not fun to start a vacation waiting in line after line at the grocery store. When we got to BWV, even the employees said we were crazy to go there! I would reccommend Publix for a less stressful experience and, if you want some really good prepared foods, go to Goodings. Remember, you're on vacation, so keep it simple!
