Grocery delivery on QSDP?

Hi all

We will have the QSDP. Would it be redundant to order a few groceries (like water, crackers, granola bars, etc) from Garden Grocer? I was thinking it might be nice to have water bottles and gatorade in addition to the refillable mugs. I would also order some liquid soap and some paper towels to wash the refillable mugs.

Has anyone been on the dining plan and ordered extras? Or am I crazy (which is a distinct possibility!). :)

Oh my gosh, we leave in 9 days!!! yay!

In terms of cleaning the mugs, they have mug cleaning stations at the resort food courts.

That said, I don't think you're being redundant at all. You may very well want beverages cold in the room, without having to walk to the food court every time you want something cold to drink. You may want milk or juice for the kids. It is still useful to have breakfast items in the room, instead of using your credits for breakfast.

Still, you're not going to need a ton of extra food. I wouldn't worry too much about extra snacks and desserts. The QSDP will take care of your sweet tooth for the most part.

I would order water and I also order Pepsi because Disney sells only coke products. Being a Pepsi addict I do require a fix at least once a day. Since they cut one snack from the QSDP it would not be unreasonable to order a few breakfast items or even some fresh fruits.

I have seen folks fill the refillable mugs and then gotten on a bus to a park. I just find a bottle to be a better fit. Bottles do not spill when carried in a bag. I think Disney decided to include the refillable mug in the dining plans because they realize that people really do not spend that much time at the resorts and most people did not find the $15.00 per mug to be a cost effective choice.

However, if you eat at the resort counter service you get a drink with your meal, by using your resort mug you can grab a bottled drink and stash it for later.

I had forgotten about those cleaning stations. Thanks for reminding me!

The price quote I received for a case of water, a case of Gatorade, cheez- its, pop tarts, a roll of paper towels and a small bottle of soap was $57 delivered! Wow! I'm not sure if it's worth it! It's still cheaper than renting a car, but.......

I love your idea of using our mug and stashing the bottle of pop for later! Fantastic idea! I think this may be what we do!

We brought mugs to the park once. Never again! Guess who will wind up carrying them when they are empty? Me!

Are you flying? And if you are flying do you get any free checked bags. If you do then a suitcase will hold the stuff you are wanting to buy. I will pack a suitcase with a 6 pack of water, a brita pitcher to refill the water bottles, lol, 6 small plastic bottles of apple juice, crackers, granola bars and a box of cereal. I premoisten about 10 paper towels in dishwashing soap and place them in a ziplock and they are good to go for about a week. I like to wash my mugs not just rinse them out. I also bring the cheap plastic bowls from walmart $1.00 for a 4 pack and a pack of sppons from the dollar store.
I purchase milk at the resort store for the cereal. They also sell shelf stable milk at most grocery stores in individual serving sizes but the half gallon at the resort is more cost effective. To prevent anything from braking or spilling I place all liquids in ziplocks and place most food in tupperware or similiar containers. I then have a suitcase to bring stuff back in and I can opt to check something that I used as a carryon for the return trip--with ME I like to have bathing suits, sunscreen, etc with me so I do a carryon.

We haven't gone to WDW in the last 7 or 8 years without a DDP but we still make a stop off to pick up some food items. Over the years we have slimmed down our choices since we were throwing away (or giving away) alot of stuff when we checked out.

We do still pick up a case of bottled water, breakfast cereal, milk, fresh fruit, bread/bagels, peanut butter, and a few snack items.

Last year as we were leaving POP we gave a family who had just checked in our stock of bottled beverages we had leftover (all unopened). They were from Brazil and were very thankful. When we have bottled waters leftover will usually give them to one of the workers at the rental car return area.

As PP mentioned you can pack items in your suitcases. Personally I wouldn't do bottled waters because I would worry it would break. Also, I've heard that peanut butter is hard for them to scan at the airport so I don't pack that.

Remember, you can buy stuff like that in the hotel sundry shop as well. Yes, it's very over priced. But may be cheaper than a small Garden Grocer order or renting a car.
I'd pack the Cheez-Its and Poptarts in your suit case as they are small and light. You can buy a case of water at the sundry shop....

Or.... My recommendation -- There are Britta refillable water bottles, with filters built into the cap. Pack a couple of those bottles. Fill them every night, stick them in your fridge, and you have cold bottled water for the next day.

I have travelled with 6 packs of water for years and have always placed the bottles in zip lock bags. I have never had one break or spill. I am sure the first time I think about getting away without placing them in a ziplock that will be the end of my good luck, lol. Peanut butter does not scan well, but that just means they will open the suitcase to do a check. I don't care about that but I also pack all food in a separate bag form my clothes for that reason.

Ok, what I'm planning on doing is carrying on a tote bag that I will use for when we go to the waterparks and pack pop tarts, fruit snacks and cookies in it. I will also pack our bathing suits in it so we can swim right after we check-in. I'm folding paper towels flat in a suitcase along with some fabric sheets and some laundry detergent packs (in a rubbermaid container). When getting CS meals, we will use our mugs then save our bottled drinks for later.

Thanks for all the ideas, guys! The thought of paying an obscene amount of money for grocery delivery was not appealing at all. The people on the DIS are the best!

I see that you are doing a split stay at BC. Keep in mind that there is a Hess station across the street from BW. We now visit there every trip and their prices are a bit higher than a big grocery store but WAY cheaper than the resort store.

OP here,

I ordered the water from WalMart. I figure if I don't receive it, I'm only out $5 and if I do receive it, then I have a case of water for $5! Woo hoo!

Thank you so much! :)

Same here! We gave away water and snacks when we checked out on our last trip..so i know next time we have the ddp to not order too much stuff from garden grocer next time.:thumbsup2

we order from garden grocer water as we drink a lot of it. and then you get a drink with each meal as well but we need the extra and the first year we had QS ining we ordered snacks and juise and ended up had so much on the dining plan brought it home with us. so depends on your family and there is gift shpe in each resort with food is higher than at home but is there
