Anyone have any GOOD ones? How do you keep the corn moist? I usually grill frozen corn which is EASY but this time I'm doing the husked corn, and the last time I tried it wasn't that good...
I grill fresh corn all the time & it turns out great & so sweet!
I shuck the corn & then brush it with olive oil & place it directly on the grill & grill & turn it every few minutes until it starts charring.
It turns out so fresh & sweet, I don't even use butter or salt on it, cause it doesn't need it.
We just started grilling corn on the cob, and really enjoyed it!
To keep it moist, peel the husks down (but don't remove them!), remove the silk, then smear butter over the kernels and salt, if you like. Replace the husks and wrap the corn in aluminum foil. Grill about 30 minutes.
You can also skip the aluminum foil and instead soak the corn in water for at least 20 minutes. (Secure the husks around the corn with string first). Then, toss them on the grill.
allrecipes.com has quite a few grilled corn recipes that sound good, too, especially if you want to try different butters or seasonings.
We get the silt off. We peel the outer layer of husks off, but leave most of them on.
Then we soak it for a couple of hours in cold water, with about 1 tablespoon of salt and 1/4 cup of sugar in it. When we are ready to grill it, we sort of "squeeze" the excess water out of the corn.
We toss it onto a medium grill (If you have a weber gas grill - we do a MOM)for about 30-40 minutes, rotating every 10 to 15 minutes.
Sounds yummy... corn up here won't be ready for another month at least.
We've tried it several ways but I usually just melt butter, pinch of sugar and some seasoned salt into that and brush on the corn and reapply while grilling. It is the easiest and my family loves it.
Last time I was at the market they had corn 3 ears for $1. Someone told me it was now 2 for $1. Dang. Drought and gas prices effect everything, huh?!
I usually remove the husks and wrap in a double layer of foil with about 2 tbs of water inside. Cook for about 25 minutes, turning every 3 -4 minutes or so. I add the butter, salt and pepper after.
I may do it today with some butter, salt and horseradish...sounds yucky but its so good!
We also grill our corn with a piece of bacon wrapped around it. Remove husks, wrap bacon around corn, wrap in aluminum foil, grill until bacon is done. Very good.
Wow! I just paid $1 for 2 ears!! My grocery stores may be cheaper though. I haven't looked there. I only buy my con at the farmer's market because I know it was fresh this a.m. and that it comes from Maple Lane Farms. The man that has MLF is originally from NJ and always has good produce.
12 ears for $2. is a steal! I think most of our cost is from the drought and because the market buys from Bob and then resells so they have to make some $$ too.
I also bought some good looking okra too. I love fied okra and corn together. yum!
We grill it all the time in the summer. We don't shuck, husk or anything. We soak the corn in water for about an hour or so. Then we grill, with husks on, for about 45 minutes. After it's done we peel and then slather in salt and butter. YUMMY!!!!
....I always par-boil mine for about 15 minutes. The corn absorbs the water so it stays moist when you grill it.....I learned this from Pete the Produce Guy (on NBC) when I met him at Pathmark.....
all the above sound so good!
I grilled corn on the cob a few days ago. It was the kind that was already peeled. (I didn't buy it)
Anyway, I had picked up a hickory smoker bag (made of foil) for a buck or so at kmart a while back and i wanted to use it so I just rinsed the corn and placed them in the foil bag on the grill.
about 40 minutes on low and they were perfect....i didn't add butter, water or anything, before or after.
I also had 4 small heads of brocolli washed and trimmed, sprinkled with oil and pepper in a homemade foil pouch on the grill...tastes so good that way.
served it with watermelon and it was a meal (DH not home so it was ok for us girls)
I did a combination of some of the recipes and HOPEFULLY it comes out good. I put on the sweet frozen ones too, JUST IN CASE!!! My son loves those things!!
