Great unknown tips or secrets!

The Group we were sitting with told us NOT to let DCL take our bags when leaving the ship. Last time theirs got lost! We left them in our room and wheeled them off the ship the next day. Not lines or looking for luggage!

What about breakfast? Did you have to take your bags with you? or did you leave them in the room??
What time do you HAVE to be out of your room?

Just knowing about the DIS board is a HUGE helper!

Bring Pirate gear!

You can make a quick plate of food at breakfast and take it with you if you don't have time for the sit down meal. This works well for bagels, etc when you need to be somewhere onboard before an excursion. We have done this often as you are usually sitting around for about 30 minutes and thinking "man I should have gotten something to eat."

Remembered one other thing. At your 1st meal they offer an upgraded "wine service" for an extra cost. If you like to order a bottle of wine at dinner normally, this is actually a pretty decent deal. It's much cheaper than if you buy a bottle each night. And you can take the bottle with you if you have only a glass. I do not recall the price but they have or had 2 different rates depending on the quality of wine you drink. Of course if you will only have 1 bottle of wine the entire time, then this is not for you.

Buy pirate night items at the Dollar Tree before your cruise to save money. Take a new pillowcase and permanent markers to Guest Services on the first day of your cruise - it will be delivered to your room on the last day autographed by the characters. It was my granddaughter's favorite souvenir. Take a pair of black dress slacks and several dressy blouses/tops for dinner to save packing space. Take fewer shoes! Take suction cup hooks for hanging bathing suits to dry in the bathroom. Do your tips the day before (you KNOW how great your servers will be after just one encounter! They only get better, so plan accordingly!) Book your next cruise early - the line is long on the last day. Take a styrofoam cup from the drink stand to the ice cream dispenser at Goofy's Galley. The cups there are WAY to small! And the styrofoam keeps the ice cream cold. Watch the shopping and disembarkation videos on your tv rather than tie up precious "cruisin' time" by going to the theatre. Don't miss Disney Dreams! Be sure to arrive early to Golden Mickeys and take the midship or aft elevators to it. If you take the forward elevators, you'll miss the "red carpet". Go to Shutters at an "off" time such as early morning. In the evening it is very crowded. The Dolphin Encounter in Nassau is a great deal of fun for all ages. ENJOY YOUR CRUISE!

I have never heard the styrofoam cup tip and sure could have used that during the MF cruise, will be for sure trying this next month, thanks

I have a new one that can be used for any vacation. I got this idea when I was planning our first trip 7 years ago and have not seen it around for a long time but it is one of my favorites. Before you go on your trip go to the perfume counter at the store and find a new fragrance that makes you feel and smell wonderful. DO NOT use that perfume until the day you leave for your trip and use it only while you are away. When you get home switch back to what you usually use and then when you need a pick me up use your vacation fragrance. It really works. It has been 7 years but when I put that fragrance on I am right back in the bathroom of the cabins at Fort Wilderness. When I come downstairs my kids all say "you have your Walt Disney perfume on". Something about our sence of smell being closely linked with memory.

I LOVE THIS IDEA, THANKS

i bring an extra blanket from the room to the movie theatre with me. I get cold real easy and the movie theatre is really cold. We bring sausages cut into tiny pieces from the breakfast buffet to castaway cay with us to feed the fish. For some reason, the fish love to eat it. They come right up to you. Check out the game pavillion at castaway cay. They have a couple of ping pong tables, mini golf (just one hole), basketball, chess, and checkers. The kids loved it. There are chocolate chip cookies by the wraps and paninis.

Is the food on the island included or extra?

We went on the MAGIC through the Panama Canal May 10-25, 2008 Florida to California. LOVED IT!

The thing I wish I had known was that the heat would make me sweat a lot more than I expected. I am also dealing with hot flashes. I drank a lot of water but did not replentish electrolytes. I was tired, lightheaded, unsteady and slow so felt like I missed a lot that I would have enjoyed.

From now on, whenever I cruise, I will take the little packets of electrolyte stuff you can pour into a water bottle. REPLENISH is one brand. GATORADE is supposed to make it but I have not found it in stores yet. I would take several boxes of that and maybe some of the vitamin powder to add to water--PROPEL, etc. And then I will drink them all day instead of plain water. I am doing that now and feel so much better than normal, it will be a routine for me!

Water replentishes the fluids you lose but does not maintain the pH balance. The electrolyte waters get the electrolytes too. Also, I would eat more bananas.

Also, I retained water. I wore Teva sandals so could adjust the straps as needed. Some days my rings would not fit. I did not buy a bracelet in Cabo San Lucas that I wanted as it was tight. Three days later in Los Angeles it would have fit.

The electrolyte drinks might have prevented some of that, but loose shoes, larger rings, loose clothing are all good ideas anyway.

AND--if you see it and love it, GET IT! :rotfl:

Air fresheners can do this too. The solid cone shaped one, I forget the brand, that has the plastic lid you pull up for more scent and push down and twist shut to close. Choose a different fragrance for the trip and that becomes special.

We have never had a problem with our luggage in 7 cruises with Disney. We had trouble finding our luggage with RCCL. That was a zoo.

We linger at the breakfast table and meander off the ship as we so desperately do not want to leave. When we get to the luggage claim room, our suitcases are some of the very few left and we walk right through customs. We never book a tight connection to fly home as it is not worth the anxiety of trying to rush to make it.

Another tip, my husband developed diabetes several years ago, so when we go to any beach or pool he must wear water shoes to protect his feet. I found that they are great for everyone. You can wear them on the beach, for swimming, etc., and never have to take them off. You don't have to worry about the little ones running around bare foot. Before we get back on the ship we take them off and wash them out (they all have a removeable lining), so that we don't carry sand back to our room.

I found out about this the hard way. I did not really like the look or feel of water shoes on our last cruise in 2000. We were at port in Venezuela and went to the beach. Lo and behold, the "ocean floor" had a LOT of sea urchins. I tried very hard to avoid them, but managed to step smack down on one. It hurt! There were people (not vacationers) on the beach offering to "surgically" remove them. I was a bit leary of that and did not do it. I still have sea urchin fragments in my foot that off and on will hurt. The surgeon does not really want to cut into my foot because of the location. So, to make a long story short, when on a beach, WEAR SHOES!

To ALL who want to subsribe to this or any thread.

Rather than creating a post just to subscribe to a thread there's a much easier way and probably better for the system. While reading a thread that you like scroll to the top of the thread and you'll notice a menu option called "THREAD TOOLS". Click that then a drop down menu will appear. Click "SUBSCRIBE TO THIS THREAD". Done! Wasn't that easy? Hope this helps.

Wow! I just learned something today!

I think I had never noticed it because I often don't sign in when viewing this site. I had looked at the thread menus w/o being signed in and never saw the subscribe option. Now that I knew to look when signed in it's right there!

We just let mousekeeping know that we wanted to leave our bags in the room. We went to breakfast and then took our bags from the room. No big deal at all. We also left a little extra tip because it was compeletly hassle free. I think we had breakfast at 815 0r 830. So we probably left around 9 or 930.

We were told that the sun can penetrate white shirts when they are WET and cause a sun burn so we snorkel in black or navy blue.

Jan :earsgirl:

You can buy rash guards in surf shops here in CA or online - they are shirts made to be worn in the water and some are even infused with SPF. We never go in the sun or water without them. They come in long and short sleeve.:thumbsup2

We like to get a dozen cookies on the last night, put them in a zip lock and share them with the kids the next day after we have gotten off the ship. Kind of brings back the memories and good times with a treat.
