I think the odds are that you and yours will have a very good dining experience. Most folks do ... admittedly, some don't, but that would be true most anywhere.

FWIW, our first cruise was on the Magic - years ago - and found the Wonder's food significantly better.

All reviews, good 'uns and bad 'uns, reflect the subjectivity of the writer. Sometimes meals are gross by any standards, true. You won't know until you take that first bite, and everyone's palates are different. If you were to listen to my DW's opinions, you'd never ever touch seafood of any type because it's "awful." Well, my mouth tells me better.

Go for it, and enjoy!

My husband and I are self-proclaimed foodies. And after our experience last year I would say the food is touch and go. The diner in the dining rooms didn't impress. We never had anything inedible, just nothing inspired. (mass market)

Palo was excellent - but I will admit I couldn't decide between two dishes and was brought both. The one the waitress suggested was far superior. My husbands was also wonderful as was the dessert.

Cookies BBQ on castaway cay is also another highlight. The ribs are cooked to just the right point where the meat just slides off the bone. For some reason the cafe on the adult beach is not as good. (i believe someone said it's because there is no grill there and all the food must be brought from the other location).

the breakfast in tritons is considerably better than the buffet. (everything cooked to order - no powdered eggs)

so - my conclusion is that if you know where to eat and ask the servers what's best you'll be fine. (even enjoy it!)

The egg dilemma can be circumvented by going with a freshly made omelet.

I think there's more inconsistency among desserts than any other item. It seems that the Disney chefs tend to struggle with cakes. Desserts often look better than they actually are, but the creme brulee cheesecake is a big favorite.

Even though the menus have chef's suggestions, go with what your servers recommend. Ours were spot on, and I was amazed at how quickly they discerned our likes and dislikes and were able to steer us in the right direction. They were real pros.

Finally, I don't hear many complaints about the wraps, paninis, fresh fruit, and suchlike at Goofy's Galley. It makes for a good fallback plan.

I'm on the PC Repo cruise right now... Food is ok.. nothing to write home about generally... The new Golden Mickey's menu has been the best - the lamb just melted in your mouth. I had the mixed grill in PC and it was a bit overdone.

Palo brunch however was FANTASTIC!!!

I will agree that Goofy's Galley might just be the best food on the ship!!

The Pirate night dessert buffet LOOKED fabulous - but did not taste very good. Cakes were dry and pretty tasteless.

So overall , not what you would expect having dined at all the great restaurants at Disney World.

My in-laws are all about the food on the cruise and if it is not up to par on the Wonder it will be a major disappointment.

Sad to read all of the reviews. I hope those of you who experienced the let down in the food did tell those on the DCL that you were disappointed.

We just got off the Wonder on the 15th and all I can say is the food was wonderful, from the fresh fruit to the wraps to the pizza to the dinners and lunches and desserts. And the BBQ.. all was WONDERful and no on in our family of 4 was unhappy with it. Everyone loved what they had, and enjoyed every meal. We are super picky and like organic and fresh foods, even though there are no organics everything seemed very fresh.
Go with a good attitude!!

I too was on the Wonder last week and found the food to be hit or miss for my tastes. I'm a foodie and I like things flavorful, though. I agree it had a mass market feel to it. It wasn't as good as my experience on other cruise lines but we expected that so there was no disappointment.

I wouldn't recommend the eggs benedict at Tritons. Golf balls, sadly. I got the made-to-order omelette off the buffet one morning and it was fab. I ordered it veggie & cheese and it had jalapenos, yum! The next time I tried it they didn't add jalapenos and it was dull.

Cookies BBQ was very good. Filet mignon dinner was great. Some of the fish dinners were good. Pinoc. pizza was inedible to us. Tortilla soup was not good (room service). Buffets were pretty good. Poolside junk food (burgers, tacos, etc.) not so good. I didn't try the wraps or paninis. Next time. I'm not a sweets-lover but I can't think of a dessert I really loved.

Palo was a disappointment to me. Can't say I loved anything except DH's steak. Oh, the tuna appetizer was really good, too. My grouper w/risotto was very ho-hum.

I'm not one to send things back. It's just a meal and I don't expect to love them all. Plus I always ask the waiters for their recommendations first, so I feel like I probably already got the most uniformly popular item. No big deal if I don't love it. More room for the next meal! It certainly wasn't worth negative comments on the comment card to me. At worst the food was just okay or bland, except the junk food which is always iffy.

Ahh, believe me, you'll be fine. Don't let the whining get you down. Food is subjective. NCL had bad food. DCL certainly, by no means, is BAD. Some things are amazing.

Having just returned from the 3 day WONDER cruise (May15-18), I find it rather strange that folks have so many bad comments about the food. I have eaten in renowned restaurants in Europe and Australia, and have found the food on the WONDER during my cruise comparable if not even better. Differerent tastes for different folks.........but my family of six was more than satisfied!!!!

Some called us whiners, because we demanded better food for the costly price of a Disney Cruise. I don't think so - I have been on 2 previous Disney cruises and have been served MUCH better food than on my recent Wonder Cruise - May 1-4, 2008. I also frequent Disney World and greatly enjoy their restaurants, especially LeCellier, Boma, Narcosees, Teppanyaki, Kona Cafe etc.and consider the food at these establishments to be excellent.

Let's just put it this way, the desserts were so tastless (although very eye appealing) that I ordered a Mickey Bar, as a second choice dessert!!

That's just a funny thing about Disney desserts - eye candy, but can be hit or miss. It seems that cakes give the chefs problems, and that extends to land-based restaurants, too.

I commented to DH that the food seems to be SO MUCH BETTER than it has been in the past. Everything I had was great. My Filet was perfect, the Grouper was delicious, and I'm drawing a blank to my other meals. I thought it had made vast improvements since '00. I guess it's a matter of opinion. I sorrowfully watched the woman at the table across from me get a meal w/ baked potato every night. BORING~ She must've gotten the steak or chicken. On the first night, her son-in-law got the escargot and he asked her if she wanted to try it. She turned her nose up and shook her head no. I yelled over "Try it." and she just smiled. I'm all about trying new things and that's what I love about the cruise. I thought the food was great!! I know I had friends go years ago and they complained about the food. They said, "we are meat and potatoes kind of people."

sorry. i call BS on ALL the food on a DCL ship being bad. total BS.

i'm a complete food snob and i hate Disney World. but the food on the cruise was mostly excellent.

i was on the Wonder May18-22.

So, if you hate Disney World, then maybe you haven't been to Disney World lately and that might explain your lack of experience with their food. Overall, I would say that the posts on this thread, indicate that the food service has suffered. But again, you were on a cruise that was 2 weeks later than mine and perhaps they took the food complaints seriously. I really hope so.

Again, this was my experience. I like meat and potatoes alright. But I also enjoy trying lots of different foods. My husband tried the mashed potatoes (yes that's right mashed potatoes!) on top of the scallop dish and he could not eat it. He loves scallops and usually orders anything that has scallops. But not this time. Again, I have never eaten powdered eggs, but I got them as I went down the line at Beach Blanket Buffet. My advice = go directly to the omelette station. You may have to wait about 10 minutes for your omelette, but they are quite delicious. The omelette and granola/dried fruits and nuts is located in the middle of the two buffet lines towards the back of the buffet. Lots of good stuff, that you won't know is there if you just come thru the line.

Oh, I probably got what your husband got. I forgot about the scallops and shrimp. I believe it was the mashed cauliflower not mashed potatoes. I know one of the meals I had had the mashed cauliflower.

We thought the food on the wonder this past August was very good. We'll be doing our first cruise on the Magic in Dec and hoping for the same or better.

Yea, I just checked the Pirates night menu and I got the shrimp and scallops w/ an angel hair pasta which was really good. The other night that I got the scallops it was w/ the mashed cauliflower. The first night I had the filet w/ spinach and mashed potatoes. I think where a lot of the problem arises is the ship gets criticized for putting too much salt on things, so they cook without the salt and things tend to be bland. I add salt to everything, so maybe I don't notice that it's lacking in flavor.

Memory can get hazy in middle age, but I felt the same way in comparing 2000 to 2008.
