Great news!!

How exciting, Congratulations. :cheer2:

I thought there was another Dis'er that wrote a book and was published.

Awesome!

I love writing and reading, and if your book gets published (hopefully, it will!), I will buy it :)

That is wonderful, Susan, congratulations!!! Hope you sell a million, and it is soon on Kindle. I bet you are where Allison gets her prolific writing ability from. :thumbsup2

That is awesome! I want to read it. Please keep updates on this thread so we will know when we can purchase it! :thumbsup2

Wow, I am overwhelmed with all the well wishes. Thank you everyone! I fell into a snag with my conflict, but think I can dig myself out with a little more re-writing. My head is still spinning. Hard to concentrate. Need to come down from my cloud.

I would recommend you to read Stephen King's book (yes, that Stephen King book) On Writing. It explains the writing process, how he got published and all that. It is a great guidebook. I would also recommend Sol Stein's book: Stein on Writing (or somehting like that) Stein's book may be out of print, but you can check it out of the library.. there are very helpful chapters on pace, setting, conflict, paragraphs, etc.

Think of the elements of a story. Google them up if you don't remember them-- I began teaching really basic lessons on this in my 3rd grade class. Don't forget resolution of the conflict as well. You do remember them, you were taught them, but if you don't use the elements every day you will forget.

250 typed words is about one page if that helps.

Thank you.
I was so pumped up that I was up until 3 a.m. and got back up at 10:30 and just finished the book at 4.p.m. today.

I am still a bit confused as to how it works with typed pages compared to book pages. I now have 85 typed pages. Can anyone tell me exactly what I have now?:confused3:laughing: The 250 typed words doesn't really help me.

Now all that is left is to proof read it and print it. And of course send it out. Then wait.:headache:

It all depends on how they chop the book up on the rewrites. 250 typed words in a Word document usually equals one page (or so).

85 is very small for pages. I would go for not quite double--but close. I have a formula somewhere I learning in my Writing Childrens Stories class but I frankly don't feel like digging out my books.

Be prepared for rejection. Part of my coursework was submitting and sending a manuscript for approval to various publishing houses. It was a pretty sad experience-- our class got rejections all around..

That's great! You are very lucky to have someone to critique your work. I'd love that. I have written eight chapters of my book, but have a long way to go and no one to give me feedback. Be very nice to that uncle!

Finally figured out the pages problem. So far I have 101. I doubt that I have nearly enough. Not sure. I'll see if I can add more before I send it out. I have a little bit more pro reading to do. Maybe that is when I add some.

Again thank you everyone for your well wishes, and for listening to me think out loud lately. After all this I would feel like the biggest fool on two feet if this doing go well.

Thanks again everyone. Very tired, but yet my mind is racing. Need to go to sleep for some rest but yet I find myself doing research for my book. It is so exciting. :yay: I am really getting into this.

That IS so exciting!! I would love to write...but don't know I'd have enough patience to write anything longer than short stories!!
And, I'll buy it too.. not because I"m a romance novel fan, but because YOU wrote it :)

Congrats and Good Luck :goodvibes

In publishing agents and editors are concerned with word count, not pages, as pages can by all over the place depending on the font. Google 'word count for romance novel' or some variation of that. My guess is an adult romance novel would run about 100,000 words, but it may be 20k + or - that.

Good luck, don't ever let anyone discourage you from following your dreams!

I'm sorry, but I will no longer be able to converse with you.. I have always wanted to write a book (my birth mother was a writer) and many people have told me that I have the talent.. I've just never gotten serious about it..

Then you go and do THIS !! Hmpf! :snooty:

Seriously - that's great!! Keep up the good work! :goodvibes

Thank you. I was unaware of how it worked. I will have to check. So far I have 25728 words. I just emailed my step uncle to ask. If I find it is only 20k + or - then I will send it out right away and not wait for a reply.

:rotfl2:at first before I finished this post I was like :confused:

then my second thought was- you lucky duck, how do you know what your birth mother did for a living? Wish I knew what mine did. who knows maybe she has the same talent and I got it from her.

Hmmmm. I just googled it. I am in between a novelette and novel. I am a novella. Oh I really hope that is enough. Guess I will wait and see what his response is.

When I finally figured out that I was adopted, further searching revealed that my birth mother was my adoptive mother's younger sister - the woman I considered my "aunt" most of my life..:goodvibes

Sounds like a possible novel idea?????

Since you mentioned that this was a romance, I did a quick search and found that Harlequin romance guidelines are slightly different for each "type" but are generally between 50,000 and 65,000 words. That might help you in terms of length. You might also want to look to see if your book fits into any of their categories.

I'm a writer myself, with twelve published books and a new one coming out in the spring. I write non-fiction, though, mostly about parenting and related topics, and some of my books are only available in Canada (I'm Canadian). I've had some of my books translated into French, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian, which is fun! I have copies in all the different languages and I can't read a word of them!
