Great movie ride

The only time that I have seen the western version was when I specifically asked for it. The had my party stand to the side while a couple of cars were loaded and sent, and then we got to go, I got the feeling that they only did it because someone asked.

Nah, they require a car on the "track" and staff to "drive" the car. You can tell if they are running both scenes by the amount of cars. If there is a car all the way at the front of the stage when you walk into the loading area then the cowboy scene is up. If there is only one car towards the back it is gangsters only.

The western scene is run year-round, but not necessarily from park open to park close. We open with only gangster, and then slowly add more vehicles (the western scene vehicles) on track throughout the morning, and take the off towards the late evening. The loading dock can hold two vehicles, one in the front (western), one in the back (gangster), each with a separate tour guide). So your best bet to make sure the western scene is running is to go late morning/early afternoon.
And all you have to do is just ask a cast member to see the western scene! It may be a little bit of a longer wait, as there might not be a western vehicle for a few rounds (it's a circular track, so eventually the vehicles that do the western scene will come back to the loading dock!), but we will always accommodate what you want to see as long as we are currently running a western vehicle!

The only time they do the western is during the busiest times like Christmas. When they run two trams through at once the first one gets the western and the second one gets the gangster.

not so... We never go during a peak season. Last dec Hollywood studios was as dead as you can get.... As in tower of terror 6+ times in a row and rnrc at least 4 times all before 11am .. We were the only ones in the entire great movie ride and we got the cowboy

Definitely not true! We never go at busy times of the year and get the cowboy version probably 40% of the time. We've seen it in Sept, Oct, Nov, early Dec, Jan, Feb, and early May.

Only relaying what CM told me after I said I was happy we got the western scene on New Years Eve. We go once a week to HS and that has been the only time since shortly after it's opening we have seen it.

I always thought that they run both scenes at the same time during big crowds to speed crowd flow. The Cowboy skit is running while while the gangster scene is running in the room behind it. That way you can put both of those cars in the last movie room together which is a little bit of a bottom neck since you stop in that room and the movie runs a few minutes.

No matter the time of year, both scenes run together. When Western is running, there will be 2 sets of vehicles (so it doesn't matter if it's a busy day or a slow day)

Actually, Western runs year-round (so not just busy times)

I asked a GMR CM friend two days ago about this, the gangster is more common, it apparently has something to do with the ride vehicles and tracks. They start the day running both scenes, but depending on how the cars wind up getting used or not used, both vehicles wind up running gangster by the end of the day. Perhaps when it gets too busy the cars get off sequence so everything goes into gangster? Which is why most of you non peak people are saying you've gotten cowboy a lot.
Anyway, I'm headed to youtube to go watch this supposed awesome fire cowboy scene! :)

Then the CM was wrong. I remember a poster who was insistent and indignant when I disagreed with what a CM told her last year. The CM had said that you can't ride Splash at night! Uh, that's a big "no".

Both vehicles are on one track and go through the same scenes every time. I presume (and have also heard) that fire is expensive--I think that's the reason.

Unless it's an extremely busy time, Western does not start right away. Also, both vehicles can not run Gangster. Once Western is done for the day, the vehicles are gone

Thanks to the boards I finally got to see the western scene. I asked the cm and we were moved to the front vehicle.
