Great movie ride

The only time that I have seen the western version was when I specifically asked for it. The had my party stand to the side while a couple of cars were loaded and sent, and then we got to go, I got the feeling that they only did it because someone asked.

We are DVC owners, AP holders, and frequent visitors, and I'd guess off the top of my head we've ridden GMR 50 times. I just asked my husband, did you know there was cowboy version of the Great Movie Ride? He insists I am making it up and there is no such thing.

We've been there busy times, slow times, mornings, nights, weekends... never once anything but the gangster scene, which I can probably recite at this point.

They were doing the western scene today. We saw it when we went around 10:30 this morning.

We have seen both of the scenes equally throughout the years.

Us too! I always thought they showed both scenes equally. When we were there in early Dec and also in Sept we saw both.:confused3

We always prefer the cowboy scene. Too many times with the gangster scene you get a CM trying too hard to do a Jersey accent and you can't even understand them. With the cowboy scene at least you can always understand the CM.

We have seen the western scene a few times, it is much better as the entire bank lights on fire. Because of that they run it less but we only go during slow times and have seen them run it from time to time even during slow season

We have always seen the gangster scene and never saw the cowboy scene until Oct of last year. Nice to have things changed up a little

I also have never seen the western theme, Ill be there around Christmas I hope it is running then.

I would say you have a pretty good shot at seeing it at Christmas time and have a better chance of it running then if you ask to wait for it. We've been on it maybe 30 times and I would say we have gotten the Cowboy scene 4 times. The last time was this past Christmas week but we had it at non crowded times also.

I always thought that they run both scenes at the same time during big crowds to speed crowd flow. The Cowboy skit is running while while the gangster scene is running in the room behind it. That way you can put both of those cars in the last movie room together which is a little bit of a bottom neck since you stop in that room and the movie runs a few minutes.

That's been our experience as well! I think that I've seen the western version maybe 4 times...been going on this twice a year, at least, every year since '99!! Some trips we do it more than once just to see if we can get the western version!

Rode the GMR 3 times between 12/20/13-12/29/13 and we saw the gangster once and western twice.

Christmas week, of course it would run then. LOL

I haven't seen the western scene since I was a teenager. I'm 38.

I don't know what rhyme or reason they use for running it, but I haven't seen it in years. I miss it.

Pretty surprised by this thread. We have seen both set ups equally. We usually go during the summer.

I was thinking about this the last time I was there about a year ago. When HWS was first built (MGM back then) I used to get Western and Gangster equal levels.

In the past many years I have only had gangster. I thought they stopped doing the western altogether. I know it wasn't a rumor because I had seen it, but it's been a good 10 years so i figured they just stopped.

Looks like I have something new to experience for my next trip. Just when I thought I've seen it all :)

I am a frequent visitor of WDW and had never seen the Western scene...

last year my DD required a time-out, so I sat with her while the rest of the family rode the ride...and my husband (a not so frequent Disney visitor...) says, "did you know there was a cowboy scene with fire"?!?!

I could not believe they saw the Western scene and I hadn't...It was in January the day after the Marathon...

So on our last trip (nov) we asked if the western scene was running, it was, and they were happy to accommodate us.

so nearly a year later...I finally saw the western scene :)

We had the western scene once and were so confused. I had to ask my boyfriend, "This isn't what usually happens, is it?!" Ever since then we always hope to get it but haven't yet.

Thanks for the responses! I'm excited to know at least it exists!! I think I will ask a CM about it and see what I'm told!

We rode it the week of 9/13/13-9/21/13 and we had the western theme . i had no idea they did that and it was a great surprise !

I had asked a cast member one time and was told they would most likely run the western scene mid-day. I imagine that is when the lines are the longest. As someone else mentioned, as you are being loaded, if you see they are loading two sets of cars they will be running the western scene. Cast members are good about allowing you to wait for the next set of cars if you want to see the western scene. I'm not sure if the cast members outside would know if they are running both inside but on our next trip I will be asking.
