Anyone been recently? Is it worth the trip? We are going to Disney in December and thinking about it for this summer. Any opinions on season's pass or places to stay. TIA. :confused3

I will be there in about a week and a half as I have to chaperone a class trip for our eigth graders (final week of school!!!!)

I have not been in a couple of years but did have a good time the last time we were there.

We loved this park. It is much different than any other six flags we've been to. It's a bit smaller and prettier of an amusement park than the one here in Springfield, MA.
We stayed at a campground in the area, not sure if you are interested in camping, but we loved the campground. If you are I'll try to dust off the cobwebs in my mind to see if I remember the name.
I think the park is definitly able to be done in one day. Food was very expensive there and not great. I'd plan on bringing food in. Not sure if it's against the official rules or not, but I saw people doing it and wish we did the same.
Hope this helps. Have fun!

They have season passes on sale that are cost effective if you go at least two days. I was thinking about Lake George as opposed to Agawam. I hear the Agawam park can be a little dicey.

I would definitily choose Lake George over Agawam.
Lake George is a beautiful area.

We are going to lake george at the end of august - i'm thinking my kids will want to go - we've only been to Great Adventure in NJ!

We LOVE Lake George!!!!!

Six Flags is wonderful-- clean and family oriented and doable in a day. That leaves you the rest of your vacation for the lake, the Fort, the outlets, the swimming and boating and restaurants and shops, and the House of Frankenstein.

Lisaross, take a Sunday mornng and go to Bolton Landing. In late August, there's always a craft fair there that's a lot of fun. (Bolton Landing is just a 15 or 20 minute drive north on Rte 9. There's also a great little outside restaurant there with an amazing appetizer--Brie in RAspberry sauce-- that I have for lunch each year.

Also, we always go the week aroung Aug 18th (Disney this year instead.) There's a Fireman's festival at Shephard's Park in town-- the kids can climb aboard old firetrucks and enjoy some jumpers and stuff. There's a little gambling for the adults as well, and nightly concerts in the bandshell. And Thursday nights there are free fireworks in town.

Also, if this is your first trip, think about an hour or so cruise on the Mini Ha Ha or one of the other ships. My son can now pick them out by the sound of each ship's horn. http://www.visitlakegeorge.com/kids/

We are staying at Surfside on the lake - going for 3 nights - Tuesday - Friday the Week of August 25th. I definitly want to do the Tubby Tubes someone else mentioned - and was thinking of the Rodeo as well!

Oops, forgot: Dr. J, you asked about places to stay.

We like Surfside in Lake George. It's not glamorous or high priced, but it's clean and convenient. There's a nice beachfront, and a nice pool. It's an easy walk into town as well. http://www.surfsideonthelake.com/

For an upgrade, consider Marine Village. We've never been there, but friends are trying it this summer and it looks nice.

Both are right in Lake George village; you can park your car once you get back from the outlets and Six Flags, and not move it all week.

Checked out the website and it looks good. Thanks for all off your info everyone and the hotel link Aliceacc.

Lake George is awesome. We've been there 4 times and everyone loves it. Definetly better over Agawam. I think Great Escape is one of the best parks we've been too. They now have a water park too, which I heard was great. There is so much to do there. We usually go for a week and are never bored.

One or two days at the park, it is definatly nicer then the six flags in Mass. Consider adding a side trip to Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame, Howes Caverns or the Landis Arboretum.

YEARS ago (prob 20..wow, I'm that old now?!?!) there was a place called Rydin Hye Dude Ranch near Lake George. Does anyone know if it is still around? I remember going there as a child and would LOVE to take my kids. They had a main house as well as private cabins, horseback riding, a lake with boats, a pool, a rodeo, cook outs and other cheezy 'dude ranch' stuff.

Thank you so much 4ShinyStars....you made my night!!!!

WE may have to plan a mini vacation here!

We go to Lake George 6 flags just about every yr for the day. Stay away from the Cotton Candy. Last bage we bought had ants in it.

Overall a clean park and a fun day. We usually pack a cooler with sandwiches & drinks for Lunch and eat it in the car with the AC running :).

Keep in mind that they charge $10 for parking now, the food is very expensive (more expensive than Disney for even simple things like soda and water), and you can not bring any type of food or beverage through the gates - including water..

Lake George is a pretty area.. Lots to see and do..:)

I had heard the food and parking was expensive. Will have to leave a cooler in the car.
