Google images off the net or wherever of Grease, print them in your best quality...go to Kinkos and have them make posters out of them. We did this in Black/white, then I took Highliter pens and accented parts of the images, total cost OOP for me was $42 and I had a ton of posters( about 30)to cover the walls with. We did a 50's party for my DD's sweet 16 and needed to decorate a whole church basement! I covered the walls in black table roll...from factory card Outlet, they sell rolls in 100 foot sizes. Put the posters over it, streamers, balloon arches....my AWESOME brother hit a local record shop..bought 200 old 45's for about $15, some fishing line and we strung the records thru the line and hung them from the ceiling, taped others all along the wall, put them on the corners of the poster. The MAJOR highlight...same AWESOME brother ( DD's Godfather) hit a few classic car shows last spring/summer...just started talking w/some of the guys who had Chevy convertibles...and one guy with a mint '57 Chevy agreed to drive DD from our house to the church! Talk about her being blown away! The car was mint green, license plate said "mint"...the guy wouldn't take a dime! Luckily we had TONS of White Castles at the party and he did agree to eating some sliders....Sorry to hi-jack..
We cut milkshake shapes out of cardboard and use wrapping paper rolls to make the straws and balloons to make the overflowing "shake"
I went to the hardware store and bought a 4x8' styrofoam insulation board ($7)...painted it like a '57 Chevy convertable...and had the kids sit/ pose behind it like they were driving, took digital pictures and then sent ones to the kids. We found candy cigarettes...remember the ones you puffed on and the powder sugar blows out?Kinda like Sandy saying, "Tell me about it, stud!" Anyway, we had all the guys roll them in their sleeves, had washable markers so they could all make tattoos, had a hula hoop contest...
WalMart sells them for $1 each and they are decent size hoops. A great keepsake we did ...I went to walmart again, bought their $.88 a yard cotton fabric and some cheap plastic dropcloths. I taped the drop cloth along a wall, then taped the fabric over it. I had bright color laundry markers for a "Graffitti wall" and everyone left a message for the birthday girl. I washed the fabric first....then washed it after the party and made pillows for DD's bed out of the fabric as a keepsake. She loved it and her friends loved drawing etc. on the wall all night. You could have a "dress up" part of the night if it is all girls wher they get to go from "sweet Sandy" to ummmm, the "other" Sandy..playing w/make-up, hair etc.
They can decorate neck scarfs or bobby sock w/fabric pens/paint and have those for party souvees...get cheap pink T's from a craft store or anywhere and have them make their own pink ladies matching shirts...get lots of pictures!
Have a blast, it is a fun bash to plan! And Happy Birthday to your DD!
Pam
I know this is for older kids, but some of the ideas are all age.
