Vid card upgrades are of little benefit to photo editing software, EXTRA memory(like at least 4 gigs) will yield the biggest performance benefits for that type of work.

Vid cards help with 3d apps and games.

great ! i can forget the card and get more memory then:thumbsup2

just remember too, that going over 3 gigs is not going to get you much unless you are running a 64 bit machine.

Depending on the computer it might be much cheaper to buy the memory on your own.

+1 on that!

It was like $40 to get 2 gig of memory to add my new unit.

The onboard cards also when you add the extra memory will usually let you allocate more memory to the video portion of the system if you need it for a program.

The onboard video have improved also compared to just a few years ago.

But adding a seperate graphics processing unit and its own memory will free up the main processor and main memory.

Of course it is best to have the best of everything. Like my 8 year old desktop, heheheheheee

yeah the one i am using now is 512mb, 160 gb internal harddrive and about 8 or 9 yrs old...thinking i might notice the difference in the new one even though it's only dual core but has the dedicated card after all(? the non integrated, what ever that is called) I couldn't stand waiting anylonger till i could afford to get a quad core so i went with the one i first saw a yr ago and now at less than 1/2 the price..guess it pays to have to wait:rotfl: ) now if i can actually set up the network the microcenter guy assured me was as "easy as pie" to do:rolleyes1 ...heard that one before, usually right before an extended traumatic scenario that ends with me crazed and ripping my hair out while loudly cursing who ever invented computers:rotfl:
