Grandpa Mohawk takes a fall

Hi everyone,

Well life has taken a sudden interesting twist. While we were in the process of moving over from our offsite Marriott resort to Disney's Boardwalk, I'm afraid my dad took a nasty spill. We had stopped at Mary Queen of the Universe for church and were just getting back into our van. He forgot where he was and backed into our van's ramp just as it was deploying.

I feel horrible because I had been the one to deploy the ramp and all I had time to do was shout his name before he came tumbling down on the pavement.

So 5 paramedics later, a trip to the emergency room and he's wound up with a broken leg. They tell me he's to have surgery tomorrow to probably pin and set the bone. (It's his left femor, upper thigh.)

I'm at a bit of sixes right now because I suddenly had to take over all the caretaker and independence duties. Fortunately I have a van I can drive and the staff at the BWV have been absolutely fabulous to me. I've had them lowering things where I can reach them, and help me lift and move things too heavy for me to handle. Meanwhile I've been shuffling back and forth to the hospital and coordinating with family back home.

I'm not sure what the trip will be like from now on. I have to worry about getting GM the 900 miles home and he'll be living the life of the disabled for a few months. Sorry to say there won't be anymore Grandpa Mohawk chronicles this trip. We're both a bit bummed because we had just been gearing up for our Disneymania portion of the trip. Thursday was to be a combo birthday/Halloween party and we scored a Boardwalk view room for the opening of Food & Wine.

GM is in good spirits though. He's already asking for a fireworks view at the hospital.

If you have any pixie dust to send our way, we could sure use it about now.

I'm so sorry to hear that happened! I will be hoping the surgery and recovery go well for Grandpa Mohawk and that you have an easy go at it yourself. It's nice to hear that BWV CM's are doing their best to help out in the situation.

Lot's of the pixie dust heading your way. pixiedust:

I'm so sorry to hear this...I was looking forward to more Grandpa Mohawk chronicles. I know how much u were looking forward to the BW/food wine opening. Give your dad a big hug from all of us and here is some :wizard: for a fast recovery.

How awful! I'm so sorry to hear about your dad's injuries. Please let your dad know that we're thinking about him and wishing him all the best in the days ahead. And that goes for you too BroganMc. Please keep us posted when you can.

Prayers and Pixie Dust to you both. Our DS had to have surgery to put pins -well plates & screws actually - in a broken arm last year right before Christmas, so I sort of understand how you're feeling. Hope Grandpa Mohawk will be up and around again soon. Bless his heart, I hope he gets his fireworks view!

So sorry to hear your news

Speedy recovery to GM and I hope people will continue to offer you all the assistance you need - please keep us informed :flower3:

Our prayers are with you and him.

Oh no! Sending prayers your way. If you THINK you need to stay longer, do it if you can. (I was in a situation with my elderly parents and we SHOULD have stayed an extra day.) I hope he has a speedy recovery.

So sorry to hear about GM. Your family will be in our prayers. Hoping for a quick recovery.:grouphug:

My prayers go out for you and GM. DM is recovering from a broken shoulder, and it did seem much worse when it first happened, she's scheduled to go home from rehab October, 5th. I pray that things go smoothly as you make your trip home.

My thoughts and prayers (especially prayers) are with you. What a tough break! It sounds like you are handling things like a pro, or at least like a very wonderful daughter. I am sure it will help knowing so many are thinking of you and praying for you.

Take care and tell your father there are lots of us praying for you both.

Deb

Oh no, BroganMc. Life is just plain not fair. I am saying a prayer for you and GM as I type. I will light an extra candle for you and GM at the Shrine when we are there soon. God bless.
P.S. Sure will miss your blog.
