Hi to everyone, have a question, cruising Nov 2018, 7 day cruise, my granddaughter will be 2 months short of 11 years old, will she be able to go to the Edge club if she would like too? Thanks....

Yes, but a grown up will have to go a sign a waiver form first. Then they'll put the sticker on her key card and she's good to go.

Unless it's very rare circumstances like edge all ready has a high number of kids in that age range or there is a disproportionate number of 10 year olds on the cruise. Rare, but I've seen it happen at times.

Thanks for the answer, like most kids she's 10 going on 15, she's a pretty smart kid, maybe she might fit in better with the kids in the Edge club.

Maybe... just remember that while she may be "10 going on 15" there are also kids who are "14 going on 24" who don't always appreciate the younger kids. I'd encourage her to at least give the Oceaneer Lab a try. If allowed to join Edge, she will be able to do both throughout the cruise. Friendships are generally created the first night, so it's important for her to attend the ice-breaker session that night after dinner. At that age, social friendships can make-or-break the experience regardless of which club they attend.

Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks for the reply's, your right when it comes to age. She's a little shy a first, hope she's not intimidated.

The Edge is a lot like middle school. Each cruise is different obviously, but from my DD's experience, it is pretty much like the social dynamic at Middle School - the younger kids may want to fit in, but some are not as socially (or physically) mature as the older kids, and may not get into the little groups that form on the first night. Granted if it a full ship during high season, there are a bunch of kids spanning the ages, but just like all of those "mature" 4th and 5th graders at the Elementary School, many are not ready for the social change that comes with middle school. If your kids are not exposed to the PG 13 content at home, then they may not be ready for the conversations that may arise in the Edge. Similar to those 13-14 year olds who are dealing with getting through 8th grade may not prepare them for the things that the 16 and 17 year olds in the Vibe have going on in their lives. That being said, there are still a lot of structured activities that go on which involve all ages, but remember, Edge is not a check-in facility - they will be able to come and go as they please and some activities take them all over the ship unsupervised.

My son thoroughly enjoyed the Lab at 10 and 11 FYI. It goes all the way through 12, so as long as all the kids her age don't go to the edge she should have fun.

My daughter has been sailing DCL since she was 5. She LOVED the Club and Lab (on all 4 ships) and she does not care for Edge at all (she is 13 now and counting down the minutes until she can go to Vibe). She is a very friendly, kind, nerdy kid and she thought many of the other kids were not really people she was interested in being around. She found them to be typical middle-schoolers with the cliques and attitudes that often go with that age - and that is just not what she is all about. (This is on 2 separate Fantasy cruises, so it was not a one time issue but it was only on the one ship). Luckily she found a friend to hang out with and they spent their time doing family crafts, playing shuffleboard and eating ice cream. You granddaughter may find that she likes the lab better than Edge. I'd keep an open mind about it.
