I'm planning a trip in Aug. this year and would like some information. Are there any renovations to the resort? I've booked a standard room, are there any special requests I should make? What room and what area would you request to stay in? Thanks Canadian Tom.

The resort went through a renovation in 2000. All the rooms were completely re done in new themes. They are, according to building:

Sago Cay - Swan theme with Wind in the Willows characters
Conch Key - Alice in Wonderland theme
Big Pine Key - Alice in Wonderland
Boca Chica - floral theme (no characters that I know of)
Sugar Loaf (which is concierge) - cameo theme with Sleeping Beauty fairies.

There are NO bad views at the GF. For a view of the marina and monorail you want Sago Cay.
For a view of the marina or gardens, Conch Key.
For a view of the main pool or gardens, Boca Chica.
For a view of gardens Big Pine.

I've stayed in Conch and Sago and I prefer the theming in Sago. At first I thought I like Alice theme better, but I like the yellows they used in the swan theme rooms.

All the buildings are fairly close to each other, not cramped, but you can easily and leisurely walk the resort in 10 minutes. If you want to be close to the main building where you get the monorail I think Sago is your choice. If you want to be near the boat launch to MK, then Conch is closest. But really the walking to the main building for the monorail is VERY pleasant. The grounds are beautiful. You can also walk to the Polynesian resort from the GF. This is good if you want to eat at the Polynesian restaurants O'hana or Kona Cafe. I highly recommend BOTH!

Hope this helps you out. Enjoy your trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For a view of the main pool or gardens, Boca Chica.

We stayed at Boca Chica and had a wonderful view of the whole lagoon. We could see MK, the Contemporary, and the Poly.

I believe this building has the most views of the lagoon. All odd numbered rooms are facing the lagoon. All even are facing the main pool or gardens.
