Grand Floridian vs Polynesian

I have stayed at the GF 8 times and Poly and YC once each. I much prefer the GF over the Poly. The YC is my pick over the Poly also. We all have different likes and dislikes and the Poly wasn't my cup of tea.

DW and I felt comfortable at the GF and didn't feel like it was "stuffy" at all. The YC was nice and did have the advantage of being close to MGM and Epcot.

The Poly doesn't have a hot tub. The bathroom is all in the same room. The GF and YC have the shower/tub and stool in one room and the sinks in another. We had the CM from hell when we checked in at the Poly.

Well, I like the Grand Floridian, but the Polynesian is nice too. I must say, though, that the GF is probably my fave. :confused3

My husband and I both LOVED the GF. We walked over to the PR each day, it was a lovely walk. I have no interest in staying at the poly. It seemed like something out of the Brady Bunch Hawaii episode to me. But my husband loved it and wanted to stay there for our next visit....so it's all a matter of taste.

We leave for our next trip this wed and we are staying at POFQ....so you see who wears the Disney pants in our house......lol

Both are beautiful resorts and it will come down to personal taste.
The GF is truly beautiful and really nice.

The Poly just has more theme, and atmosphere IMHO, it really makes you feel like you are some place different when you walk into the GCH. The tiki torches lit at night, the volcano pool, the Tikis everywhere.

Truly, you can't go wrong with either resort, just comes down to which one you like the best.

:goodvibes

I guess Disney achieved it's goal then...to make those staying at the Polynesian feel like they are actually on an island. If this style/theme isn't your cup of tea, then the Poly is not a place to consider. I understand that the Poly comes pretty close to being at a Hawaiian resort. This is what many have said who have been to both Hawaii and the Polynesian Resort.

i would definately have to say that was a wrong place at teh wrong time type thing. I ahve never had CM's be rude to me at the GF, everything has always been clean etc. while we were there there were a TON of teenagers using the hot tub 2-3 nights but they have a right to it as well, so oh well, it was a little too chilly anyway lol. hope you give it another chance someday!

We actually considered it as a backup plan in case we couldn't get into the Poly for the free dining promotion. Maybe a time when it is not traditionally so crowded at Disney World. When we stayed there even the parks were a little dirty which absolutely shocked me as I have said time and time again, that Disney Parks are always so clean it's amazing!

I have not stayed at the Poly (we are staying there in Sept) my only fear is the bathroom situation, however, I am told that since the redo, there are rooms with two sinks and separated, correct???

But, I would like to chime in on the GF, we LOVED it! The staff could not have been sweeter, the mousekeeping excellent (we find that at most resorts) and the rooms and grounds gorgeous. We stayed at Christmas time so it was very magical. My kids loved it and so did DH and I. The view was of the monorail, but that was cool because we had fun trying to pick out which color would be next (something we did at the CR when we stayed in the garden rooms). Our all time favorite is the CR MKView, gotta admit, I would have loved to have gotten in on that for the FD, but alas they did not have it open, so off to the Poly we go!

I'm going to confuse you and agree with most of the others, lol, it's all about what you like as a theme, either victorian or island feel. We have been to O'hana's a couple of times and it's awesome. We have always enjoyed visting the Poly and now we will get the chance to stay!

Have fun!

Perfect Forum for my dilema.

We had stayed at the Polynesian last December and it was great. We had plans to go back again this year, but work is offering good rates for a group trip to the Grand Floridian. So now I am torn. The Polynesian is $329 while I can get the GF for $269 a night. Is it worth it? I still want to stay at the ploynesian, but I think I am just being sentimental. And for that rate. Not sure if I can pass it up.

What do you think?

I agree!! Go for it!

We have stayed at both the Poly and GF and YC. Poly & YC are nice, but GF is awesome and we keep returning to the GF because it's the best. It is absolutely not sterile or stuffy. It's filled with wicker and mixy matchy patterned fabrics and cozy fluffy furniture. Very charming and great service.

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney :)

Love them both. The Polynesian has better transportation and three beaches so any room is close to a beach. GF has more restaurants but we find it fun to go to dinner via boat, path or monorail so no worries.

Lori, you received incorrect info on the baths at the Polynesian. The basic configuration did not change in the bathrooms....just decor, shower curtains, some cubbies added, etc.. But it is a more sanitary arrangement than a split bath.

They're both great. I prefer the Grand Floridian because I like that theme better.

One reason I really prefer GF is that I can get a room that doesn't require me to walk in and out of buildings to get to it. But that's me. I don't think most people care about that.

I would snag a room at the GF for $269 in a heartbeat. I wish my work would offer me a good rate there =)
