Grand Canyon trip

First time trip to the Grand Canyon, hoping for input on this itinerary

Flying in to Phoenix, renting a car & leaving for GC the next day
Stopping in Sedona (for a couple hours)
Continue on to Grand Canyon
Stay at a GC lodge, for 3 nights

What experiences in the national park are not to be missed? We’ll be at the south rim.

We’ll hit Flagstaff on the way back.

You could spend a day visiting the three national monuments near Flagstaff. There's also Montezuma's Castle between Flagstaff and Phoenix.
