Grand Californian Villas to be announced 9/18!

It seems that there will be 50 2-bedroom lock-off units. So that could work out to 50 1 BR plus 50 studios, etc. Lots of combinations, but still...a small number overall. Competition will be fierce!

That's approximately 750,000 points for sale Based on average points requirements. I would not be suprised if they sell within 6 months.

Yeah, Hands off my points 3Disneykids! I'm buying first!

:rotfl2: No worries, dwelty--I just purchased an add-on at AKV so I am all tapped out!

I do hope, though, that non-owners will at least get a shot to stay there once in a while....pretty please? :flower3:

Fierce in buying points there or actually booking rooms at 7months?

Booking window is what I was referring to. But yeah, I think with such a small number of points available, it will sell out quickly. However, my guide believes (and I agree) that this is just the beginning...this is just to get a DVC out there...bigger things to come.

Bob Iger just mentioned the Disney Vacation Club without mentioning GCH. I do not think he will say anything about it and let DVC make the announcement.

I'll fight you for them! I think these are going to sell out pretty darn quickly- how long do you think they will take to sell out- maybe 3 months at the max?

Here is the article from the OC Register:

ANAHEIM – Disney is planning to expand the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, its high-end lodge in the Disneyland Resort, by adding about 250 units, including the first vacation-ownership villas, the company is expected to announce today.

The expanded hotel would grow by 2.5 acres, stretching south of the hotel that opened in 2001 alongside Downtown Disney and Disney's California Adventure theme park. The Grand Californian already has 745 rooms.

The first Disney Vacation Club units on the West Coast – 50 two-bedroom-equivalent villas – would be part of the new area. The club is a vacation-ownership program that includes other Disney locations and associated members.

"This expansion underscores our commitment to growing and investing in both the Disneyland Resort and the Anaheim Resort Area," said Ed Grier, Disneyland Resort president, in a prepared statement.

On another, somewhat related note.... Bob Iger just mentioned that they will build a "Cars Land" in California Adventure on the Goldman Sachs webcast. With the tremendous investment they are planning for this park, in a few years, these DVC units may overlook one of the best Disney parks anywhere!

So does this mean that there will be no 3 bedroom grand villas?

This is correct, and not suprising since the other 2 small DVC resorts (VWL and BCV) have no Grand Villas either.

How small are the VWL and BCV. They are bigger than 50 2 bdrm units right?

Well, since Disney Vacation Developement just pulled a permit to remodel the DVC models at Disneyland I think that they plan on sales lasting at least 6 months. I do not think that they would invest in this for anything less.

How small are the VWL and BCV. They are bigger than 50 2 bdrm units right?

VWL 181 total units (If studios are split from 1 BR) BCV 282 Total units (If studios are split from 1 bedrooms)

so, using the same formula, the GCH VIllas will have 102 total units (Studio & 1 BR).

Any thoughts on which units will get the premium resort view locations? The 200 hotel rooms or the 50 GVC villas or a combination of both?

Do you think that since these will sell out quickly that we should call our guides NOW and let them know that we are interested or wait until selling actually begins? I'm SO excited, I'm hoping for GCV for Christmas and my birthday this year!

Okay so how hard will it be to get a room at the 9 month mark if there are only 101 rooms? also if done in 2009 when will they start to sell them about?

Wonder if the other 2 hotels...DLR and PP will continue with DCV pts as they do now? only having a higher pt value since they will still not be DVC.

These pts are not only expensive but addicting. At least there is one good thing, if you purchase pts you cant use you can always sell or just rent out. We are heading to having 600 pts total and that will give us room to play at many places and Disney.

the only thing that will stink is the dues :scared1: Wouldnt it be great if we did not have them or they would stay the same at the time of purchase like a fixed rate over the course of there life time :thumbsup2

One can only dream :rotfl2:

So than it is time to start saving for more pts. We are financing the ones we have know and are paying them off at a faster pace but know that extra $$$ will have to be put aside for more pts. Hmmmm could have some real fun with 600 pts:love:

One thing that should be noted is that 2-5 days might be a normal stay at the resort. Maybe out of town visitors going Sunday-Thursday while more locals going Friday to Sunday. 3-4 full days at the DLR is a normal stay with the two parks.

This could effectively double the amount of rooms available each week, putting it in the same class as VWL.

Using myself as an example I'll be staying just offsite Friday, October 26th to Sunday, October 28th as I'm local, and have an AP. We are making it a mini-vacation combined with DCA Halloween party Friday night. We might have used points that weekend instead if the DVC's were available and priced around 26 points per night for a studio.

If and when a 3rd park were to open I'd expect more DVC units to be built.
