Grand Californian Villas to be announced 9/18!

It seems like a small area plus with only being 5 stories it seems like it's going to be a small number of rooms, does anyone think they will be converting existing rooms in the existing hotel? (like AKV)

I may be late to the game....so if this is common knowledge I'm sorry.

No one has heard anything about converting existing hotel rooms, so I would speculate that they're not doing that.

The new rumor is the GC DVC addition will have 250 rooms. Dwelty (a disboard member) informed us that the GC DVC addition footprint is about the same size as the BCV (and the BCV has 208 rooms), so the possibility of 200 or more rooms at the GCV looks likely.

Hopefully we'll learn more tomorrow!:thumbsup2

I really like this new word you have invented -- combining "hoping" with "shopping" (presumably for more points) into "shoping"!

Why thank you! I regularly invent new words. Never play Scrabble with me. :p

Well guess I have something to do at 9am :thumbsup2

I would not be surprised by a Disney Vacation Club announcement about California today. After all, Al Lutz has good sources.

But I would be very, very surprised if the announcement comes from Bob Iger at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference. That's not the purpose of an investment company's question-and-answer session.

DVC resort announcements are typically made in press releases. It's also possible that Jim Lewis and/or Ed Grier would make a live announcement to invited media representatives or at an appropriate industry conference.

Of course, I could be wrong.

I have a question. We were originally thinking of purchasing at GCV. However when dh and I discussed it we were concerned because they can only build up and not out and it will feel more like a condo than the resort feel you get in WDW. What is your opinion on that?

When we were at DLR this weekend, we tried to see as much as we could of the area of DVC construction. It's really quite a large area. It appears that the villas will connect to the GC, as they have removed protruding eaves on the main building for connecting purposes, one would suppose. And the construction area is larger than the wedding garden - it extends nearly to the edge of California Adventure. Do we think there may be a separate pool, as there is at resorts at WDW? Or is the extra space for staging the construction?

Tom Staggs, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Spoke yesterday at the Merryl Lynch conference and mentioned that Disney plans on spending alot of money to improve California Adventure, and there has been no press release about that. You may be right however that they let Disney Vacation Developement make the announcement.

You will not see anything, just Audio, I just hear people milling around. Since The Email just went out to the guides, He may not say anyting about it.

They are starting, my guess is that they won't say anything about it either. Disney is a much larger company then just DVC. :)

Only 52 DVC villas ??? :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

It seems that there will be 50 2-bedroom lock-off units. So that could work out to 50 1 BR plus 50 studios, etc. Lots of combinations, but still...a small number overall. Competition will be fierce!
